I haven't tied one of these yet, but have done similar. I'm guessing he removes the front hook because some places don't allow 2 hooks in a fly. With mine, I expect to keep both hooks unless there is a reason not to. I don't think it will foul much with the line in the rabbit strip. RIP Norm Norlander!
Mr. Norlander, I was with you right up until you removed "the rest of the hook so it wouldn't foul. Wasn't all of that tied to the hook? If you remove it won't the fly fall apart? I know I am misunderstanding. No-one would make so beautiful a leech pattern and cut the hook out rendering it spineless! Please explain. (I just bought your vise today and can't wait to get it.) No, you clip of the part of the hook that you didn’t tie on where the hook starts to curve.
