- More than 3 million ring lock folding knives are sold in the African Continent every year. These highly functional knives are owned and carried by people from every walk of life and are the go-to every day tool for almost every conceivable task. These versatile knives have stood the test of time, they have been in-use continuously for centuries and with good reason -- they work!
Cold Steel's President Lynn C Thompson has long admired these knives and has seen them put to great use during his many visits to Africa since the 1980s. Now, we are proud to offer our interpretations of these enduring ring lock folders that we have called the Kudu and the Eland, and we are going to go "out on a limb" and state -- these are the best folding knives in their price range in the world!
Both the Kudu and the Eland feature highly rust resistant and beautifully mirror polished stainless steel blades that are expertly heat treated to offer an excellent balance between edge holding and ease of re-sharpening. Their glass reinforced Zy-Ex handles are not only attractive (with a wood grain texture and polished silver embellishments) but they are incredibly strong and durable.
Amazingly lightweight, versatile and functional, and affordable on almost any budget -- the Eland and the Kudu represent a new standard in low cost, high performance folders. There is simply no excuse not to buy one today!

Greatest EDC beater knife ever made
it is awesome tool, I have it for long years for cheap, it is used all the time and still looks like new one
I love my Kudu's although I discovered them late. I wish they would bring back the Eland!
I own a Kudu, and I have to say I think it's a great knife, especially for the low cost ! Ok, it may not look flashy and expensive ( which is fair enough as it isn't expensive), but it's an excellent working knife that you can use hard and not worry about.
its cus looks like old Okapi knife
Yes awesome knife EDC 👍👍👍👍
Didn't have one in my collection so I just picked up the Kudu Lite for under 10. It's a great knife for the price. That's one of the many things I love about Cold Steel, no matter what your budget is, you can find a blade to match it. You would be hard pressed to find a knife this nice for under 10!
Ain't that the truth.
Ahoy Curcio, where are you from? I am genuinely interested.
@@junichiroyamashita I live in Georgia USA
@@williamcurcio7367 because,i have your same surname, but i live in Europe
@@junichiroyamashita my family (Curcio) is from Italy
It’s a shame they discontinued the Eland. I bought one for my nephew for his 18th birthday and I kinda regret not getting one for myself. I’ve been carrying my Kudu for 6 years now and it hasn’t let me down yet. Hopefully I’ll cash in on an Eland one day.
@mikeday66 i can't find one anywhere! and they're even getting their listings taken down
Please bring back the Eland
My eland is my favorite knife. It makes me sad it's no longer made. The kudu is a great knife too.
I love my Kudu, incredible knife for its price!
just got a kudu today as an xmas gift- for feeling like a cheap piece of plastic in my hand the lock is strong and the blade is sharp for such a cheap little knife. thanks for getting me my newest knock around knife!
The Kudu is a great knife and amazing for the price. I don't even mind using it with food since it cleans up easily. I even used it to carve the Thanksgiving turkey since I didn't have any specialized kitchen cutlery. Looking to get an Eland to compare.
For the money it is the best knife buy around.Sharp ,light and very strong...what more could you ask for
Had this knife for a week and I adore it can't stop playing with it but come on @coldsteel when are you going to do an XL version like the espada make dreams come true it's what you guys do 🙏
I would love to see a 3 inch blade version to complete the family! Call it the Impala
For 2020 they released a slip joint version. It the same size as the Kudu, which is too bad. The slip joint should have been 3". That would have been awesome!
Just got myself a Kudu today. great quality for the price. great video as well.
just got my kudu at delivery service, it reminds me the no name chinese knife i bought in the end of 90s somewhere at the chinese flea market in the chelyabinsk city, ural, russia. i used that knife for years but had lost it in the middle of 00s. it had wooden handle, unknown strange steel on a blade but it never failed me. it's kinda like i have that my knife again but on the next level of quality.
Just bought a Kudu. Awesome work guys, keep it up!
+csknives As a plumber I need a good work knife, I am buying this knife right now.
Cold Steel where can I get a kudu in Qatar ?
Why i love CS knife, its cool and inexpensive also you guys always answering ppl question!!
holy shit i love my Kudu so much after 2 years, filleting fish, cutting steaks, apples, oranges, potatoes, tomatoes, feathersticking, shaving off wood for fire starting, cutting rope/paracord, cutting medical bandages, the lock is so strong and the handle feels cheap but it's so sturdy
for 10USD it's been a hell of a knife, came sharp out of the box and 4116 is easy to sharpen in less than a few passes on medium grit stones back to a utility edge and takes only a few more passes on fine stones after that to get it back to fillet knife sharpness for fishing
BRING BACK THE ELAND and make a little brother called the Springbok
Eland is awesome!
I bought both a couple of years ago and I love them. That being said I have never been able to get them factory sharp again.
Keep practicing!
just bought 2 kudus and a eland, thanks CS!
I want to see hard tests like this on the new liner locks on Crawford 1 and Medium Luzon.
I own a Kudu : it's really a great knife. Incredibly sharp, good knife. Just a question to Cold Steel or customers : on my Kudu, there is no oil on the mechanism, only some white grease or rub. Is it the normal thing, it's ok ? All the Kudus are packaged this way ?
I love my Kudu (current edc) and plan on getting an Eland while they're still available on the secondary market. Since the Eland is no longer in production, I think it would be awesome to experiment with a smaller model in the 3.25"-3.5" blade length range. It would be incredibly easy to shorten the Kudu design down to meet those dimensions and would open it up to a wider market where blade length restrictions are a problem.
My older brother’s first Cold Steel knife was an Eland. It cut well but he didn’t like the knife too much due to its low quality, mainly the ring chain locking mechanism. He soon replaced it with a Recon tanto
the best cheap knife ever
Amazing!
bought one of these expecting cheap shit. it's actually good.
Please make some more Elands!!!
Espada, Kudu, Eland, and Gladius Machette are the Best.
I have it..Thanks mr.Lynn...
I like the kudu but I don't own one wish it was serated but I am still thinking of buying one. Got mine a week ago got 2 of them cold steel tough love this knife.
I wish they made a carbon steel option similar to the Okapi but better with the Kudu handle. And bring back the Eland. Im want one
I'd definitely buy a premium kudu in carbon steel.
this design comes from spain they call it NAVAJA that kudu knife looks good thanks 4 sharing : )
Holy shit it's better than my original Okapi Knife from CAS Iberia
Sry for asking, but what is the main difference between Kudu & Eland? They look very similar.

