Thanks for the list. Astroblast needed 1 more element to be great, in my opinion. Something simple like losing if you let too many objects fall to the surface. It does feel good to shoot though.
My favorite unassuming title is Gravitar. Lots of depth and replayability and hard as heck to beat.

There was a little something missing from Astroblast. As you said there was no real penalty for letting to many hit the surface. Atlantis and missile command had that going for it that too many hits meant end of game.

Getting Asteroids to play at home and in color must have been pretty exciting back then.
Your capture really looks like the real TV feel also.

It was a wonderful thing to be able to bring home an arcade game to play at home on your system
There was only one arcade near our house a couple of towns over so it was an extremely rare treat to actually go to the arcade. Outside of that, the occasional arcade game at a hotel or a Pizza Hut or a mom and pop pizza place growing up the Atari was my closest thing to the real thing.
The real TV effect is because I am actually recording the analog signal from my Atari 2600 Jr playing all these games. I still have some radio interference but its the best I can do for now without modding the Atari for better video output. But it does give it an authentic look and feel from when I was a kid
