My older sister would watch these shows, dress her son and daughter like this and have their pictures taken professionally. I think she felt they were the next Donnie and Marie.
@@lorildiamond4987 Sherwood Schwartz who created the Brady bunch, said that he could only watch 30 minutes of this before he turned off his TV set . From Ms. Harper Stacey.
@@harperstacey9604 thanks Stacey, , good to know. I actually have seen Maureen McCormack singing. She wasn't bad and so pretty. I watched the Sonnyv& Cher show growing up, they managed to pull it off w/o all that cheese. I also have to tribute the Jan in the spoof movies, thought she stole the show, hilarious!. I was a kid but i remember all these "variety shows" and loved them. Most people did. Donny and Marie and Cher were two others. Pure cheese but who cares. Its THE BRADY,S. Night of 100 stars were pretty awesome too. All of hollywoods greats on one stage.
I wasn't sure either, but I see someone else identified her as Melanie. I remember her for her big hit, "Brand New Key" back in the early 70's.@maidahaltrecht6577
I loved Maureen/Marcia's long bob she wore after the original show and going into the 90's specials. Her iconic longer hair that she brushed 100 times never worked and looked like a bad wig.
Was so happy when I heard the Bradys were coming back -- and then I watched a few minutes of the Variety Hour and never watched it again. Maybe if it had a couple of songs built around the old setup -- including the classic set (which was most likely gone), it could have lasted longer. But really, another season of the classic show -- with only a couple of musical episodes would have been my preference. Still, it's a nice bit of nostalgia as long as you don't take it too seriously.
During the broadcast of the variety hour it was viewed to be "corny" but time has passed and the nostalgic presentation of the variety show is now viewed in favorable light. The cast and guest lineup will never be duplicated.
At first I thought the Brady Kids doing "Live and Let Die" blew my head off, but Rip Taylor magically appearing with Rich Little and singing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" really did the trick.
You can blame the Donny & Marie Show for this and the curiosity of the American viewers who wanted to see what the Brady Kids looked like a few years after the cancellation of the Brady Bunch. One of the highest rated shows of the entire Donnie & Marie Osmond series in 1976 was when a few of the Brady kids guest starred. America tuned in to see how they looked and of course the suits at ABC thought that meant America wanted to see another Brady Bunch Show. Only they got it all wrong and came up with this musical version, that only the most ardent Brady fan could defend as good.
America always embraces another look at the Bradys, but they've never had a comeback vehicle as engaging as the original series -- until they rebuilt they rebuilt the house interior on HGTV. Barry and Chris have a podcast talking about the show that is also a blast. The Variety Hour, though -- a one-hour special probably would have done okay. A whole season of this was never going to make it.
@@landreauloverThey did have the right vehicle to catch us up on the Brady kids and what they looked like was the 1981 Brady Brides. That should have been a one off show, where we get to see Marcia getting married and ended it for good there. But of course they ruined it by having Jan marry in that show as well and having Marcia marry a goof ball like Wally? Highly improbable.
I really do think Christopher Knight is one of the best people in the World. I just wish that I could have met him and been one of his Best Friends in life.🎉

Ok. It's cheesy and awkward. But it also is goodnatured, lively, costumed to the hilt and totally over the top.I hated it then. But now, it's just what we need in this dreary world.
This is better than anything that’s been on tv before or since!
I love their costumes! They are always so well-matched and they have really pretty outfits on this show.

Two things...How did this end up in my suggested videos and THANK YOU TH-cam! Life was so simple then.
Id still rather watch this than any of the Kardashians or Jenners.
@Kat E. - Ditto
I agree hundred percent with you the Kardashians just plain suck
just love this just pure magic
I would pick this over Family Guy (even the 2005 resurrection).

Anne B Davis, it's a good thing to remember them with. 😇
The ironly. Robert Reed would storm off the set of the Brady Bunch because he thought the show was so dumb. But he liked doing these shows.
Now that is funny
Wild1995 brought out who he was , that’s why he liked it
No offense but gay people like this type of show biz, of which Reed was.
I’m curious, if he was in need of cash and appreciates a certain type of acting, why didn’t he focus on that? Age? A project simply handed to him?

Supposedly, her first date with Barry Williams was to go see 'The Who'..
