  • On February 22nd 1980, the USA men's hockey team defeated the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. In fact, this showdown was so legendary, that it has since been nicknamed the 'Miracle On Ice', as the underdog Americans somehow pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports!
Since it's been 42 years since this iconic match took place and since much of the American's roster is still active within the sport to this very day, I began to ask myself: what happened to all of these players after their historical win? Well let's take a look at every member of this iconic group and find out, shall we?

Imagine being Ken Morrow. Winning the most unlikely gold metal in history and then winning 4 straight Stanley cups right after. What an absolute banger of a career

It was not! Russia have only 80000 hockey players! USA have 500000 hockey players! Canada have 650000 hockey players! Soviet Russian league goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 Only good Russian was in 1980 olympics was Makarov 29 goals! The Soccer have 250 million players vs Russian hockey 80000! USA and Canada should have 15 guys today who have scored over 800 goals like Ovechkin today!! Lake placid had good players like Jari Kurri Peter Stastny Glenn Anderson Neal Broten! After the olympics 1980s NHL scoring leaders were Gretzky Kurri Stastny Anderson Broten!! USA had More Ice rinks and hockey players than Russia in 1980! USA and Russia have been trash in olympics hockey 1998-2014 no gold medals!!

I was 12 years old when I watched the USA defeat the Soviet Union. That was all we talked about at school for a week. Which was extremely weird since I lived in Southern Louisiana and none of us at school had no idea what hockey was until those Olympic games. What is even weirder, is that I got chills as I typed all of this. I guess there are things that happen in your life that you truly never forget.

      Silk was not fast whatsoever.
He was arguably one of the
3 slowest forwards on the 1980 US Team.
      Pavelich, Broten, Christoff, Strobel
McClanahan, Schneider, Harrington were much faster and Wells and Eruzione were a bit faster North\South.
      Verchota and Johnson
were about a fast as Silk.
Silk had excellent puck skills and very good hockey IQ and
had decent finishing skills that he displayed his Fr. year at BU scoring 35 goals in 1976-77.

It’s honestly pretty incredible to see how much NHL talent this team produced.

    • @KMK7355
      @KMK7355 ปีที่แล้ว

The team was made up of players born between 1954-1960. That
era of players were by far the best
group of players produced in the US to that point. Broten, Johnson
Christian and Christoff upfront and Morrow, Ramsey and O'Callahan on D had very good NHL careers. Christian played D
      on the 1980 Team.
That US Olympic Team lost two
HOF in Joe Mullen and Rod Langway along with Gordie Roberts who already were in the NHL.

I absolutely love most of the content you produce but this might be one of my favorite vids / series you’ve ever made!
The Disney movie about this is unironically one of the things that got me into hockey. I love most sports and can find joy and excitement in them but that movie is what sparked my interest in / fascination with hockey. So I’m really glad to watch those men get some love while also learning so much about them. And seeing how the ending of Miracle always is bitter sweet to me cause the team is done after that tournament I’m really glad to hear most of them got to be success-full and happy in and out of hockey. Also there are a few real das ones in there…
I definitely can’t wait for part 2! Keep up the great work

Grate video I think that another video like this could be the Russians who played in the nhl who also played in that game like Viacheslav Fetisov who won the cup in 1995 with the Red wings

The Russians in that tournament didn't fare too well after 1980, outside of international hockey at least. Only a few of them ever made it to the NHL and at least a half dozen of them are dead now.
