Before I even watch this video, I want to say a big thank you for these videos. Thank you for the nostalgic induced tears. Thank you for a few minutes of calm in this crazy world.
Yet another fantastic collection of nostalgic photos of the great city of Glasgow & surrounding area's, bringing the usual happy memories of simpler & happier times..👍👍👍 Thank you once more Glasgow photographs for sharing these gems & allowing people to see this wonderful part of country..👏👏👏👏
Yet another great video. Thanks. However, can I question the date of 1962 for the shot of Great Western Road at 4:20? It's been taken from more or less at the foot of the close where I lived then and the tram lines which ran along the central reservation have obviously been lifted. However, the trams didn't stop running along there until September 1962 and so very unlikely there were lifted and grassed over so quickly.
I'm not so sure. When the trams finally stopped in 1962, there was only one line left running at that time and that was the No.9 which didn't go along Great Western Road. As far as I can tell, the No.30 tram ran along there but I can't find out what date that line closed. It could have closed in the late 50's giving plenty of time to remove the tracks and wires. The age of the other vehicles in the photo tend to support the 1962 date.
Another fantastic compilation. Thank you. My mum lived in Cornwall st. as a kid and I may be wrong, but I think that the Cardonald library hut thing is still there. I'm not sure what it's used for. Scouts or a Labour club or something.
Many thanks! I love looking at these old pictures of my native city which I left 46 years ago. I'd also like to thank Brian Carno for confirming that Cilla was in the background of the Ken Dodd photo. I'd wondered if it was her but wasn't sure.
Thank you Colin. I was struck by the contrast of trousers through the ages with the plus fours at 3.45 to the baggy flares at 2.30. Quite an evolution over 40 years. I'm happy to say there are no surviving photos of me wearing baggy flares. Oh... and another trolley bus photo 👍
Anybody remember maguires in bell st. 1979, a cheeky wee lass way red hair, won my heart as a 16 yr old,a worked oot o the carriers quarters way richmond menzies carriers, fae killie.?

Thanks Maria, I feel the same, moved from Glasgow 57 years ago, at the age of 9 (only 10miles down the road).
Lovely old photos, it's good that they are not lost in some old draw and forgotten.
I'm just glad people had the foresight to take these old pics.

@@brecklander Many thanks. I was sure it was still there. I only go past it driving to the Southern. Hopefully not too often in the future.

Thank you...the fashion police have been kept busy down the years.
I wonder if the clip of the Cosy Corner pub was the one at London rd & Dunn st ?.
It was popular with the fruit market porters.
@@colinburrowes8063 So where do you think location was ? Ta.
@@kennethMorrison-j3tIt was originally the Invermay bar and was situated at 166 Albion Street.
@@colinburrowes8063 ok thanks it's not the one I knew off London rd my father frequented it the guy who owned it was John McShane .

The impoverished looking woman at 11:20 appears to have a private telephone, which is rather surprising.
I think it’s the interior of the child welfare centre which was in Maitland St. where women could take their children to be fed.
