    He ha .....finally found an off the shelf rig for my cargo trike trailer , 9 kmh is fast enough for me ,
    that's about the max speed of my self built delta cargo trike , now I'll be able to go off road camping . The trailer is about 8 feet long with portable head and serves as a tent plaform . With a couple of these wheels I could make the trailer bear proof which will ad weight giving the wheels more grip ......thanks for all your efforts and time

      You know what a lot of people in alaska do to keep bears out of their cabins is a bunch of sheetrock screws threw a piece of plywood and leave them under every window and in front of every door ! The black drywall screws are super sharp! I would space them about 2” apart ! Maybe to save weight and for camping something similar that rolls out? Like some kind of plastic or carbon fiber!?

    I remember 15 years ago when folks ran metal gears in the BMC and MAC hub motors, really noisy, so your gears lasted but the clutch got destroyed, good to see they removed the clutch in this because that wouldn't have lasted for the same reason, really nice idea, may be a market for ready made barrows, if you don't "Luna" Barrows will 😜 great stuff.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Quite a surprisingly large number of "ready made" electric wheelbarrows have already sprung up on the market just in the last 2 years and I expect this will continue to gain traction. The Makita is one of our favorites (other than the slow top speed), but for similar reasons to ebikes we think that there will always be a retrofit / DIY market even when there are lots of turnkey's available.

    That’s awesome and ill be getting one ! But the one thing i have always wanted besides a wheelbarrow with a motor is a small machine with a small scooper bucket to move dirt, rocks whatever! One that moves with hydraulics that could be used to actually load the wheelbarrow!

    Hmmmm how much weight can you put on that wheel? I’m thinking about what I can use to build a game cart to carry deer out. Is there a way to wire 2 wheels onto one control so they could be used kinda like a moving dolly/hand truck kind of a rig?
    Never mind, $700 CND? Heck no.

    Can you show more about the control by end-user pushing (pulling) the barrow? I imagine one mode could work like a 'hover' board, with the tilt controlling drive, but obviously there are many situations where tilt has more to do with navigating hills and bumps, so manual throttle would be needed?

Please see my comment there re: my project Twitter @eMULE for a bicycle-style but super high-capacity powered cargo trailer. Maybe you can help me find/develop or find a contact at Bafang or elsewhere, to mount a wheel motor on standard independent-suspension trailer spindle/axle assemblies.

    is this hub motor wheel drive able to lift too much weight in the slope or inclined ramp ? is this produce that much torque while lifting something heavy

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It can generate about 50-60 pounds of pulling thrust, which translates into a pretty steep ramp incline with any typical load that you have the muscles to lift in a wheelbarrow.

For example if you used it for a home construction project, it could have a high chance of encountering loose nails.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard of a jockey wheel till now with a quick search but yes that is exactly the kind of low speed and high torque area where it shines. The differences to this over the commercial powered jockey wheels is that this wheelbarrow hub is probably a lot faster and has a larger diameter for rolling over bumps, but it probably doesn't have as much pulling thrust. So if those are the attributes you want it would be a good bet.

    Can this work with out a fork style axle mount? As in can it be used as a wheel that’s mounted on just one side. I want to build a small electric quad for my daughter and am wanting to use something like this for the rear wheels. She is still young and not the best driver so I want it to go slow but I want it to have enough torque to get over most obstacles or climb hillside as her skill level increases. I don’t want the rear axle to be a solid straight shaft locking the wheels together and I don’t want to mess with a differential so I figured two hub motors for the wheels would be ideal but most of what I can find will be too fast and have no low end torque.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nathan, it's certainly not designed for single side mounting. For fairly light loads you could get away with this just clamping the one axle on the cable side, but not for anything that needs to carry any substantial weight.
      So if it's just a small quad for your daughter and her weight is split across two motors on either side it will likely hold up fine.

  • @gotparkinsons1302
    @gotparkinsons1302 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    can this be adapted to use on a trike? possibly as an assistive device?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, if you could modify the trike to use a custom fork with ~155mm dropout spacing and 12mm dropout slots then it would be work fine, assuming that you really don't need more than ~9kph speeds.

    • @gotparkinsons1302

      i have parkinsons but have been riding a trike for 10 years to keep moving. i currently have one trike operative w/motor. i can see the potential for a low speed adequately powered "add on" so i guess an easily adapted possibly portable setup would be difficult to develop?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can run the motor as slow as your motor controller allows, some controllers do have a motor stall timeout if the erpm falls too low. Each motor axle can easily support several hundred pounds.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the bike version needs to have the clutch since it has thrust bearings to deal with the axial thrust of the helical gears on the rotor and planet gears. If locked the clutch and put torque on in the other direction, then the axial thrust would be in the other diection and the rotor and planets would bottom out.

  • @ejonesss
    @ejonesss ปีที่แล้ว

    couldnt you design the motor core to be an outrunner so the magnets would not fly off if it is powered by 72 volts.
    outrunners have the magnets on the rotor like most ebike hubs like the direct drive and the bafang used by rad.
    inrunner is like what the bbshd and cyclone uses where the magnets and rotor is inside the part with the windings.
    it would be nice if you could design a wheel that would work on appliance dollies

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but this isn't our motor design, it's Bafangs. They took a great inrunning motor core (same as the G310/G311) and greatly increased the gear reduction to the hub. Even if the magnets were better bonded and didn't come off at 72V unloaded speeds, the hysteresis and eddie losses of the iron core would cause the motor to overheat at those RPMs even if there was no load on the motor at all.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, but most boat trailers are 2 wheels, so there would be a steering moment on the trailer unless you had a 3rd wheel upfront (like a trike) or ran dual motors as the two trailer wheels

    great so overvolting a Wheelbarrow is out >:)

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mean, technically running them at 36V is overvolting by a factor of two as they were engineered for use at 18V and 4.5kph moving speed. You can in principle disassemble the motor and reglue the rotor magnets with a higher temperature rated adhesive, and then it is possible to operate at even higher rpms. We used to do this frequently with the ebike motors.
