Wanted to clarify a comment I've seen a few times in the section. In reference to volume, I was simply stating that in blind tests, variances in volume trick many listeners into believing they are listening to superior equipment. Not that volume is the single most important factor in sound reproduction but for most it is an important component.
Sub to my new channel link in the DESCRIPTION If you do that again i'll dislike everysingle video of all of your channels, Spamming is NOT the way to go minecraft boy...
Sub to my new channel link in the DESCRIPTION Its not an issult, i played a lot of minecraft a good time ago, but listen here kid, 1 nobody watches new minecraft guys anymore, 2 if you keep spamming will only attract haters and people to anoy you 3 you're wasting my and yours time, 4 fuck off.
+Arthur Bekkerman people who have fucked up hearing think the volumes to low because we jam the music way to high so its to low for us so we need a amplifier
+Griffin Baxter It's because some headphones have a higher impedance. I own some 600 Ohm headphones and they simply don't work with phones' integrated amplifiers. I even doubt the Boom stick will be able to push them.
External amps can definitely help a lot I use one with my PC setup, Sony MDR-XB500 headphones hooked into a Go-Vibe v4 portable amp which is connected to the soundcard's line output, it gave a huge boost in overall clarity and volume along with super clean / deep bass, I've been using this setup for years and it's very satisfying, haven't had the urge to change anything.
Brandon Goh This product is an amp, it's powered right? and delivers more volume? an EQ is just an EQ. But Fiio manufacturers mp3 players, amps, dacs, or a combination of both.
+Brick Tamland I agree, rather just pay nearly 1/4th the price for this www.amazon.com/FiiO-A1-Silver-Portable-Headphone/dp/B01CPUVPEM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1460482461&sr=1-1&keywords=fiio+a1 lol
+Faisal Al Yakobi Too many positives these days... and I see his view counts is just skyrocketing despite barely useful info come from watching his video... I almost give him a nod if not for the useless Amp actually go for $99...
I use a USB OTG cable and Turtle Beach Micro II external sound card with my phone. It takes power of the phone, so I don't have to charge it. Gives better sound with more volume.
$100 to increase the volume when I can use Viper4Android + Dolby Surround Plus to get not just a higher volume but better sound quality to suit my taste. Just to mention, volume level 3 with that combination is almost too loud.
the reason volume gives the illusion of quality is because our ears are less sensitive to bass and high range frequencies, the two most appealing areas of sound while listening to music, hence why if you crank up the volume the bass pops and you get more clarity.
It boosts bass & treble. If you have cheap headphones that sound like shit because they don't respond well to particularly low or high frequency inputs, they boost the frequency extremes so you can hear them at louder levels relative to the midrange, which cheap 'phones do fine. It increases volume, too, if you want. That's what it does, without all the jibba-jabba foo :)
You could get the FiiO E6 for like $24 which does the same thing. Also the newer improved version which is called the FiiO A3 for $60. I got the E6 as part of a package deal when I bought my Audio Technica headphones and the amp does wonders to the sound. The sound is already good without the amp, but it makes the volume and clarity insane.
I doubt that. I highly doubt that. Considering the amp in this device is made to power personal hearing devices and the amp in your car is made to power car stereos. We're talking hundreds of times more power in car amps.
That volume trick for marketing loudness, same as the gimmick that Best Buy uses to sell you that phone with Beats Audio. It's just an EQ with a bass boost, but you are going to want it over the phone without, even for $100 more. Marketing has a way with people's minds.
Great review, but one thing you should do is to record the audio directly from the phone with an AUX configuration then just add the BoomStick in between. That way we hear everything clearly as if we were to listen it ourselves.
i see apple buying this company and making the beats headphones more quiet so you can by an additional boomstick to use them to their full potential hahaha
Was wondering when you were going to do this video, I have had mine for a few months and I am loving them. Also if you hold the button down you get another sound boost.
the end thing is called pressy. I did a review of it on my other channel (search "A Poor Man's Tech) if anyone wants to see it. will also be reviewing a speaker soon
I don't think you understand the point with the product, it's not for increase of the volume, it's it to amplify the sound, that means you make the sound better by increasing the bass or decrease it, simply it just make the sound better not increasing it
While I like the concept of it supposedly scanning your music in real time and then adding tweaks where necessary, there's only so much upscaling you can do to a low quality audio file to make it sound better. Without that, this is basically just an amp, one directed towards the more average consumer who only cares about how loud the volume gets. Then again, I already own a phone with a music player that can upscale audio playback to 32-bit and a built in DAC and amp which can power higher resistance cans so the Boomstick won't appeal to me. I do agree with the notion that certain headphones sound vastly different when driven with more power though.
