OMG I SAID THE SAME THING IN MY HEAD... all you really needed to get right was the eyes and mouth!!! haha. That being said... I still don't want this set.
For real! They could have added some depth to the background to make the woman pop out a bit more, but all in all the painting itself is quite simple! And exactly, considering what else we have available to us from LEGO, it's tough to put any art set in the NEED-TO-BUY list nowadays!
I'm not sure how well that would work considering the face of Mona Lisa is probably her most iconic aspect! But that's an interesting thought and I wonder how some variations would have affected the general reception of this set
@@cpafol Ya its really just personal preference but to me, I only find it weird because when I look at the mouth, its just 2 lines which kinda look like a minecraft mob mouth print. Also the eyes look like Egyptian hilogriphics in a weird way and it doesn't really fit for me. The overall build imo is great which is why I'd say Id rather have it blank or if the face print had more detail it would be better.
@2Horrible Art is certainly subjective! But if you do choose this set, I imagine you could swap out the printed pieces with the blank Mona Lisa skin-colored pieces! But your comment on the Minecraft mob is killing me, why'd you have to put that in my head 🤣
Some painting are more difficult to represent than others especially thoses showcasing a face!! There are many abstract paintings that they could recreate as lego like « the scream » and « The persistence of memory »! More abstract paintings are far more easier the recreate in legos and for the love of god please add a minifig of the artist!! I would love to see a leonard de vinci or a salvador dali in lego to add to my collection:)
I do agree that The Starry Night painting is the PERFECT painting for a LEGO set! Largely because of the ability for it to be multi-layered, but this set was always going to be different. LEGO wanted to keep it simple, because after all the Mona Lisa is a simple painting, and they did just that. Art is certainly subjective, and this is no different!
I imagine this is a set that will sit on shelves in low quantity and slowly trickle out in a steady manner. It being up for preorder will certainly give LEGO a solid idea on the quantity of sets to be purchased. Fun fact, there have been 200+ bought on Amazon in the past month! Also, the thought process that "some things just don't need to be made" would certainly kick out several existing sets! That's the joy of LEGO; sometimes they make a very wide variety of sets that aren't for everyone, but people out there will certainly buy it in varying quantities! Something for everyone!
I will, it’s literally an art piece. Every set is an art piece. The real question is, do you want this art piece? Every man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

I actually really like it. From far away it doesn’t look great but the closer you get the more I like it. As an artist I consider this a piece of art.
Getting an artist's weigh-in is always welcome! Like you, I think there will be a steady flow of sales on this set as it catches people's eye!

I think Lego got too confident after the Van Gough set success. But trying to replicate a portrait of that magnitude was a big mistake.
