    The fact that Alex was so nervous about meeting Jimmy Page, despite his own immense stature as a guitarist, perfectly epitomises the humility and integrity of this band.

      I just left a comment on the Vic Firth channel saying that the most epic drum battle (besides Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, the original drum battle) would have been between Peart and Bonham!

This was just a post about how it's cool to see famous musicians showing respect for each other, and you see it as an invitation to push your beliefs. Why not just try being a good and helpful friend to the people in your life. That will lead people to inquire about your faith more than your internet trolling.

    Rock-star stories are so much cooler than the rest of us lowly mortals. "My wife and I were on a bike tour through Morocco and....". Who else but Geddy Lee can begin a story with that intro? My best stories only involve me going to my local Wal-mart or Kroger supermarket.

    My friend Bill Hayes had a connection in the music industry who arranged an interview with Alex Lifeson of Rush in September of 1977. Bill was the music director at our College radio station KXLU in Los Angeles. He needed a sound engineer and he took me along and Alex Lifeson gave us a 3-hour interview! During that time I was very impressed with how humble and how genuine Alex was. We saw them in concert that night and I couldn't believe that he would give us that much time on the day he had a show. We played Rush daily on our radio station before anyone else was playing them in Southern California. I'm sure their success had more to do with their talent and the airplay that they were getting in the Toronto area but I will never forget the graciousness and one quote where Alex said he didn't really have his own guitar style! Listening to all their albums up to that point I'm sure he had developed his style by then. Alex also went out of his way to mention what a good bass player Geddy Lee was. Anyone who knows anything about music can easily hear Alex was right and Getty is indeed one of the best bass players to ever play! Congratulations and enjoy your success Alex! It is definitely earned and well-deserved.

    • @scrotor189
      @scrotor189 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blind Terry Tucci do you even know how music works? There's only so many chords you can play and I'd hate to say it but the only reason rush sounds unique is because they're using SO many different effects pedals and keyboards and nonsense.

    • @blindterrytucci2752
      @blindterrytucci2752 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You want to ask me if I know how music works and then follow it up with "Rush is unique because of effects pedals and keyboards"? Hahaha. Really? It's always obvious when people know nothing about Rush...and even more obvious that the person doesn't know what they're talking about when they say things like "there's only so many chords". There's millions of songs that use Am,G, F, C, and D chords...I've never heard a single other song that sounds like Stairway besides the Spirit song and Stairway. Nobody else is being sued except Jimmy Page...but there's only so many chords! There's "only so many chords", yet nobody has been sued as many times as Jimmy Page. Please, go fuck yourself. Or listen to Led Zeppelin. They're about the same. Try to have an actual argument next time.

    What I think is Rush's most distinctive aspect among the other bands who gravitate in the higher spheres of rockdom, apart from unusual talent and longevity, is the respect they have for their fans and for the media, even to those (very few) media people who do not respect them. Reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd in this regard. It's obvious it's not just an act, there is this unique interaction.

    I just went threw and read 'all' comments. To all the posters that commented on this post. Amazing apparently no one realizes that these comments are just so overwhelming that it blows my mind. So much negativity just on someone's opinion WOW!
    These people are just'artists' expressing there emotions and emulating their hero's . The greatest compliment anyone can get is plagiarism. Especially from a worldly renowned artist.
    Bless all u people that have such strong feelings on your opinions. If all that energy could be used for good.

    alex was a huge influence in my own playing way back in the day...still play some his stuff every now and then just to keep up some rush chops.....But I think if you realize his fascination with page its right up there with say - if hendrix was still alive and you gotta chance to say 'sup jimi.......Isnt Led Zeppelin the ALL TIME BEST ROCK N ROLL BAND EVER? MOST KICKASS ROCK AND ROLL BAND IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND? Jimmy Page will always have his title..People will ALWAYS request his guitar playing more on the radios than anyone elses.... Hes got his title whether or not you think he does....Jimmy F'in Page !!

      amen to that brotha.... I love jeff becks playing probably more than anyone elses for the long run but even beck couldn't write a song that tops jimmy page....beck hardly writes anything anyway - hes usually just raping someone elses song into a wicked frenzy unlike nobody else can do with an electric guitar.....& yet its not about technique or fancy theory in his playing - its just him knowing the instrument better than anyone else Ive saw...Jimmy beats Beck though in the 1 category that is probably more self gratifying than any other....Writing great music....

    thats so true about jimmy page.... who else in their career wrote more songs - riff by riff / lick by lick... album to album that were just so brilliant through experimental avenues as a guitarist than jimmy page? for real.... I mean everyone wants to play like jeff beck..I love jeffs playing as much as anyone else...wish I had his mojo in my own playing... but jimmy wrote more songs than anyone on guitar that made the milestones in rock guitar playing... beck plays stuff a lot of other ppl write...his way....& page even said when becks in his moment hes untouchable.... but nobody beats jimmy at songwriting and producing his own thing...

