Unless she makes it explicitly clear to you that she wants you to propose, don't propose in public. Otherwise she'll come across as the bad guy, or feel forced to say yes when she might not want to.

for the proposal one ... if the one being proposed to is shocked, then there's something wrong. a surprise proposal is fine, but the marriage ITSELF is something that should've been talked about or at least been on the same page. it shouldn't come as a surprise.

You're putting your partner on the spot. It might be okay if you already are talking about getting married and KNOWS, as in she told you unsarcastically, that she wants a public grand gesture proposal.
If somebody did that to me I would be MAD. Then again I wouldn’t be dating someone who didn’t know how easily embarrassed I get.

This is one of the less harsh comments I’ve seen on this. All the other comments I’ve seen have just been like “the guy is wrong, he is bad, girl is right, she is good.”
