When I was a kid, our garden was always a mess, so there was a ton of junk collecting standing water. I always found mosquito larva kind of mesmerising to watch at that young age, I didn't actually know what they were back then. I'd give the containers they were inhabiting a slight kick and watch them all dart down to the bottom, then watch them rise back up with that weird wiggle they do to swim. Ah, you know things are rough when you think back fondly to watching larvae swim about. Childhood wonderment, there's nothing quite like it.
I hope all's well with you. I like flicking the top of the jar and watching the larvae "fly" down, then wriggle back up. Thanks.
Here is the update: th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html ---- Did you see these as a kid? I certainly never had.
I absolutely love these kinds of random things popping up in my recommended feed heh, its so cool and honestly so genuine to just see some dude nerd out about the difference between a fungus gnat and a mosquito, and I learn something along the way to!
Thank you. I hope to keep my videos random and low budget.
Once again danke schön for watching. Here is the update: th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html

@pixelatra_ Here is the second video. Lemme know if you have any questions. Have a great day. th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html
Wonderful video! So fascinating that halteres would be evolutionary advantageous enough to appear independently! Wonderful example of convergent evolution!
Indeed! Such a wonderful story!!!
Here is the follow-up video. th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html I am super interested in the breathing apparata now.
I learned something today. Halteres.
Hey, here is the update. The halteres are cool. I am now super interested in their breathing apparata!

my pleasure! Thanks for watching.
This is so cool, Mo!
Thank you, Melodie!
Melodie, Here is video 3. I go into the breathing systems, the pupae, and etymology,. Lemme know if there is something you wanna explore deeper. th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html
Thanks! I don't have any questions at the moment, but I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos. Never too old to learn something interesting!
I’m curious about this, fungus gnat larvae as far as I know live in my damn tubs! Sometimes… and I gotta get rid of everything and start over to get rid of the bastards.
What sort of tubs? Why do you keep tubs?
@@mgevirtz I grow mushrooms and I use tubs instead of bags cause the tubs are reusable. I only got fungus gnats a handful of times but I couldn’t figure any way to get rid of them and save anything in that space. Just dump it all and start over. I don’t think they do anything to the mushrooms themselves but you can’t sell mushrooms that grow in substrate that has maggots crawling through it and feel good about yourself
@@mgevirtz sry bout how confusing that was
Apperently the fungus gnat larvae DO eat the shrooms. And indeed, you'd have a hard time selling mushrooms full of maggots. I think even I would be adverse to buying them. Keep on keeping on!
Hey fungus-grower friend! Here is the update: th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html
Rat tailed maggot…. Drone fly larvae. Check it out.
Very interesting!! Thanks. I considered putting a drone fly under the scope yesterday, but I didn't have the heart to kill the creature.
I had a bucket with paint and motor oil in it that got forgotten about and filled with rain water. I couldn’t believe anything could live it that nasty water but I guess that’s what drone flys do, They lay their eggs In the nastiest waster they can find. Apparently something about their skin keeps them safe in water that predators couldn’t survive in I want a microscope.
I don't know if they go for nasty water, but certainly they seem to tolerate some horrible conditions. Quite fascinating.
@@mgevirtz THEY DO SO ! lol. 😂. I’m pretty it’s intentional. But I’m just trying to be funny. I appreciate you
The US isn't doing anything in Israel. Politics in the middle of a video about bugs is lame.
War is lame. Thanks for watching to the end.
@@mgevirtz Agreed war is lame. No harm in bringing it up.
Thank you.
@@mgevirtz actually, growing mosquitos is even more lame than war.
Hey there, fewer comments on the lameocity of war in this video: th-cam.com/video/uFP1tm3xl7c/w-d-xo.html
