Yes, I remember watching The US Soap Opera Guiding Light and they wantd the characters of Olivia Spencer & Holly Reade to be together. The Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler said no. Ironically Maureen Garrett is Gay who played Holly on and off beginning in 1976-2009 is Gay in Real Life and Crystal Chappel who played Olivia admitted to being Bisexual whose Romance with Natalia Rivera played by Jessica Leccia was very popular.
