Y'all, I have met Andre 3000 a few times, and can say he is the epitome of what humble is like. I used to work at a movie theater (Regal off I85 N), and it was a celebrity sighting spot. Most of these famous people would come and get escorted past the long lines by security, and into the theater. Andre 3000 is the ONLY one who would wait in the long line like he's any other customer. God bless him.

I remember listening to this album in my room the day it came out. I put this song on for my dad later that day, and immediately he says, "And the big fat bass line comes in...now." I just smiled in awe. Then he put on some records from the 70's that blew my mind. Turned me on to fusion in a big way.

Victor Wooten - Show of Hands, Soul Circus (from the 90's, but he's a great bass player. He started with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, also fantastic)
As far as fusion goes, I love the deep groove, in the pocket stuff. I also really like the driving upbeat stuff, but sometimes it can get a little too out there for me. Chick Corea is great, but he plays a million notes a second, and that doesn't quite do it for me.
My favorite fusion guys are Cobham and Jean-Luc. Check out that Spectrum album. The first side is driving, a million miles an hour, and the second side is real laid back, groovy stuff. It's amazing. Very raw and genuine. They did it at Electric Lady, studio in Greenwich Village built for Jimi. Awesome space. I had the privilege of working there last year. Lots of history.
Anyway, check that stuff out. You're bound to dig some of it. You play? What kind of music are you into?