      I have seen Page live and I've seen a million other good guitarists also but nobody made the hair stand on your neck like Page . The tones he gets are just so heavy it is impossible to describe to someone who hasnt heard him . He and John Paul Jones both understand how to fill a room with with a fat sound . Page and Jones understand drama , atmosphere and dynamics like classical musicians .

      After Led Zeppelin broke up was it Jimmy Page with a solo career or was it the guy that is represented by the writing quill that went on to write and sing his own material , people tend to forget that Plant has more credits writing music as a solo artist and that Page and Plant often collaborated on Zeppelin songs , Yes Jimmy was a producer but that does not necessarily mean he wrote all of the music . there are a few similarities between rush and zep , they both had outstanding musicianship and composed a ton of great songs . Jimmy stole a lot of music and Peart borrowed a few ideas from Shakespeare.Plant is still writing and doing the odd concert and it looks like Jimmy is resting on his laurels. Even JPJ was doing sound tracks for movies just like Stewart Copeland of " the police " fame. Last thing I remember Page doing was that little hbo thing with edge and jack black.

    • @schmackerz
      @schmackerz 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      too bad we didn't have the internet tech back in the days when these guys were young and making waves in their careers documenting their experiences.... I never quite got the idea of having the edge as part of the trio.... I mean he definitely made his own sound in guitar playing......He just never really had the avenues in his playing that I found to be real influential.... I don't really wanna go play with a delay after I hear his stuff....But when I hear George Lynch play with a delay - I do...... Know what I mean? I never bought any U2 stuff either...Usually turned it off on the radio when it came on...Not that it was bad - just didn't have the vibe I really enjoy which is all blues based really.... Edge doesn't really have that going on... Page and White both do.....

    Once a guitarist(or any musician for the matter) reaches a certain level it's ridiculous to speculate or claim that one is "better" than another...Example; Who's better? David Gilmour, or Jimi Hendrix? A stupid irrelevant question, and the person that ask it, or claims to have an answer, just shows their own lack of understanding about music as art and expression.

    I first met Jimmy Page in person when my friend stood on his girlfriend's long cloak at a Stanley Clark concert in New Orleans, afterwards going to the Royal Orleans hotel. Years later post the R&R HOF 2013 "Indictments", I met Robert Plant on a plane after Rush's show in Austin while headed to Rush's next show in Ft. Lauderdale. Meeting Zeppelin is always a freaky trip, mon. I be slappin' myself! I've never actually "met" Rush but I've seen them 30 times now since 4/19/81 in Armstrong Park rollerskating near Mahalia Jackson. It's so weird that Neil was 'shunpiking' on Bourbon St. at the same time I was in the air with Robert Plant. I'm still blown away by the whole thing, as you can tell. I wish that I could live it all again! Oh yeah, that was me with the Red Watchmaker's Bee Shirt holding the BLAH sign in Austin, btw. Reading the Cee Lo Green article in the back of the flight magazine wearing the Time Machine Moving Pictures Tour shirt in which he was speaking of, with the feather in the wind sitting right there! omg talk about weird.

      +thorn35 You obviously don't play guitar or you would know Stairway and Taurus Spirit are not very similar at all once you flesh the entire songs out, Stairway is a completely different and much grander and more effective composition. They have a vaguely similar descending chord pattern in the first few seconds but that's about it.

    I just finished listening to Led Zep 4 ! I would take Rush debut album over this ANY DAY with John Rutsey, who was just as good as Bohnam. Rush was and always will be BETTER MUSICIANS than Led Zep. Even though humble and influenced by Led Zep. Rush knows deep inside that they blow these song stealing basic blues Rockers away on a GRAND SCALE !!! Led Zep Is GREAT but RUSH is LEGENDARY !!! No comparison between the two !!! RUSH RULES !!!

      Bullshit. LZ were every bit as creative as Rush. They never stole anything anyway - blues tradition was built on reimagining old songs, coming up with new arrangements and new takes on the old standards. LZ were masters at doing so. BTW, John Rutsey really wasn't great - unlike Bonham and Peart.
