    Kanami the lead guitarist and primary composer said, and I paraphrase,
    ' A solo shouldn't distract from the music it should add to the music'.
    She is such a genius.

      About the audience being energetic. Did you realised there isn't a single phone filming and that everyone is watching the stage. That is apparently usually the norm in Japan. Oh how I miss those days. I eventually stoped working on stage because it got so boring to see a crowd standing still watching the show though their phone. I'm old enough to have worked in the industry for a whole bunch of years before those damn phones became a thing. I guess I'm getting old and grumpy...

    • @akaalexanderking
      @akaalexanderking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm fairly young, but I hate that with a passion as well. I understand if you want to take a couple of pictures, but filming the whole thing?? That's ridiculous

      That show and the one a few months back were my first concerts from them. Shame it's digital only because of covid, but it is what it is. Even without a crowd in front of them, they're giving it their all, and still goofing around when possible, which I love. Ngl when I say these girls have captured my heart. Lol.

    Hi, welcome to the magical world of Band Maid, I'm a musician an old school Rock guitarist and I came across Band Maid in 2017 and the first song I heard was "The non Fiction Day". and BANG love at first sight, these girls don't miss a beat, every single song a Hit, awesome musicians and gorgeous Saki on Vocals. Kanami is one of the most versatile and really good guitarists I've heard in recent years, in fact she's listed on the official PRS website. Misa no comment killer bass, Akane received compliments from Jimmy Page who wanted to take a photo with her... Miku is crazy and brilliant. WOW one of the best bands I've heard so far and live they are even better. you are a guitarist like me, I suggest you "Puzzle" Live I think Kanami does not stop a moment to change and add parts, incredible does not stop a moment "the Rif machine" Bye and have a nice day

  • @falconsooner
    @falconsooner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Perhaps do Play (Live) next from the same concert as Domination and Freedom. Rhythm section is on a whole another level in that song. Lot of good MVs out there but...Blooming has one of the better solos and is an amazing song. But Dice, to me, is the quintessential BM song with a driving rhythm section and a tremendous guitar riff throughout the song. It is the one I use to introduce people to BM. Daydreaming if you want a great rock power ballad with a power but moving solo.
    The thing I like about Kanami's solos is she doesn't shred for shred sakes. They fit within the song and they never get boring. In fact one usually wishes they were long.
    I like the Toys in the attic comparison

    • @akaalexanderking
      @akaalexanderking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly, she doesn't go crazy on technical solo just because she's able to. She just focuses on serving the song as good as possible!

    akane's crazy drumming somehow overshadowed kanami's solo and the slingshot riff sandwiched between them, which is a particularly justifiable reason. but for me, the drum piece and the two succeeding guitar parts are what made this performance so specially incredible. add to that the obvious fun vibe they had on stage, this song makes it so enjoyable to watch and listen to.

    I discovered a lot of music in 2020, and BAND-MAID is my favorite discovery. MISA plays unlike any bass guitarist I've heard before, and I love her sound so much that I switched out my old Fender bass amps for an Orange rig. She also uses an orange For Coat Fuzz pedal that I also picked up, and while I'm not a huge bass fuzz guy, it's a great pedal that I don't always use, but it's satisfying when I do.
    I love this song's upbeat sound, and BAND-MAID is always fun to watch live because they look like they're having so much fun playing and so much fun with each other. They have a core rock sound, but it feels like every song is a kind of Venn diagram where there's influences of punk, metal, and pop with touches of other genres thrown in sometimes. As far a recommendation for these five ladies goes, I'd suggest the live version of "Play" from their official channel. It's from the same concert as this version of "Freedom" and is the song they played right before another song you previously reacted to, "Domination." Here's a link.
    th-cam.com/video/3LxX_t4vg7U/w-d-xo.html
    As far as other bands go, allow me to react to two trios I don't believe you've reacted to before. Sticking with Japan, because they seemingly have no shortage of awesome music, I recommend an instrumental band called Asterism. Their guitarist, HAL-CA, is tiny and I think is either 18 or 19 now, but she's incredible and gives me Vai, Satriani, and to a lesser degree, Dimebag Darryl vibes. The bass guitarist typically plays a seven-string bass guitar, and he's absolute fire, too. His brother is the drummer and is pretty damn. I recommend a live version of "Stars," a song whose ending made my jaw drop.
    th-cam.com/video/LVIJFhF68Pg/w-d-xo.html
    Lastly, I recommend The Warning. They're a trio of sisters from Mexico and even though they're rock, they don't quite sound like anyone I've heard before. While they're all great musicians and the bass guitarist has made a lot of progress over the years, the drummer steals the show for me. She's highly skilled and has tons of stage presence, like I really can't look away from her based solely on how good and magnetic she is. The guitarist is crazy good as well. They're my most recent discovery, but I've devoured their music. I think this live version of "Dust to Dust" from the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles is a good intro. A minor spoiler aout this one: their manager appears on stage at one point and does a spoken word part, and I want to save you some confusion on that part. He comes out of nowhere.
    th-cam.com/video/sNxrcJr4lrw/w-d-xo.html

