    For the whining in the morning.. She needs something. Probably some undivided, very present attention. For tantrums, it's so important to not give in and allow them to tantrum out and have their feelings. I learned this when my daughter was about 3-4. One morning at the breakfast table she kept asking for different things and I kept giving them to her. Nothing was satisfying her. A very wise friend (herself a parent) told me to just say no, very kindly. This allowed my daughter to finally just cry it out. I realized that it wasn't about the food - she had some pent up hurts from the previous week and just needed to "vent." In kids, this looks like a unwarranted and very irrational tantrum. It often feels crazy and stressful for the parent! But if you think about it, even adults can be upset and not have a clue as to why, until they analyze the situation and track back to the trigger. This takes a lot of practice and skill even for adults (and often an actual therapist)! If they are acting up/out, there is ALWAYS a reason. It could just be they are overstimulated.. Or perhaps a legit emotional need for connection/safety is not being met, or they are picking up some stress from the parents. A book that really helped me was "Nonviolent Communication for Parenting and Families" Invaluable book.

      I don’t even have children but I’m surrounded by them and this was very good advice! One of the neighbors child is always crying or throwing a tantrum when he has to go to daycare in the morning. It breaks my heart to see him so upset and his parents either ignore him or yell at him. The parents, who are in their 20s are not very present with either of the children. The kids spend all day at school and then daycare, and when they get home, the parents are on their phones, or drinking alcohol, socializing with neighbors, etc..
      the kids get so excited when I pull up into the parking lot. Because I’m nice to them. I play with them outside. I read to them when I’m sitting outside of my apartment. But I’m starting to get nervous that the mother is beginning to resent me because her kids love me so much but she’s always yelling at them.

    Most of my friends and I all suck at responding to text messages and we laugh about it and forgive each other and hangout when we manage to both have free time and the desire to. We are also all introverts and respect each other’s desire to be alone sometimes, or social anxiety fueled quiet. I was perplexed by the whole text message discussion.

      @@HH-gv8mx I feel bad too sometimes…which makes me put off responding even longer. But I do this, but less now than I used to. I’ve found that most people are really understanding. And as for myself, I don’t take it personally when I don’t hear from people for a while. Figure they’re like me. I feel loved by the friends I have, and I think they feel loved by me. The negative space of friendships shouldn’t be the focus, that’s where weird passive aggression festers.

    I can relate to the first call regarding the unanswered text messages. Except for I feel like it’s more hurtful because it’s my sister! We used to be really close but ever since she got married and has kids now she’s really distant. I will text her and then not hear from her For months. Sometimes she will answer right away. Sometimes she won’t respond at all. It’s sad because we live in different states and this year when she came to my mom‘s for Christmas I didn’t even bother going up. I just feel like she’s cold and not the fun sister that I grew up with. And I don’t know how to change that.

    You can just tell her that that's called "gender transformation surgery." That some people where really supposed to be born with different genitalia, but that's very different than not liking some things "about" being a boy or girl. It's a very big decision, and only older people can get this done. This transgender stuff is everywhere, you might have to prepare for this question - it will come back around. Don't forget to consult google! I'm sure there are plenty of resources out there on this for siblings of transgender kids.
    It's probably a good idea to research these major questions and get prepared and to also be on the same page - questions on death, where babies come from, and now school shootings, etc. I so wish I'd had the interwebs when my daughter was little! There's got to be some books written on this topic.. This one looks good: How to Prepare for Unexpected Questions from Young Children. Good luck!!

    I am a notoriously bad texter and ive had a long time friend end our friendship over it. My position on this is that its most likely not personal. I dont think it's really fair to project your insecurities onto someone just because they dont text you back on your timeline. It seems like this person is internalizing a perceived rejection based on an assumption that the time between texts is calculated or that the friend doesnt value the friendship because they have bad text edicate.

    Text girl needs to chill. Every friendship and relationship that you have will be different. She's not disrespecting you. You're expectations and entitlement are way too high. Just because you text somebody back within a specific time frame doesn't mean that everyone has to do what you do. This person obviously doesn't want to have a close relationship with you and is keeping you at a distance. So what? Hang out when you both have time and stop thinking about it when you don't. You're freaking weird and obsessive. Your friends are not your boyfriends. Don't expect so much and you won't be so disappointed.

      @@Daddy.loves.you. I don't know if the "text girl" is being that needy if she gets upset that the friend replies after a month. I've had friends like that and it can be discouraging especially if you've been friends for a long time and when you do get together they are adamant that they want to hang out again soon (i.e., they are sending mixed messages). I've learned though that at some point you have to let them be the ones to reach out first. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I guess what I'm saying is I think she should let this friendship "die on the vine" or at least put in the same amount of time and energy that her friend is putting into it (i.e., deprioritize the friendship). It doesn't have to be in a passive aggressive way, but if her lack of or delayed response is making you upset, it's not worth being upset all the time.

    • @Zvox
      @Zvox 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Daddy.loves.you. i can't tell if you're dumb or didn't actually listen to what she said, or maybe both. there's a difference between being needy and expecting someone to text you back in a reasonable amount of time, and there's a difference between being a bad texter and not giving a shit about you. everybody on the pod sided with her for a reason. she's done nothing wrong.
      i have a friend that, years ago, i only ever talked to when i initiated contact and made all the plans. eventually i realized that it was an extremely one-sided friendship (like with the caller, sometimes he wouldn't reply to a text for a month) and i decided that if he actually wanted to be friends, he would text on his own, and i stopped reaching out to him. we didn't speak for like 7 or 8 years. we're fine now, but we're not even 1/10th as close as we once were. we text maybe once every 6 months or so and see each other once every few years, and it's only fine now because my expectations for that friendship are in the gutter compared to my expectations from my close friends.
      they aren't actually friends anymore, moshe was right. the caller is clinging to the memory of a friendship. friends actually care about each other and prioritize each other's feelings. you getting this defensive tells me that you're that asshole friend.