You can just change the EQ on your phone. All it does is give it bass. It sounds good on my phone but my iPod every song sounds crappy Till I change it from hiphop to jazz. Makes it seem like it adds massive volume. In my opinion it just adds bass.
The review was so intimidating by your positive actions that I was waiting for your price point on the Boomstick. The price was never mentioned so I looked it up on Amazon and I was like, DAMN!!!!! I think I will wait another year or so for the price to drop. In the meantime. I'll keep listening thru my Skullcandy
Everyone needs to buy one of these. So worth it! I have one for my car speakers and I literally hear parts of songs I've never heard before. It turns shit speakers to speakers better than beats. It's crazy cool so I suggest everyone get one.
My first headphone amp was the Fiio E6 which is less than $25 and I am positive it outperforms this $100 unit. I just have to question a product named BoomStick. I use a amp/dac now but for the casual listener, save your money.
First of all you would have to do it the other way. Plug the boom stick into your phone not the car. And then put the aux cable into your car and the boom stick. Secondly no. All this does is make it a bit louder and change bass/treble. But since you can adjust these things on your car radio anyways it doesn't matter. I hope this helps.
This product is also heavily advertised and they censor bad reviews. Don't fall for it. They are trying to do the "beats trick" where they tell you it sounds better by just making it a bit louder and harsher sounding (boosted bass and highs). But because it sounds different from what you are used to and the company told you it sounds better you assume different means better. Just fiddle with the settings in your car radio and find a setting that you like, because audio is very subjective anyways.
Definitely has me interested, I just wish we didn't have the need to add another device between the headphones and mobile device. Though I guess part of the benefit of Apple removing the headphone port (if they actually do) is that all headphones will either have this kind of thing integrated into it, or use an adaptor like this, that plugs into the charging/data port. Though I really think, even if it added a little to the price, people wouldn't mind having their phones have an amp built in that performs like this one in the video.
There are already a few smartphones with reputable amps and dacs built in, one of them being the LG V10. If one just wants a phone with loud sound output, HTC covers that too since they like to use high power headphone jack amps in their phones.
it shouldn't really matter with the earpods though...the phone has enough power to power those headphones...wouldn't increasing the volume on those just distort the sound, or even possibly damage the drivers?
Thanks for the vid. Unfortunately, volume isn't everything. Does it improve on the bass, mids and highs or is volume the only difference you noticed? 😶
Bluetooth capable I wish. rocking the Jaybird X2s. obviously great quality, but I wonder what effect they could have. it sounds like a built in equalizer almost. haha.
for that price tho just little more i got FiiO alpen 2, think alot better choice not just cause quality but options tune vol/bass/treb as well using it as external sound card, the boom stick would seem good if it was in a bit lower price area i think
I saw the Boomstick at CES and bought one. It's a real audiophile product that really takes headPhone music to a much higher level. I talked to the guys who invented it - they are audio industry veterans who know what they are doing. The stick does a lot more than amplify. It a lot equalizes for headphones in one or two mode: normal for regular over ear, and Boost for earbuds. Music is created and mixed on speakers but sounds different on headphones. The Boomstick corrects for these differences by 1. Expanding the sound stage, 2. Equalizing mids and treble to sound more like high end speakers, and 3. Boosting bass to restore the punch you lose when you use small drivers. If you use phones a lot like hours each day, the Boomstick is worth it. Most improvement you can get for under $100.
Compare to the FiiO E6? $23-27 on Amazon. It's not the best headphone amp, but it is so tiny and better than any other "cheap" portable amp I've tried. There is also a new FiiO A1, which replaces the E6 that is higher quality (less plastic-y). I highly recommend the E6 for anyone who uses headphones with a Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita. I can't recommend it enough. I'd love to see Lewis unbox/review the A1 if it is available now. or other FiiO products. They make some really fantastic (and affordable) audio products.
TIP: If you have an equalizer app/feature, on any device with bad headphones, put the lowest frequency to its max, highest frequency to its max, put the center all the way to zero, and leave the rest alone, sounds phenomenal
99$ for volume boost and enhanced sound, or for Free you can root your phone change volume in android file and install Viper4. ( with root boost you can make the sound louder and louder until your headphone not support so be carefull )