And Lovebites, because as a player, something technical reminds you that there's always More More More... But what surprised me was how much I love this band Gacharic Spin, and their other band Doll$Boxx (when they add Fuki, the singer of Unlucky Morpheus, you'd probably love them!). They are just good fun, take the technical for granted, then put on some entertainment. But they're not exactly a guitar oriented group; guitarTomoZo is a 5'0" beast, but she knows that her role is as cute alienWitchPirate in pink that does standup comedy, and that playing guitar in a techno pop funk latin dance costumed comedy troupe disco metal band is only part of what she does. But I thought of this track when you noticed the multiple singers. 5 of the 6 of them sing in this song, including the leader multi instrumentalist genius (only vocals on this one tho), the new seventeen year old Hype girl (since this 2019 show she's turned 19 and finished school), the new (4'10?11?) drummer (leader used to be lead drummer), and of course the keyboardist (super high voice), & guitar (a lil squeaky) & virtuoso bassist (yell or rap only). But despite the (less than usual) chaos, TomoZo still gets her chance to shine, just wanted full disclosure that it's not a hard rock band, just a group that uses hard rock (or sax or melodica or rubber bands or synth tracks or confetti) to get part of their point across... Hope you enjoy. Gacharic Spin live "Redline" th-cam.com/video/pW_B0QNy4rE/w-d-xo.html

      @@akaalexanderking You may have heard the term "Vocaloid" before in another context, or the name Hatsune Miku. Vocaloid is the name of the software developed by Yamaha in the early 2000's and is basically a rendering engine, except for vocals instead of graphics. Hatsune Miku is a character created by one of the early adopters of vocaloid, a company called Crypton Future Media. They created Miku to go along with one of the voice libraries they sold and she was an instant hit, with people creating fan art of her along with using her voice to make music.
      That was back in 2007 and she's only grown in popularity. And this is just my impression, but I get the feeling that in Japan, you'd have to be living under a rock to not know who she is. Like if Britney Spears was a cartoon character. They even have concerts with a live band and projections of the characters on stage. I went to one in 2018 in Los Angeles and it was /amazing/ and I fervently hope I get to go again one day.
      However, while vocaloid and Hatsune Miku may be the most well known and popular vocalsynth software, they're also just the tip of the iceberg. There are many different engines out there now, and probably a couple hundred voices at this point. There's even a free engine (UTAU) that lets you create your own voicebanks.
      Oh yeah, and Wagakki Band got their start covering famous vocaloid songs. Anyway, I'll leave you with a link to the video that started it all for me, a bass cover of a song called Alien Alien. Enjoy!

      @@akaalexanderking Okay, just one more from that same bass player because I think it's a better showcase of her skill, shows another way that vocalsynth can be used (really fast singing) and also has a guitar solo that is absolute /fire/.
      Seriously I don't want to listen to the original anymore because her playing is so good. The tapping parts she does are following synth riffs in the original.

    IF you like Kanami's guitar playing then if you haven't yet, listen to 2 of their slower (power ballet types) songs (Daydreaming & Wonderland!)
    Daydreaming MV: th-cam.com/video/RCaeUkrItyY/w-d-xo.html
    Wonderland Live: th-cam.com/video/x4hxLeHbqZo/w-d-xo.html
    Her solos on these two songs are amazingly beautiful surprises in that you don't expect this kind of solo to pop up in these kinds of songs, but Kanami weaves her 'note-picking' magic and makes it feel so natural you wonder how the song could even exist without those solos.

    You've reacted to most of the new Band Maid MV, except perhaps "Different" and before that, "Blooming." You should dip into some faves from 2016-2019 like "Real Existence," "Dice," or the grinder "Rinne." I think you'd like any of those. I love hearing musical insight from perspective of a player-scales, techniques, difficulty, equipment, etc. Especially if you can explain why is so good (or not). Stands apart from less technically informed reactors.

    What I don't understand is the fact that everyone has to always say that it looks like this, it looks like that, it looks like Aerosmith, it looks like Dragonforce etc., I am convinced of only one thing, that Band Maid looks like Band Maid, Lovebites look like Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus look like Unlucky Morpheus etc., when they play they don't think they are who they are not, they may have collaborated or played together, like Lovebites did with Dragonforce in the UK, but that's all, nothing more and nothing less, thanks!

      I think it's natural for the human mind to associate something new to something that we already know. I never mean that in a "they copy this band" way: I see it more as trying to guess which bands influenced and inspired them to start playing music in the first place!
      If someone listened to my band and said that it reminded them of Soundgarden or Social Distortion I'd be delighted :)

      @@akaalexanderking Yes, it can be, but if someone has never heard of Band Maid and then likes it because it was associated with a band of the past that made the same kind of music, you risk not giving credit to the credit, it's as if I liked Cris Botti because when he plays he reminds me of Miles Davis, it would not be fair to both these monsters of Jazz, however it is my personal opinion, of course. 🙏

      @@akaalexanderking It is now ten, fifteen years that Japan has created bands that make music in a truly exceptional way, many, very many, will remain in the Asian circle, unfortunately, when instead they deserve to be discovered and valued even outside those borders, but the others, those who listen, are not always willing to listen in Japanese and the lyrics of these songs are wonderful, like the lyrics of Dreamcatcher, Kpop group, which are wonderful lyrics and not at all trivial, anyway thanks for this exchange of ideas.
