Rivalries : Collingwood - Carlton, the western derby West coast -Fremantle, Sydney Swans - Greater Western Sydney, The two Brisbane sides, but the greatest in my opinion is Adelaide - Port Adelaide.
The ANZAC day matches between Collingwood and Essendon are epic. It's a rivalry that's over 100 years strong. Also check out a 1970s classic movie about AFL called The Club. GO THE PIES!!!
Watch 10 best marks/goals. AFL was derived from a aboriginal game that the games co founder saw as a kid growing up in western Victoria where he was the only white child for miles later he was sent to Rugby school in England then came home a cricketer and worked out the rules with another guy in the 1850's.
Yes, I communicated with a descendent of Tom Wills who was a great ( probably more 'greats' ) uncle to him. The family had a station near Ararat and Tom watched the local indigenous tribe play 'marn grook'.That story has gone down through the family. There is a monument to this at Ararat.
Guys....... Overlay a NFL field on Melbourne's MCG......... ( AFL is played on Cricket grounds ). Just see the field size difference How many NFL fields fit ? ( my guess is 5 with sideline space ) 190 yards long x 160 yards wide is the MCG playing surface.
This isnt the only great rivalry in AFL . Geelong and Hawthorn have produced the hardest fought games in the modern era . When Hawthorn beat Geelong in a Grand final the President of Hawthorn stated that Geelong was mentally fragile against the Hawks . Well the Geelong players made a vow to never be beaten by them again . The video is called the Kennett curse where Geelong then went on to beat Hawthorn 12 consecutive times , many by less than a goal . Those games were brutal but incredibly exciting. Check out the Kennett curse Geelong Vs Hawthorn. A bit like Dale Thommas leaving Collingwood to go to Carlton , Hawthorns Izzac Smith went to Geelong . He won a best on ground award in the 2022 Grand final which Geelong won.
The rivalry goes back decades, and was made stronger in the 1970's when Carlton beat Collingwood in a couple grand finals. Any player swapping from one team to the other would go from a club champion, to a hated individual by the fans. If you're looking for rivalry Matches, check out Adelaide v Port Adelaide.
Richmond against Collingwood. Both are working class suburbs right next to each other. Collingwood is the most hated and always been hated. Before the AFL it was the VFL with 11 teams in Melbourne and 1 in Geelong. When the competition was expanded to include interstate sides. The saying was, "Always support the Victorian side, unless it's Collingwood".
The majority of injuries are soft tissue.I suspect boxing, rugby, pro bull riding and even surf boat racing are way more dangerous.Speaking of which, surf boat racing is a visually spectacular and uniquely Australian sport
I believe there are 40 teams (men and women) playing Aussie Rules across the USA. It is low profile with small crowds and more of a family affair with a BBQ and beer at the end of the game.
You will get hurt, but usually not seriously hurt. You shouldn't need medical attention mostly. Add breaks come after every goal, which can be around 8 in a 30 minute period (the usual length of a quarter)
Sorry guys, AFL wouldn't fit inside any of your stadiums....... The surface is too small.... The circle around the goal area is 55 YARDS from goal ! It is another 50 yards to the centre square.. which is 33 yards square...and repeat to the other goal line.... 234 yards away ! And you could fit a NFL field lengthways along the halfway line and only just cover the centre square of an AFL ground. (And sizes vary that is not the biggest ground)
If you can't get hurt it is not sport. Years ago a player would stick with his team through good and bad years but now they can play for several teams during their career. My team is the Essendon bombers and the team that I love to hate is the Collingwood Magpies and watching them play against each other every ANZAC Day is something special again it doesn't matter where they are on the ladder they are there to beat each other. I have played, coached and been the president of a team of this great sport and had to play two games wearing the Magpie uniform and it feels like you can't wash yourself clean of it.
He says they run a Marathon every game. lol nowhere near it, tops about 15 klm (11-12 miles). Still a huge amount of running but there was some mayo from the American bloke.
Aussie Rules ????? Really again ???/ A rebranded name of Gallic Football ! Before you ask , how long ago ??? First recognisable Gallic Foot Ball Game took place in Meath Ireland in 1670 !!!! A few years before Australia was even settled by the " Poms " as you would say !! cheers !

There's an old joke about Collingwood. You know toothpaste was invented by a magpies supporter as it was called toothpaste, not teethpaste. 😂

It was an amalgamation of various sports including Gaelic Football and Rugby.
The rivalry between Adelaide Crows and port power go almighty crows

This and the showdown which is Adelaide and port Adelaide would be the best rivalries by far

When fights breakout [and it's getting more rare ] the best way for the umpires to stop it is continue with play, stops the fights every time.

USFL is growing fast and has had a competition league of an amateur level for around a decade or so.
There is some teams in the USA for hobby that play and there some matches on TH-cam
Carlton also had an American on their rookie list but didn't play a senior game

Mason Cox is the second American to play AFL. Watch the video Don’t Believe In Never… his story!
Everyone hates collingwood
Just another team to me. I'm Essendon, and like Collingwood it's Carlton I hate

Go the Bombers !!
Nothing like basketball. Try bouncing a AFL ball running full speed .😂
Many Aussies call soccer, soccer. And many East Coasters don't care at all about AFL.
No time for ads then!!!!!
My boys the Carlton Blues and a respectful hatred I have for Collingwood Magpies is beyond understanding
Joffa!! Seriously!
He says they run a Marathon every game. lol nowhere near it, tops about 15 klm (11-12 miles). Still a huge amount of running but there was some mayo from the American bloke.
The game is soft as fuck now. You get 9 games suspension for calling someone a bad name. 😂😂😂
C'mon guys. Good health care? Even the girls play down here.

You're wrong
@@AndyFNQ84 Oh okay ! Im wrong despite giving you some facts ! Your a star !
Sounds like your bitter and twisted that Gaelic football doesn't have the same following as the AFL and all your best players switch to AFL
@@johntaylor6654 Thats really funny !
Thanks for that !!
Our game is better, suck eggs!
