I got chased by 4 adelies when I was 7 at sea world, when they got free from their enclosure. They kept biting the back of my legs. It was terrifying. All I got for it was a 20 dollar gift card at the gift shop, I guess so I wouldn't sue them.
I would of been able to outrun them, but I was in the petting area which was confined and couldn't get out.

Linda 9 I think it’s because they trap air in their waterproof feathers. They have 2 layers I believe and they trap air and kind of make their feathers stay down, against their body. So maybe this air gives them the boost or lift they need to speed at the surface of the water at such high speeds? I know I’m not explaining this well or properly, there’s videos on it though. The air part is true I’m just likely not explaining it accurately. You can see this trail of bubbles as they swim toward the surface.
Aerodynamic body shape(or should I say Aquadynamic) allows them to quickly gain speed underwater and shoot upwards to propel themselves out.
It's all about speed. If you swim fast enough, you can make some impressive leaps.
Before they jump they take a quick trip to the surface to trap air bubbles and become lighter. It’s also about speed and a sleek body design 😁🐧