You want more volume? Use a player like Poweramp. In the EQ settings you're also able to increase preamp volume.
I use a USB OTG cable and Turtle Beach Micro II external sound card with my phone.
It takes power of the phone, so I don't have to charge it. Gives better sound with more volume.

the reason volume gives the illusion of quality is because our ears are less sensitive to bass and high range frequencies, the two most appealing areas of sound while listening to music, hence why if you crank up the volume the bass pops and you get more clarity.
After some stalking, this Jack character went to Lakehead Uni between 2005 - 2009 and had work with/or for IBM.
It boosts bass & treble.

what about an AUX cable to a car stereo?????
+COMMA$ why? your car stereo already has an amp, all that would do is distort your signal going into the car.
Cheezus what if i want even more
more distortion?
Cheezus what if my amp is ass, will this make it unass
I doubt that. I highly doubt that. Considering the amp in this device is made to power personal hearing devices and the amp in your car is made to power car stereos. We're talking hundreds of times more power in car amps.
For the low price of $1000 you can make your $20 earbuds sound like $200 earbuds!

I never go over half of the allowed volume while using headphones so this product is useless to me.
I don't think you understand the point with the product, it's not for increase of the volume, it's it to amplify the sound, that means you make the sound better by increasing the bass or decrease it, simply it just make the sound better not increasing it

First of all you would have to do it the other way. Plug the boom stick into your phone not the car. And then put the aux cable into your car and the boom stick.

All this does is make it a bit louder and change bass/treble. But since you can adjust these things on your car radio anyways it doesn't matter.

If you want better volume, go get a boostaroo audio enhancer/audio jack splitter
so many people with clickbait videos but unbox's videos actually relate to the title
Could you do a review of the Dragonfly Red headphone amplifier?
Yeah... don't just want lots of volume. Get noise canceling. Just upping the volume can cause more deafness.
Definitely has me interested, I just wish we didn't have the need to add another device between the headphones and mobile device. You should do a video where you try plugging the SleepPhones into the BoomStick. See if it helps fill out that sound.
What would happen if you were to route a speaker through the boomstick? Would there still be an improvement in the quality?
for that price tho just little more i got FiiO alpen 2, think alot better choice not just cause quality but options tune vol/bass/treb as well using it as external sound card, the boom stick would seem good if it was in a bit lower price area i think
Is it compressing the audio to make it louder or just amplifying what you put into it?
would this enhance gaming audio as well? say if I hooked it up into my Xbox One controller with a pair of gaming headphones
gaming headphones what joke... gaming headphones lol, what else will they make for idiots gaming socks, gaming underwear, gaming power cable...
I saw the Boomstick at CES and bought one. It's a real audiophile product that really takes headPhone music to a much higher level. soooo it's just extra volume? how's the sound quality? does it distort because of playing higher than manufactured decibel range?
Whats the name of the song he is testing the thing with?
99$ for volume boost and enhanced sound, or for Free you can root your phone change volume in android file and install Viper4. ( with root boost you can make the sound louder and louder until your headphone not support so be carefull )
What if you plugged your headphones into a boomstick attached to another boomstick?
if possible, are you able to test it with portable speakers? will it improve the sound? will it worsen the battery life compared to IE/OE?
What was the name of the song he was playing on his headphones?
does it improve the quality of the sound does it just amplify the volume..?
What ear buds do you use/recommend for daily use?
