    There's about 83 hoppers on that train just passed at 3:05. If you're at Maitland Station when one of these rolls through, by the time the locos hit East Maitland Station, the last hopper will be just clearing Maitland, *they are that bloody long!*

    There’s some serious weight pushing them Locos down that grade !! Well done to the driver adding train brakes as well as the dynamics !! Great location and Video

      Thank you Greg. Trains cross each other at the bottom of this grade, so I assume that is why the speeds are kept low , plus it is 2.5% so some serious downhill stuff!! Appreciate the kind comments.
      Gregg.

      Yes Joe, but coal trains get a bit boring and the recent drought has meant there are no grain trains at the moment. But still a good trip !
      Thanks for watching.

    Great video, it’s amazing to hear the coal trains with it’s brakes making a howling noise. Hope you are having a wonderful fall. Cheers from Nebraska. Terry

      We are finally after all these years getting a model train show here in Herington, Kansas. Must be a big deal considering Spring Creek Model Trains is planning on being there!

      Thanks Terry! It is steeper than it looks and I assume the curves slow speeds down also? Nice time of the year here now, just the right temperature!.
      Happy spring to you sir!
      Gregg.

    Those pacific national locomotives were manufactured in the u.s.a.? I never would have thought that. I thought that those locomotives were native to australia.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were made here Joe, but using GE components from the US. They are unique to Australia in their size is smaller due to our loading gauge.
      Cheers Gregg.

    Hi Gregg... you may have said this before but what do the arrows mean ? On the first coal train they were pointing away from that logo and on the second train pointing towards the logo. Is that for unloading ?
    How long will you sit and railfan like this typically .

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jim. You are spot on sir! The cars have to be facing the direction of the arrow to go through the unloader , as it has a automatic opener for the hopper doors. If the train is facing the wrong way, the locos run around the train so it can be pulled through the unloader.
      Depending on the location Jim, having food and drinks in the fridge means I can be there all day !! I was at this spot for about 4 hrs a day:-).
      Cheers and thanks for watching.
      Gregg.

    Hi Gregg what is the the wagon numbers, metreage and tonnage on those trains, great video.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Robert! They run around 90 cars I think at 130 tonnes a car. Varies a little depending on the company.
      Cheers Gregg.

    Coal trains in Central Queensland are also long There electric coal trains and diesel coal trains

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. they are some of the longest Narrow gauge trains in the world...but I still prefer Standard Gauge :-).
      Thanks for watching.

    If it weren't for the trees moving the person watching this video could assume this is a model train layout.

    • @FishplateFilms
      @FishplateFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes , it has that look and would make a nice scene on a layout!
      Thanks for watching.
