Been there / done that . I'm 69 now and don't go there or do that. They call me Lightning . I never hit in the same place twice. Thanks for your video and all the best in all endeavors.
Damn, i had this huge log today. Was trying to split it in half for an hour, never figured it out to try it split from the sides. Sometimes my brain doesnt work. Thanks for the idea.
Splitting firewood can be hard work and getting tired is the enemy. If I was confronted with a block like this, i would be going for the sledgehammer and wedges to open it up and make the job easier for myself. After putting yourself through that, you're not capable of any more productive work, until you give yourself a good rest.
Wood splitting law...Once you start....You can't let the wood beat you. I have soaked through a few shirts etc showing a piece of wood "who was the boss". Having said that. I would not have split that one. It was a great chopping block.
Yeah, I dunno..... why you cut your chunks so long? I tend to do the same when I'm cutting big rounds, but I should measure them to about 16" to 18". Makes them so much easier to split (and move) and that's about what we cut the smaller stuff to.
these split sessions are for effect. these pieces just get given to my friend that has a broiler. All my firewood sales are 16". This snow can f off anytime....have a good day
Using light swing make a consistent line across your desired split then stroke it hard hitting about 1 third of the circumference it should split pretty easy and im a lot smaller than you at 150lbs .
Hey Joe...Thanks for the suggestion! To be honest I do these for just a workout. Do about 30-45 min a day. Most of my splitting is done with my hydraulic splitter. Have a good one.
@kelownatreeguy7020 hahh... sounds like we're wired the same way lol. I started cutting and splitting wood with my ole man when I was 7-8 yo . He taught me some stuff...😄

Thanks for sharing
What do you mean? Have you changed your technique or no longer split wood? I just started so I'm curious. Maybe you have some wisdom you can share?

i'm glad i'm not the only one who will swing till i pass out, lol,i would've got the sledge and wedges after i got some good lines started ,well done
yup its a weird addiction...but i guess there could be worse ones
People pay hundreds of dollars for psychiatrists and gym memberships. I like your solution better.
have to get out your stressers somehow. mine is removing trees and splitting these ugly things
Oh, the dreaded maul bounce. I have been there many times.
Good job braking it down 😉👍
Thank yah sir. Have to watch yah don’t get the end in the head off a bad bounce
Who needs firewood to stay warm... just keep swing that maul😂
haha yup....i have always liked splitting wood even as a kid. something very satisfying but the whole thing
He'll yeah dude what a beast you can really swing that mall
haha thanks man.
I did this with solid twisted maple. Two rounds took 30 minute each to hack apart. Ended up with a huge pile of kindling and a hernia on both sides...
lol...felt good though didnt it!! ?
You won! I know that feeling.
the sweet sound of cracking wood only a few know of haha
goals

Good to see your subscriber count growing. Seems it was around 30 last week when I first tripped by. Keep it up. It will probably accelerate a little.
hey man! yup ppl seem to like dogs more than rounds haha
Those Isocores seem to work good! I have love hate relationship with Elm!😂😂 Nice work!
yup elm can be ok or your worst nightmare
Rip it 1/4 way with saw then use felling wedges to pop apart
Dang, I just pulled my back watching that.
lol.

i like challenges. but yes a good chopping block
Turn it over and split with the grain. Get a couple of wedges. Save the difficult stuff for -30°.
cant find my wedges.....snow came a bit early haha.
Thar was entertaining. Thank you for trying.
lol thanks. thats what it was for
At 4:22 is more than I would’ve gave it . Just admit you got your ass kicked!!
yup I did. Splitting this round is like day to day life...getting my ass kicked
Give splitting wedges a chance.
wedges to easy....might as well just use my hydraulic. I just do these rounds once in awhile for a workout

@@kelownatreeguy7020 yea my splitter gets the workout now.
Instead of trying to split thru the middle of the log, start by taking chunks off around the perimeter.... less wood to cleave...
your right thats the proper way for a big chunk like this. But i am a stubborn mule sometimes...

Wedges ? Just a thought .
wedges to easy. I do these to see how long it takes and for a workout. I have hydraulic splitters
Slide your hand on the axe for better leverage and speed.
The hand near the axe head.
you dont see him doing that? i just opened the video and see him doing your suggestion right away
@OrchMC no, no I didn't
They make these things called wood splitters for this reason. They have a gas motor and a hydraulic cylinder. 😂😂
you can see it in the background....but doing this is more of a stress reliever ...and workout
Where's the fun in that?
Maintain a line, and follow it! What am I watching?
why struggle? cut it into 2 or even 3 ive split plenty and if i dont go or looks twisted/notty chainsaw it! who wants 3ft long logs anyway?
Its just for show....I do these just for a workout and to see if I can. Normally I just use the log splitter and drink a beer doing it
Uhhh, don't they make machines for that?
haha they do. its in the top right corner of the screen.
@kelownatreeguy7020 Just joking. I work at a wood mill. I woke up hurtin from watching the vid last nite.
Jeeze..that was painful to watch. Go get a wedge!
haha wedges are to easy. might as well just use my hydraulic splitter.
People are such babies nowadays. Probably shouldn't do grown mans work for a career bud
Haha