Now it needs a little brother! :)
BRING BACK THE ELAND!
superb
Okapi 907 is the legend
this model tested in the video, is it 4116 or 5Cr15MoV steel?
best damn buy out there
1:07 Robert knows where it's at!
If you work the rachet on the Kudu back and forth and get a decent knife oil or even some WD40 you can get it to pop like a Buck Knife.
How many times did he go on the sharpner before this video
Ok cold steel I've bought many of you're knives as well as this one and i've got a question........ How the fuck did you make such a good cheap knife
Has cold steel ever produced a straight razor or a butchers knife they would both be great!
So, how about Kudu from CTS-XHP?
Eland, probably, the best everyday folding knife ever. Size, price, form and weight. And this knife not produced more... It's very sad. Best regards from Ukraine.

I love my Kudu knife. I really don't know that you can get a better blade for the money.
opinel for example
comprei o kudu muito bom
:) I bought one today!
Are there plans for doing these in CTS-BD1? Not to replace but to make a more high end version?
The current steel is good enough, I was just curious. Thanks!!
Oh by the way, I saw pictures of lock problems with the eland on your forums. These were non existent on the kudu. Is that fixed yet?
Guus de Jong I agree it would be nice, the current one and steel used is fine for its role as is but after using it i am a HUGE fan of this design and use it as an EDC for all the things you normally carry a pocket knife for. At least for myself i wouldnt mind paying a bit more to get more, better blade steel even just AUS8, better feeling handle material, maybe some aluminum liners etc. all as a different option in addition to the current offering
I feel this is a really good design that it is a shame it has no more advanced "premium" option
+Chris DiDomenico An upgrade to AUS8 would be nice but that would probably put the knife at the $15 price point and to be honest I wouldn't pay that much for this design, as much as I enjoy it as is. A more EDCable size (3.25"-3.5") would be a better modification, in my opinion. I feel like the locking mechanism, while effective, has clear limitations (slight up-down play in my model) negates any need for beefing up the knife's strength with liners. By cutting it's size down to a more EDC friendly length it would be better suited for the light duty task it is designed for and be legal in more locations.
check out the cold steel broken skull its basically the premium version of this
Is the thing on the hand grip removable
what is the best method to resharpen the kudu?
Best value knife in the world? I think so..
Agree, you can't find another knife for price of a Kudu that has the same quality of materials, construction, and performance. No way, Jose!
How strong is the lock on this? Is it stronger than the lock on the voyager?
Are there agents in Egypt? please reply
I own two kudus I trim my beard with it sometimes
не дорогой и злючий нож, как оказалось )))
I don't get how sharp it is
Awesome knife I got it on time $19 CDN then it went $26.99 and now September 1 2019 SOLD OUT on Amazon Canada 🇨🇦...Can You believe that shit???
DTL It's excellent,I keep it in the kitchen, good for food prep and easy to clean,no rust since it's stainless German steel,if you can get one,get it, you won't regret, just watch your fingers 🤣
how do I sharpen it?
what watch?
What is the diffrence between the "Kudu" and the ''Eland"?
InflatedNugget eland has be discontinued and is a bigger knife.

👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
Куду - нож хороший, но механизм его закрывания (с оттягиванием кольца) весьма неудобный. По этой причине не пользуюсь им, положил в ящик стола
Где можно купить????
Mhy my kudo is not sharp?
I should have grab it well it was only 11.99 on cad amazon
that ring is ridiculous though.
MLG dankmaster feathersticking
what is the name of the technique you are using when you slice the shit out of that cardboard target?
I thought the knife was fantastic, until I saw that ring thingy - that really seems annoying ! One of the classic locking systems would have made this knife a LOT more popular.
FlorinU well it’s based off the okapi knife from South Africa hence the name “kudu” a type of deer like animal in Africa.
So this one must not of passed the lift test
These tests are fun to watch... but the most important test is not on any of these videos. Knife buyers are not as un-informed as before and we demand better steels and heat treat. Who cares if you can do a pull up on a knife if you grind isso poorly off centered or the HT could of been done better in your oven, Tacticool is cool but function will take you into the more pockets than ever.
***** I would like to see your knives being offered in a variety of steel.
opinel for zombie-killing
Cold Shit!

Ost? 😂
WHY DO THESE KNIVES HAVE A PULL RING STYLE LOCK?? seems so bizarre, is it a legality thing? you said these are popular in africa, is that because other locking knives are illegal?
No it's probably a unique lock
Но где гарантия что для демонстрационных ножей не используют более качественные материалы ?)
Эта не Россия
Magic tricks. The spine wacks and the weight are done in an illusion fashion. They edit between cuts. This knife is crap.
That knife is sharp, but it's a piece of shit and it breaks super easy. I bought five of them in the past year to practice Piper, but these are junk.
