The name YANKEES🧡 started because of the many dutch🇳🇱 immigrants living in new york (because they founded the city) and a lot of dutch peeps had the surnames, jan and kees, so in english it sounded something like "oh you, Yankees" as an insult, but they took it with pride. and thats a brief history of the Name Yankees, for new yorkers (and sometimes northeners)

It’s more of a name we’re called by foreigners, we accept it and use it sometimes, but I’ve never heard someone use it seriously, especially by a southerner. Although I have had Europeans call me a Yankee though.
Southerners are also Yanks as Americans but not as Southerners, historically it was mainly the White Anglo Saxon or northern European Americans that were called Yanks, as they are the dominant group.
