Did this announcer do any prep at all? "You guys are awesome ... you've definitely brought the best capes we've ever had at the studio here... what is that instrument that is blowing my mind? Did you make it?" "Its almost like a lyre." "I have never heard Ethiopian music like this before." "Do people like you in your home country?" "Is most Ethiopian music about love?"
Hehe. Tbf, I think hosts sometimes must feign ignorance a little bit to prompt basic information for the benefit of an uneducated, unworldly audience. This channel and the coastlines are obviously very hip and appreciate different things. Most Americans definitely have not heard of the krar. We're not bad people, it's that our media and govt purposely misinforms or leaves us in the dark.
I always wanted to know how that was played. Really impressed.
thank you for singing and playing the krar so well Happy Easter to you God bless you and family amen
Mark Speer anyone ?
Many thanks for inviting those beautiful Ethiopian!!!
You guys look and sound amazing. Thank you for blessing us all with this performance!

delipark Its a krar or kirar, its a type of lyre, I enjoy the instrument I have tried it before its amazing.
Statoil, delipark knows that. He was commenting on how unlearned the KEXP announcer was.

I think the capeverdean Batuku came from this (first song). It's the most similar rhythm that I've found.
WOW WOW WOW
gnarly
Nice song and
krar
The female vocalist sounds slightly off-key. Is it supposed to be that way? Is it a microtonal thing? How do they tune the krar?
No she does sound of tune. If they had a good vocal this would’ve been so much better
👌❤

Beat too fusion .....far from the original .....slow it down a little n catch it right.
Unfortunately, not for me.
why?
What the fuck instrument is the guy on the left playing?
Krar
A krar !
Just listen to the first conversation they have at 6:55 or look at the title of the video. You can then google unfamiliar words.
Steve you should have a little respect, it would make you look like less of an idiot.
This is so embarrassing. The guy is making feminine sounds which is unheard of in Ethiopia. I never heard any man say elelelelele in Ethiopia.
You don't know what you're talking about everyone can do the Arif. If you've not heard it you're most likely not Ethiopian
So what?? Time to evolve
@@makkonen0 tbh tho he got a point mostly women say it
@@makkonen0 he’s right tho, in Ethiopia or Eritrea men shouldn’t elelelele 😅 it’s for us women
@@user-po4dv9sp3n Are you habesha even? Have you not heard Azmari music? It's called an arif.
beautiful music
