  • Here’s a common occurrence when your threads are breaking on a plastic shrouded machine.
Wherever plastic occurs, problems are usually close by.

Singer has a new Black plastic mechanical sewing machine - the HD500 Classic Sewing Machine. It is just a $179 machine that other brands have sold for years but Singer puts it in Black with a goofy shape and charges $350.

They hilariously call it heavy duty sewing capable.
I pity the folks who believe the hype and end up with that hunk of “plastic fantastique”.
And yes, it looks ridiculous. 😂

I have a One Plus and have never had any problems with it. I do baby it and use my mechanical Kenmore for heavy duty sewing. But it does have lots of good features, many beautiful stitches, easy buttonholes. I like the computerized automatic settings for each stitch--it takes a lot of the hit and miss figuring out each stitch. It beeps at me if I do something wrong so I can fix it. I wouldn't recommend it as your only machine, but it's a great addition to a mechanical machine that just sews straight stitch and zigzag.

It is a workable backup machine, or maybe even a travel machine.
      It’s not exceptionally heavy.

My guess is that the repair cost more than the machine. Garbahhhge.

Walmart.com has them for$232.22 plus freight charges.
So, for almost $300 you will have a fragile machine that will annoy and disappoint you.
The folks who take the time to find a nice 15 class Kenmore 158 series, front load machine, are ahead of that game in price and durability.
Somewhere down the road, the classic machine will be the best option, if there’s still one available.

Interesting video, Randy, however I find it sad to see how quality and performance is a thing of the past.😢 I cherish my 2 vintage singers.

@@shirley1413 I’m with you on those sentiments.
The makers seem to be more concerned with freight costs and damages than they are concerned with machine quality and durability.
The two concepts are mutually exclusive.
I encourage folks to get a vintage machine in person, test it if possible, and take it home.
      Thanks for watching. 😎👍🏼

Sounds like a pretty useless machine. 🤔

There are better choices for sure.
Whenever someone says that a machine is useless, I have to remind them that a doorstop can be useful in a steady breeze. 😎👍🏼
