    Unfortunately many people think what you consider fulfilling or real joy is 'too hard' or 'boring' . . . which is crazy! You're definitely an inspiration to positivity scoob. Thankfully I learned this on my own. My father was the complete opposite to 'enjoy the little things'. He always had the pessimistic point of view to anything, 'what if this happened' or 'you know. . . ' When I watch videos like yours I'll be honest, they teach more than I ever got from my own father. I"m also glad you bring civility and common sense to topics people try to politicize. Show's your integrity.

    • @scooby1961
      @scooby1961  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I will point out however that what your father taught you is equally important. Shit DOES happen and you need to be plan for it. I am like this as well and my husband calls me pessimistic, to that I say HOGWASH, I am realistic. Pessimism sounds negative, its not. Being prepared for emergencies is a good thing. To me its prudent, kind of like driving with "one foot on the brake and one on the gas" like Sammy Hagar says, drive really fast but be prepared to stop.

    Scooby, I have been following you for years, but out of all your video’s this spoke to me the most. I feel like I have reached a point where everything feels like a chore, last year I finally got out of that rut but now I’m back. Luckily your video stopped me in my tracks, I have to be looking for the beauty in the world rather than hiding it. I need to make a big change in my sleep, how much I use my phone, and most of all stop complaining about what I have to do and just do it. The belief that everything is so bad is what is making terrible. It’s all about perspective, somehow I forgot that. Thank You so much!!!

    • @scooby1961
      @scooby1961  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THANK YOU! Your offer was EXACTLY the right way to offer advice - you simply let me know you were willing to give tips rather than blurting out unsolicited advice. In this era, everyone seems to think it's their duty to offer advice and opinions - at the gym, in the grocery store, at the auto dealer, and everywhere ... even if they have no credentials or knowledge. By the way, I am not insulting your car washing tips which I am sure is top notch, I am just saying that in general, these self proclaimed experts offering advice at the gym and elsewhere do not have the knowledge and information necessary to be giving advice. In life, there is virtually no situation where offering unsolicited advice is a good idea because if the person wanted it, they would ask for it. That newbie doing endless mirror curls on January 2 is very excited because they just watched Arnold in "Pumping Iron" and they now are an expert on biceps workouts. Any unwanted advice will only insult them and piss them off. The right thing to do is simply to make it known that you are friendly and willing to talk. If its at the gym and you see some clueless person wandering around, simply saying "Hi! If you need help finding anything, let me know." is a great way to let them know you are approachable. When someone does ask you for advice, PLEASE take a moment to find out what they are trying to achieve and what limitations they have before doling out one-size-fits-all advice. This is ultra-important with regards to working out. At the gym, people often make the mistake of thinking that everyone shares their goal of "getting huge" but that is often not the case. In any case, this has got to be the longest reply ever to a TH-cam comment about washing a car, and again, THANK YOU for illustrating the proper way to offer advice.

    I do not usually comment on your videos, but this video is a huge exception!
    This is what separates you from everyone else! You present yourself as both of a Fitness TH-camr as well as a Father Figure! In one video, you are giving priceless straightforward tips on meal plans/gym exercises/daily schedules (like other notably popular fitness TH-camrs) and in another, you are giving incredibly wise and sage-level advice on how to enjoy life without adopting an ALWAYS WORK HARD AND DO EVERYTHING ethic! Many thanks :)
    PS. With regards to your response to the "scooby's last video 12/31/2019", while my heart is screaming "NOO PLEASE NOO", my mind rationalises that this is probably a decision that has taken you a long time to ponder over and discuss with yourself and others. I respect this choice and wish you good luck in your future and much thankful appreciation for all that you have done for your loyal fans throughout these past 12 years! It has been an incredible journey :)

    Meditation has taught me this, it also exposed me to how much life and time we waste fretting over the little things when all you have to do is take a step back and slow down in order to enjoy all the little things in life everyday.....

    i try to be present in the now, but the present sucks most of the time for me lately
    looking at the autumn scenery and smelling the pleasant smell of cold autumn air together with decaying leaves is nice
    i like going to the gym even though i have severe shoulder pain that prevents me from sleeping some times, tried surgery but didnt work (made it worse)
    i like cooking or cleaning my shoes
    some days i can get what i call manic, i want to clean or do whatever productive stuff and i really enjoy it
    other days i know i can do those things and that once i start doing whatever itll probably feel great but i cant even get out of bed
    its not even a question about motivation, i just physically cant even get the energy to do anything else but keep sleeping
    other times i cant sleep for days because my brain says no until my body says yes
    i cant find work, even though every single source in my entire country, be it university, worker unions or otherwise says everyone needs engineers, which just makes me question myself
    i cant get financial aid because im not considered either a student or unemployed, so im about to hit the red
    some dude asked me about donating to a charity today but i told him i literally have no income and that im sorry but fuck that guy
    i tried professional help but i dont think they get how painful it is and they wont help me, and i cant kill myself because too many people will get hurt, so im just stuck living this shit
    23 years old, completely unnecessary and unneeded, and i want to be erased
    we truly live in a society

    The happiest man I've ever met only ever works part time. He might work a full time job or second job temporarily if he needs the money, but he embodies what you mention about lowering your financial footprint instead of increasing your income. "I'd rather have more time to do what I want instead of having all the money but no time to enjoy it." I've seen too many people work full time jobs brag about money, but rarely have the time to do something fulfilling with it.

    I find the best way to enjoy little things is by just cranking up my favorite music and busting out all of my chores at once while singing along and maybe even dance around a bit.

    Some great philosophy Scoob! I admit, in grocery store lines, I just check the phone where it's the perfect opportunity to have a quick conversation with someone.
    By the way, I wash my car by hand as well. I find it very therapeutic. Good to see you use a bath towel like I do....it really is the best way to dry a car. I could never understand those tiny chamois that you have to wring out?

    Even tho I do mediate and try to enjoy whatever I’m doing, at the end of the day I just don’t like most things that much. I don’t want to eat or drink, or clean or study or do any kind of work, or really move at all. Most times it’s hard to even enjoy stuff like video games or martial arts or weight lifting too much, well at least to the point where it feels worth the effort. I do enjoy things, but it just never feels worth living for. And everything takes A LOT of effort on my part, the simplest things. I feel like I give off a positive vibe to others and I make jokes and train hard, im getting good grades, but it doesn’t feel good enough that it’s really worth existing for. I’m not looking for anyone’s help, just wanted to say.

    I totally agree on you on the power of volunteering. But let me add more on that Scoob. Volunteering doesn't necessarily mean assist someone ill, or weak, or old. Not everyone likes to do that and that's fine. You can do something for other as well. You can even help your peers.
    At some point of my life I found myself joining an association that cared about young researchers, being a researcher myself. I really loved how the association worked, I loved the positive attitude of the people in there, and I ended up investing quite a lot of my spare time on it. I got so much back for this investment! I had the occasion to meet countless amazing people and professionals form very different fields and across the whole country. I've organized countless events, that allowed me to meet a ton of different artists as well. I authored a website online. I was also elected in a sort of official political / administrative institutional position. I ended up being invited by politicians of the country's central government to share my work with them, resulting in my opinions entering the public discussion. Everything from an activity I did entirely for free in my spare time after I casually joined a local association that seemed ok to me.
    There is so much to experience if you are just willing to do that.
