Hannahs Cottage is a beautifully restored traditional cottage that enjoys superb panoramic views that sweep over Fintra Bay and beach and out into Donegal Bay towards the mountains of North Sligo. The tip of the St Johns Point Peninsula with its iconic lighthouse can also be seen from the cottage. This top class catering accommodation is just 2km outside the major coastal town of Killybegs. Killybegs is the gateway to the dramatic Slieve League Peninsula which features stunning scenery as well as the quaint Gaeltacht villages of Kilcar, Carrick, Teelin and Glencolmcille.
Traditional Style with Modern Comforts
Hannahs Cottage has been sympathetically restored to the highest standard, retaining many original features such as narrow slit windows, exposed ceiling beams, flagstone floor and rough stone walls. Fortunately, however, you do not have to sacrifice modern comforts as a modern kitchen, bathroom, and central heating have been sympathetically added to the original cottage to create a top class self catering cottage. The cottage has the added advantage of beautifully landscaped grounds.
The main room in the cottage has kitchen dining and living areas and is tastefully furnished and decorated in keeping with the traditional style. A high ceiling and velux roof windows give an airy feel to this charming room. The living area has a very stylish wood burning stove in a traditional fireplace surround. The cottage has 4 traditional style double bedrooms and a large shower room. In the landscaped garden there is a beautiful decking area with a purpose built barbecue station.
Blue Flag Fintra Beach
The cottage is just 1km from Fintra beach --a wonderful sheltered blue flag beach. A further 2km is the town of Killybegs -- Ireland's premier fishing port that is well served with pubs, restaurants and hotels. Unsurprisingly, Killybegs is a popular destination for sea anglers. Also close to the cottage, in the direction of Kilcar, is the renowned Kitty Kellys Restaurant.
South West Donegal
Hannahs Cottage lies along the route of Irelands Wild Atlantic Way and is just 17km from one of the main Destination Points along this route -- the dramatic sea cliffs at Slieve League. These cliffs can be accessed by road or by boat from Teelin Pier. The coastline between Killybegs and Glencolmcille has numerous sandy beaches. The entire Slieve League area is also wonderful walking terrain.
The Glen Folk Village in Glencolmcille is another major attraction. This wonderful museum is a reconstruction of the historic homes and dwellings of South West Donegal. In other directions, Hannahs Cotttage is 30km from historic Donegal Town and just over 20km from the heritage town of Ardara.
