This Inside The Vault Walk through and Behind The Scenes making of apostrophe 50 may very well be the Creem (pun intended) of Vault Video Walkthroughs showing Tape Formats and Elsewhere. Every aspect of this video promo shows a production standard of the highest level. While previous videos taken in the original vaults at the Zappa home atop Laurel Canyon showed additional formats up close, its fair to say in the collection of these vault walk through videos, we not only have a wider example of formats shown but a detailed look into some of the archive aspects of production. Imagine if you will this model used for each release, where fans get this close to the tapes, flat file drawer contents and all the finer details of the vault we have not had a chance to see yet. While many of the final productions of archive vault releases have delivered lots in that displaying of tape and tape boxes realm, yes a detailed analysis of vault releases has many layers of such but to see how it lives in the vault, the vault videos in all their radiant splendor, WOW ❤ Team Zappa ❤ Goodnight Donovan wherever you are.
We are very fortunate that Frank was so meticulous in his work habits and record keeping. It would be great to have his entire collection of data, digitized and cataloged for future Musicologists and Researchers to study Franks working life. His body of work will become of great interest to Historians in a number of different disciplines, as the years go by.
Awesome...thanks for the behind the scenes tour! You're a lucky man to have that kind of access to the vault of vaults...but I can tell your enthusiasm is truly genuine and I thank you for sharing all of this...post more please! It was in fact the Ryko-disc coupling of Overnight Sensation and Apostrophe that got me into Frank in the first place, back in the early 90's...so many great memories of absorbing this music and then the rest of his catalog from there (although, I must admit, I still haven't tackled Civilization Phase III yet) but what a treasure all of this is for us Zappa-Freaks
Apostrophe wasn't my 1st exposure to Zappa (think it was Sheik Yerbouti), but it was the LP that made me Zappa obsessed (especially with the Waka/Jawaka=>Bongo Fury period) 🙂

@@sophiafakevirus-ro8cc Why wouldn’t the estate of one of the icons of 20th century music “cash in” by making his music available for people to purchase in the 21st century and beyond. Your comment is inane.
@@DN-jf5qp by making lots of super duper versions of the album they are appealing to those who are completist "collectors". The album was great as it was, lovely portrait of Frank on the front and all the tracks we know and love, it doesn't need special versions. And as for "the estate" of Frank Zappa cashing in, I'm not happy that my money wouldn't be going to Frank for all his work, (the musicians and others have already been paid by Frank). So buying the extra special leopard skin vinyl version with outtakes and special mixes, that Frank didn't want on there, and all the money going to someone other than Frank kinda sucks. Thanks for the amazing inside look! I have a copy of that alternate cover slick hanging on my wall. Would love to spend some days rifling through those flat files!!!
You could spend HOURS showing us around....It looks BEAUTIFUL in there! I had requested a tour, and once asked if there was an area for 'cover-art', and you've answered my requests! Thanks, much!
As a young boy, I first heard Apostrophe on a cassette in 1981. How I got that I actually have no recollection, as here in India in those days, it was almost literally impossible to get any western or rock music unless someone who was into that music would bring an LP from the US or abroad. However in 1994, I was fortunate to work in Africa and was able to get a CD of Apostrophe which included Overnite Sensation. One cannot imagine how thrilled I was. I have treasured that CD since. Thank you for the music Frank..RIP
Thanks, Joe. I appreciate you walking us through production and mastering -- I learned a lot. I live in Scranton, once a home of Capital Records production.
She said her stereo was four-way and I’d just love it in her room 🎶 Looking forward to the Blue Ray Thanks Joe for all your hard meticulous working the vault , keeping the archives 💯👌🏻🎶
Apostrophe, like so many others, hit me like a lead-filled snow shoe. I worked for 30 years in archival sound mastering and preservation/restoration and have worked with the original sound masters for thousands of iconic films, TV shows and scores. This includes the Jimi Hendrix National Anthem and the rest of the original masters from Woodstock. All that to say, I would be in absolute awe just to hold that 2" master for Apostrophe! Thank you Joe for showing us these historic artifacts and thank you so much for your work on preserving this amazing library.
Thank goodness Frank saved and stored all of this stuff. When you hear about something like the multitracks being missing for Permanent Waves, not to mention bands like Renaissance who is missing almost all their multitracks.
I missed my chance to truly experience and enjoy Frank's music while he was still around. I am grateful that it has been so well protected and preserved.
In what Joe Travers and the Zappa production team are humbly sharing with society at large. Joe Travers and Co Inside The Vault is definitively an example of production standards of a most high ambient domain. We can clearly see mass quantities of 2” original multi-track masters, 1/4” original Stereo and Mono Masters of the classic catalog up until 1983, seemingly isolated to the analog master period. This is but a detailed glimpse of the many formats of FZs vaults. Making his way to the flat file drawers each release has all the original art materials for the classic albums during FZs lifetime. Promo Materials, Cover Slicks, Slides, Old Artwork pertaining to various release formats. As Joe brings a sample to Frank Zappa’s original drafting table we see original cover slicks, master slides by Sam Emerson, as this pertains to the 50th Anniversary production Joe tells us how the original slides enable them to get crisp scans for archive and future artwork such as the 50th Anniversary Production. He shows a cover slick for the original proposed cover . Joe shows us FZs phonetic spelling matching on the phonetic writing on the original master tape box and this original proposed cover. I’ll pause here but my text is but a general guideline to the production values that Joe works by. While I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me it’s fair to say that Joe Travers has produced more Zappa albums than Frank Zappa. Each time adhering to the deepest respect of the composer. Outside of FZ, Joe Travers, Ahmet Zappa and Gail Zappa., while a small handful of others have had some opportunities no one has had the knowledge and care that Joe, Ahmet, Gail and Frank have delivered. As uME has enabled productions to have proper budgets we can see how the overall finished work and promotions are of the highest standards. As fans we are living in a fortunate space and time. Where we not only have the deepest respect given to the composers vault but that uME has invested in the preservation , archiving and production of Frank Zappa’s life work. From my perspective the team is giving us production standards far beyond the expected. Thank you uME, Ahmet Zappa, Joe Travers and the entire Zappa production team. Looking forward to the releases, TH-cam and all social media promos , and but also the official Zappa Podcast/ZappaCast. The Deep Dish on this one should be marvelous.
Thank you. It is so great to see all the archival material and what Frank himself looked at and some of the work that went into the album. You all are doing great work. I am 67, and I truly appreciate that before I die, I am actually getting to enjoy all this great music.
Only a brilliant business mind would be able to communicate the amount of information he did, via a sleezy medium like the recordind industry, and keep all his master tapes.
I would watch infinite hours of Joe going through the vault like this.
Joe, 2025 will be the 60th anniversary of Edgard Varèse's passing. It would be a good time to release "The Rage and the Fury"

No. Why?
