I really liked Zero One as a series and honestly Metal Cluster Hopper is probably my favorite suit design from the series. I also like the concept IE a suit composed of/ and utilizing numerous small bots for attack and defense. While fin funnels is a great example, a better one would be the ELS from the Gundam 00 Movie.

This form in my opinion, utilizes the features of Nano armor technology, and as you said bits and funnels from the Gundam universe. Or Reactive Armor for short. This suit responds instantly to the user's thoughts, reactions, and emotions.
