Thank you for honoring Mr. Phil Lesh again, with one of his most beloved songs. I was at this show with my girlfriend, and "Box Of Rain" was her favorite Grateful Dead song, so it meant a lot to both of us. Bruce Hornsby and The Range were the opening act, and then The Dead came on and did an amazing show at the old, and now demolished John F. Kennedy Stadium. The day was VERY hot, but the show was great. RIP Phil.
What a beautiful memory to share! It’s wonderful that "Box of Rain" holds such a special place for you and your girlfriend. Thank you for honoring Phil Lesh's legacy and sharing your personal connection with this amazing performance. Rest in peace, Phil. 🌹🎶
He wrote it while his Dad was dying. He wrote it for his Dad to comfort him in his death. Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there. A summary of life.
Music has a powerful way of conveying those deep emotions, and it's moving to know the personal significance behind the song. Thank you for sharing this beautiful insight!
Love this song! Thanks for the playing! I only saw them once, in Telluride, Colorado about two years before this show, but all of the same band members. An incredibly beautiful place and wonderful show; perfect as the Grateful Dead.
What a beautiful memory! Seeing them in such a stunning place like Telluride must have been an unforgettable experience. The Grateful Dead truly had a way of making every show feel magical. Thank you for sharing your story! ❤️❤️❤️
Cool! Me too, I saw them in them as a freshman student on Summer break. I saw them August 15 & 16th, 1987 in Telluride, CO. I still have my parking lot tie-dye shirt purchase. These were shows 3 & 4 for me. Probably saw them @ 15x “Box of Rain” was one of my first intro songs to the Dead. I still have my American Beauty cassette tape. Check out the “Scarlet ➡️ 🔥Fire” from the 1977 Cornell University show at Barton Hall. Phil is off the chain at this show.
