    I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the detailed simulations of the 'bus in MSFS and X Plane 11. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

    self confessed and unashamed MSFS fanboy here. holy heck i'm impressed. the ground handling looks so real, that plane looked really heavy when you were taxiing to the runway, i could feel it. and the atmospheric lighting looks pretty incredible. i'm almost solely a vfr pleasure flyer, in real life and in the sim, so MSFS works great for what i want it to do. but the bigger boys who love pressing buttons are getting a great sim which will only improve as 320SP says.hopefully the 2 sims push each other to great things. i can't wait for MSFS to get some of the handling characteristics ive seen so far from XP12

    • @wootle
      @wootle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you said is exactly how I use XP11 and MSFS. I use MSFS for low and slow and jump to XP11 (will move to 12 when it comes out of EA) for the tubeliners. As you said the "feel" it is just right.

    • @iain8837
      @iain8837 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the ONLY reason I use XP11 and hardly ever go near MSFS; the taxiing, ground handling on TO and landing, all feel realistic, the aircraft feels like they have mass and momentum, in MSFS, once you get to 10ft above the ground, you don't really have to do much, apart from try not to be so heavy on the rudder as the nose goes crazy!

    when i flew the default a330 i was very pleasantly surprised! imo the best default airliner to ever come out of any sim, if laminar chooses to complete it through and through (i've heard that there will me a custom MCDU on full release) we could finally have a really good default airliner

    Very good overview. Great to hear opinions from a real world pilot. Your testing seems very thorough and your explanations are very clear. Thanks! As someone who has only ever used MSFS, it's interesting to see what X-Plane can bring to the table. It clearly excels when it comes to physics. I really hope MS/Asobo can improve the take off, landing and ground handling because that seems to be the worst thing about MSFS now.

I guess I'll have to take time and configure it properly in order to get a real feel for it. Looking at the demos it looks very impressive I must say.

      It's not that straight forward since aircraft maker can tune their aircraft. Hard to separate the aircraft model and sim model. Although iniBuilds A310 is releasing for MSFS later this year. This could eliminate the aircraft factor since now you have same aircraft for both sim.

    • @greenesyt563

    • @EverydayNormalGeek
      @EverydayNormalGeek ปีที่แล้ว

      Yesterday I was running MSI Afterburner on 12. It seems that a single core does most of the work still. The usage of other cores has climbed a bit compared to 11 but not significantly. I maxed out all the CPU bound graphics and the total usage never climbed above 20%. I hope this will be improved in the future.

    Really excited. Competition is a healthy and good thing 👍
    I don’t have the budget for another sim right now, but if this helps push asobo/MS to further develop MSFS and compete, that’s great!
    I really like the rain and the physical aircraft modelling. Stuff to work on for sure but when your older XP11 mods get updated and brought over, it’s guna be insane. Xplane will surely benefit from the fact that there is an existing active base of devs ready to work on existing aircraft?
    Sure the world graphics aren’t as good as MSFS but if it’s smoother and a good sim overall, I’m all for it 👍

    For me the X-plane 12 is a bit of a disappointment. I used to have around 40fps in X-plane 11 and the Tollis A319 loaded with graphics set to almost maximum. Barely got 20 fps with a Cessna in XP12 with settings close to minimum. I do hope Laminar is working on some serious optimisations and brings them asap, otherwise this was a waste of sixty bucks...

      People will tell you MSFS is better or X-Plane is better, but I think it is far more important as to what your goals are. If you like seeing reality out your plane window, then I think MSFS has X-Plane beat for ground scenery. MSFS probably still has an edge for sky realism but it is much closer (X-Plane 12 is a definite improvement compared to X-Plane 11). For most flight sim enthusiasts, I'd say if you already have MSFS, then adding X-Plane probably isn't worth it unless you like to support flight sims in general.
      If you want to practice emergency procedures or are possibly building up to a FAA certified sim rig, then I think X-Plane might be the better choice. For people who are going for their PPL and being able to run different failure situations in the safety of a sim where the accuracy of their response to the situation is more important than the graphics outside, there really is only one choice right now. If Asobo ever goes through the process to get MSFS approved by the FAA, then the situation might change. I don't think most flight sim enthusiasts are in that category though. For those who already have X-Plane 11, being able to carry most of the planes you have already into the new version (although there might be a upgrade charge by third parties) is also a factor that might help some.

      I fly the Piper Warrior IRL and the Just Flight Warrior with MSFS feels damn near close to the real thing, especially when I strap on a VR headset. Visuals are nothing to scoff at when it comes to immersion. As for handling, it really is good enough. You'd never get the real feel of an aircraft with your little desktop yoke and rudder pedals, no matter what sim you use. The real Warrior is physically demanding to perform a power on stall or use larger rudder deflections, and the hardware I have feels so damn light and floaty in comparison. The best thing you can do is adjust some sensitivity curves to get a better "feel" more than anything.
      Not to mention, MSFS does use Computational Fluid Dynamics which is in fact better than X-Plane's Blade Element Theory. The flight model is there, but it's just a matter of aircraft developers deciding to take advantage of that and being able to tune it to better match real world flight characteristics. But, it is still a new thing that came out in SU9. X-Plane has the advantage of many years of aircraft developers tuning their products to X-Plane's system.

    XP is the third player behind P3D and the current leader in flight sim MSFS. Likely to stay that way with XP12.
    The old chestnut of the flight model being better in XP is old hat. The coding behind Blade element in XP and boundary element in MSFS probably gives MSFS the edge on the ability to create better flight dynamics than XP.
    Devs like Fenix, PMDG and potential others for GA will take awhile to refine the flight model in MSFS, but they are not working at any disadvantage to those in XP.

      The over saturated scenery of MSFS has annoyed me for a long time, but you can fix that with alt z, which opens up the GeForce experience game bar. From there, you can adjust the color of the the sim, and make it look more realistic. If you’re referring to the way that aircraft fly, (eg. the 172 Skyhawk feeling as maneuverable as an f-18) there’s unfortunately no fix for that. MSFS is prettier, and X-plane 12 is a real sim.

    The A330 is a massive disappointment. In fact everything is apart from the clouds maybe and the flight model. But interestingly there are so many just way too noticeable bugs even for an open access version. So why did they release it now? Why not give it a few more months? The only reason I see is they didn't want too many more people investing in MSFS because once they have they'll be much harder to get back. This essentially proves they know they can't compete with Microsoft and this is a desperate attempt to keep some of their fanboys with them for a bit longer.

    Sadly it looks like modded X-plane 11. Nothing groundbreaking. Too bad because I hoped for something with MSFS2020 graphics (real terrain, cool weather), better ATC and X-plane physics simulation. For now it doesn't meet any of these requirement. Also Microsoft and Asobo are really active with MSFS updates (they also prepare free anniversary update with new planes and so on) so Laminar Studios won't be competetive to Microsoft with this product...
