  • In this video, I discuss my thoughts on Normani's album rollout. She has been getting so many critiques about how she should be promoting her album, and I think it is VERY disrespectful.

    We gotta stop making excuses…. Even tho she’s been out for some time she’s still considered a NEW ARTIST…. She can’t pull a Beyoncé , Nicki or Rihanna & not promote anything leading up to her debut album! So far we have no music videos to everyone hype , no performances , hell we didn’t even know candy paint was dropping until the last min & that was a highly anticipated song that was supposed to her crazy in love moment! This is very lackluster & I don’t care what anyone says if Tinashe can promote her stuff unsigned so can Normani! Still to this very day we don’t even who normani is outside of the music it’s no connection with the fans whatsoever I’ll be surprised if this album do well!

    The album is out this week
    No itunes pre order
    No CD/Vinyl varient pre order
    No website update
    No full tracklist reveal
    And that is the BARE minimum for a rollout... its time to stop making excuses for Normani. If she wants this like she claim she does then effort needs to be put in.

      You’re obviously aware of when it’s out so do your part. You and many others in this comment section clearly don’t need anymore reminders, but you’re gonna use this as an excuse on why you didn’t do your part as a fan. Y’all feel entitled to all those things just because that’s part of the traditional rollout now, but her and her team don’t HAVE to do any of that.

    I was rocking with Normani from when she was on X-Factor. She had star quality before the group. IMO Normani and Dinah were the real stars of 5th Harmony. However, as a fan, I will not be delusional to the reality of the situation. This roll out has been a complete mess. I don't understand why, as a fan, I can't be honest without someone saying I'm not a real supporter. After the lackluster Waves and Fair, I was still with her up until 159 became the lead single. It wasn't first single worthy. It was mediocre at best and if it's setting the tone then it's not doing a good job. Then she releases Candy Paint. A song that has been around for the last 3 years or so. She has a whole album coming out and she couldn't give us anything new? Not even a video for a song she has been promising for years? As a fan you're okay with that? No promo on any talk shows or radio shows, just magazine interviews? No pre-order. No official track listing. No videos. 159 didn't even chart on Billboard. Unless you're Beyonce or Taylor, you need Promo in today's market. I have a feeling a visual album will come out on release and she'll have lots of visuals but it's not going to mean anything if you don't have any hype leading up to it. I guess time will tell.

    • @komaris
      @komaris  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Y’all are so convinced that the first week/month/year sells are the only thing that matters. So many artists dump every video, does all these interviews, promo, etc and maybe they do reach “success” but after the first week/month/year everything plummets. Nobody is even thinking about the album anymore. Maybe she’s confident in what she has created and knows that there’s no need for getting ppl riled up for something they already know is coming. Maybe she doesn’t care about chart success as much as y’all do. We don’t know what she thinks, how she feels, or what her plans are until she speaks on it publicly. Either way once this album is out she can promote it even 10 years later if she wanted to because it’s HER album based on HER life and experiences. As you said, “time will tell”.

      I have to agree. There's a disconnect. She created a lane for herself in Urban Pop with Motivation, Dancing with a Stranger and Love Lies. Then she had Wild Side, which is definitely more R&B, pushes Candy Paint for YEARS and we can't even get a video when it's released??? Dropped a few lack luster songs (Fair, Waves and 1:59) Candy Paint should have directly followed Motivation then the album should have followed Candy Paint. I was riding for Normani, but I can't stand by and take part in this foolery. Even fans should be disappointed with this roll out. I’m not upset or pressed at all I’m just happy she’s making music. If you’re a true fan you should understand what she’s been through. Her parents, the bullying from 5H for examples. I am however concerned for the album commercially. The expectation and bar is set so high at this point I fear if it flops not artistically but in terms of streams and popularity this may be her undoing. Her former band members have been putting out music and have had time to play around with their sound and brand . She’s a bit late to the party I just hope everyone gives her some grace because she is so talented it would be a shame to let it go to waste

      Normani can’t be compared to any of her peers. As a fan, you should understand that and have hope for her in my opinion. I think we tend to forget that the ball is in our court once this album drops (the one everyone is clearly already aware of even with little to no promo). If we want to see her win, buy the album, stream, and support her in whatever else she has coming that has yet to be announced. After all these years I’m sure her & her team knows what we want but we just have to be patient and stop expecting her to move out of fear because of what everyone else has going on.

