  • Pandit Jagdish Prasad was a Kolkata-based Hindustani classical vocalist of the Patiala gharana'Panditji hailed from Raigadh in Madhya Pradesh though he later made Kolkata his home. He began his initial training under his father Pt Badri Prasad, a court musician going on to become a disciple of the legendary Patiala doyen, Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan.
Panditji had tremendous control over both melody (sur) as well as rhythm (lai) and could effortlessly perform both serious khayal and lighter genre of Hindustani music like thumri, dadra and tappa.
Panditji was blessed with a sunny personality and a quick wit. He enjoyed making fun of everybody including himself. He never indulged in politics and did not have a commercial outlook, which made him a very low profile person. Content with very little, Panditji could perform even if he had missed his food or sleep. He was happy in his own world and would perform to the tune of listeners rather than hold out for the money being offered by the organizers. He would sing for free in the most uncomfortable place for a good listener.
Though Panditji hailed from the Patiala gharana, he sang in Purab style with equal prowess.
