There are many words to describe Gregory, but the most apt word, as all would agree, is LEGEND!
What started off as helping his maternal uncle, John (add surname) to write songs, soon turned into a passion and then an obsession, a craze that would later give him a place which no other held in the East Indian Singing industry. Gregory helped his mama in penning down the songs he composed because John did not know how to write. It was here that he learnt to use words, rhyme them, change them, replace them, refine them and upgrade an average song to a prize winning piece. After penning down several songs for his mama, Gregory decided to pick up the pen for himself and venture into the field of composing. He sang his very first, self-composed, original solo, SHENANCHA KIRA at the tender age of 17 when he was just in the 9th Grade at Manori, but it took him 3 long years to bag his first win. He bagged his first prize only in 1971 for the song NIRODH at Kalina. In later years, Gregory also went on to form a solid partnership with his brother, Gilbert. He would compose their duets and the brothers were unstoppable from there on. Bagging one prize after another, they rose to fame very quickly considering that there used to be very few competitions throughout the year back then. People from near and far would attend competitions only to hear his songs even if he was scheduled to perform in the wee hours of the next morning. The metaphors, examples, and personal knowledge which he gained from reading many books, and the skills he acquired from his John mama formed a great combination and gave Gregory an edge which none could beat. One can see this in his countless hits like Asli Heera, Sadda, Kaidi, Father, Parmesor, Mai, Nagapattamchi Mavli, Ghaslelya Payrya, Aatmyacha Izzvat, Asturi etc. Even now, his compositions find praise among avid listeners and regular competition goers of all age groups.
The 17 year old lad who started off in 1968 without recognition became a household name in the East Indian community through his hardwork, dedication and perseverance. This name is Gregory D'souza, one of the greatest East Indian composers and singers of all time!

He was a gem of a person. I missed him a lot. I was listening his songs, almost every day.
Father You have express exactly, that Gregory has left from this planet, but his composition n voice will always remain immortal. He was a disciple of god who proclaimed his message through his every song, he never used a word in his song. Saying "Eelitin boltan ye ka tey". He only used proper eastindian words. Thousands of songs would be less to express his glory. Fr. Victor you have pour ur hearth in this song. I especially applaud for you. ❤ tumhi pun "Manuskiche heray"haa...