    "Ya'll are not A&Rs" Do I need to be a cook to know that the food is nasty? Do I need to be a lawyer to know that a crime is being committed? Do I need to be a doctor to know if a b is sick? Why was Candy Paint teased years ago and just being released now? Everything seemed delayed with her rollout and because things are being delayed, she MIGHT not be able to capitalize on the hype and the momentum...I will always love Normani's artistry but acting like her rollout is not chaotic is silly...you need to get off stan twitter bc irl no one is attacking this girl relax

      It's not about the surface-level understanding of things hence all those analogies you gave. All of this is social science, and many of you have no clue what you are talking about. You're just opinionated and comparing her path to what has already been done when it is so much deeper than that. Also, "Candy Paint" was LEAKED years ago! It was not teased. I'm not on "stan Twitter". The comments on this video alone should show you that people don't want to see this girl win.

    I understand what your saying but we are her audience her fans allow her to continue her passion by buying her music and by streaming. Also, the rollout is terrible no matter how you put it we should have 1. The tracklist 2. At least ONE music video especially the lead single. 3. Like more interactions. Like I think everyone had more than enough patience and it weird to say we haven't. You can't be overworked without working 💀 we just need her to do what she needs to do so we can support her

    Regardless of anything I AM SO PROUD OF NORMANI!!!!!
    She waited until she was fully confident in herself as an artist to release a body of work that she believed in instead of forcing out cookie cutter run of the mill dime a dozen factory music.
    Each and every song you can tell was perfectly crafted and meticulously invested with effort and care.
    This album has been on repeat since last week, and much like SZA's SOS she should receive every nomination in the book for this gorgeous work of art that was well worth the wait!

    nope. sorry but you guys coddle her too much. its been 5+ years of course i expect a proper album roll out. she has all but said she just wants to get this album released and over with and i find that to be a very off-putting attitude for an artist who should be excited about her work. i understand her family was going through a hard time, but she never made an announcement saying she was taking time off for her family which would have been totally understandable. instead she left fans hanging for years with the promise of an album that has yet to materialize. she is checked out & her music is lackluster tbh. I predict a flop and if im right I dont feel bad for her. she has set herself up to fail

    I've always rooted for Normani since the start of her solo career. I felt she, and the other ladies, were awkward in 5H, imo. Understanding everything that Normani has gone through to get to this point (her parents to extreme bullying, tension within 5H), I want her to have some success. Seriously.
    She has so, so much talent. But, as of right now, she is a novice in the art of solo career, especially in terms of releasing full bodies of work. Which means, no matter the talent or potential, business acumen must also back that up. Anyone at that stage is a beginner, and so they must begin as a beginner. Talent is great, but the truth is, it can only carry you so far. I really want the best for Normani, but am worried about how her first album will do commerically. People still gotta buy copies. We appreciate the integrity of the art, but these high-level record execs love the money and getting returns on it at the end of the day. It's sad but true.
    Artistically, the album will be great. But I'm not sure what her, or her teams, expectation is, for it commerically, given what they're feeding into the project in terms of advertisement, interviews, connecting with the general public, etc, which extend beyond but also feed the body of work, for any kind of artist, unless they are of "Beyonce" or "Sade" caliber. Which is not overworking. Even Adele does a few interviews, then she dips. Its just letting people know, I'm here, my project exists. Nobody really knows anything about Normani outside of her music. I think an introduction to her in general would build a general foundation/fanbase. She doesn't owe us anything at all, but again, it would be nice to know just a little bit who we're watching and supporting.
    I don't think there's been a well-enough focus on a foundation, which can establish longevity or at least a steady streak for a few years, you know? But all of this, your video, and my comment, is speculation. We'll see what happens when the album comes out. I'm truly wishing her the best and can't wait to hear it.

    • @komaris
      @komaris  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely agree with the majority of this response. She finally said herself in an interview with Billboard that she owes it to her fans to let us know who she is beyond just the music & performances. I want her to win as well, but I think most of us are worried about wanting the album to have instant "success" with outstanding numbers straight out the gate, but that does not really matter because that can come with time. The release of this album may be her tool to help her communicate with us and let us know who she is without it seeming like she's just trying to sell the album. All the massive "promo" and additional teasers would not be a smart move in my opinion because we've been on the edge of our seats all this time already.
      I know she hasn't been following the route of a traditional rollout, but her fanbase is definitely existent, solidified, and aware of what's about to take place. She has the support & demand, but there just hasn't been much content out for them to get behind, but I believe this album releasing will show that. People that are overly worried about the promo and rollout seem to be lowkey wanting to play the convincing game with people who are NEVER going to be interested in Normani simply out of spite. However, time will tell and these are all speculations as you've said. If anything, I just hope Normani is happy with what she has created and whatever the outcome may be.
