Olympic cannot be hosted throughout the country , only a city has to be chosen. For example in recent Olympics cities like Tokyo 2020 , Rio 2016 , London 2012 , Beijing 2008, Athens 2004and Sydney 2000 hosted it . 👍🏻

Closest city is kolkata with so many football and cricket clubs grounds , yuva bharati and eden gardens and maidan as well as all the swimming clubs and nearness to northeastern players and oriya players. No other city in india comes close. But do u think the current gov at centre will allow an event in kolkata. It doesn't send a dime for wb(just look at budget ) let alone allow wb to hold the olympics. Most important kolkata wont be able to afford such event .Most likely it will be ahmedabad , delhi or mumbai. We shouldnt host it thats clear.

If you look at the history of Olympics .. every time Olympic was loss making for the host country so we should focus on developing good infrastructure for sports and focus to produce more better atheletes for Olympics and other events . Look at the Asian games china won 300+ medals and we've just 100+ . If you carefully notice chinise have most of the gold medal among their total medals but in our case we got more bronze than gold. So we should focus on this things. We need to support other sports need to build coaching centres and infrastructures for other sports which are less known in our country.

Chinese did it back in 2008 and India doing the same because we will be at the same level as Chinese within next 2 years when they hosted for Olympics back in 2008.
You have to understand that hosting an Olympics is a loss for any country. It's not hosted for profitability. It's hosted to promote athletism. As north America, Japan and Europe has been hosting it for the past centuries, it's now our duty as Asians to carry on the tradition as we are reaching the capability to host them(economically). Europeans and north Americans could also stop hosting and use the money for their people but they didn't do it. They hosted it when others couldn't and now it's our chance to return the favour.

You cannot boost toursim if it's a one time investment. Tourism in India is exhausting enough, it takes a lot of time and paperwork for foreigners to get entry into India and the local transportation and hospitality sector must deal with hundreds of different Indian and foreign cultures and etiquettes all at once. And it's moronic to think that it'd do more to bring attention physically than digitally in this era.
The only way to generate revenue is through the sports themselves, not the people attending. The dozens of sporting grounds need to be actively used well after the olympics ends.

@@Shadowcat561 because I highly doubt there would be enough aspirants playing softball and lacrosse for the government to justify keeping large stadiums and their upkeep. The stadiums would likely have to be repurposed for more popular sports like football.
