- Puerto Plata City Guide 🇩🇴 In this video we're heading to the city of Puerto Plata to spend one day exploring with our friends @JumpingPlaces . This is a perfect guide for anyone who wants to know the best things to do in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to spend just one day. Puerto Plata is one of the main cruise ship ports in the Dominican Republic and therefore gets loads of cruise ship passengers almost daily.
In this video we make our way around the city and visit:
Fortaleza de San Felipe
Parque Central
Paseo de Doña Blanca (pink street)
Umbrella Street
While there we have lunch at a beautiful restaurant called Kaffe.
Later we head up the Teleférico de Puerto Plata (Puerto Plata Cable Car) to the top of the mountain. We see some amazing views on the way up of the entire city but it's cloudy when we get to the top.

Puerto Plata is one of the most beautiful underrated city in the Dominican Republic. There is so much to see and do there. I love Puerto Plata. So happy you guys had a great time there. Love the video 👍

That’s right!! Lots don’t know that puerto plata is the mother of tourism in DR. Puerto plata once was the main destination for foreigners and still is. specially for those who knows puerto plata well. Before punta Cana, la romana, Bavaro, Samana and others puerto plata was puerto plata. I believe puerto is picking up again. As they call it in Spanish “PUERTO PLATA ES LA NOVIA DEL ATLÁNTICO “😎🙌”PUERTO PLATA IS THE GIRLFRIEND OF THE ATLANTIC”. 😊

Hey! So Puerto Plata translates literally to Silver Port, which is why the city sign was in silver and not in colors like other towns 😊 Also, to answer Anna's question, the classic cars are not at all typical of the DR or the area, it's a new "tour" I guess for when the cruiseships are in!

I started watching your videos and others, like DR Property Guys right before we bought property and Sosua in 2021.❤.
I am probably the weirdo, but I love the the mountain drive to and from Santiago. Just take you patience. I would love to see you guys do a trip through the mountain and stop and visit the Taino Gardens, maybe and an ecolodge along the way I know there are several ecolodge along the way, and one of the Amber Museums that are closer to Santiago end of the mountain road. I have not been there yet
And I think another fun thing to do in Puerto Plata is to go to the Amber Museum downtown. I just ask everyone to tip their museum guide. I've been there several times, they do a great job.
Also if you find yourself at Playa Sosua I always go to Chulo's and have the whole fried fish I think it's the best on the beach.
And if you want to take a little adventure, I love to go to La Catarina, it's like halfway between Sosua and Puerto Plata on the adjacent road follow the signs... it's out of the way but well worth the while. But it is a little pricey but the atmosphere is what you're paying for. Amazing!!

It was a cloudy, rainy day when we went up the mountain to Christ the Redeemer two years ago too. We're really hoping to get better weather when we go back in January.
It was cloudy at the top for us as well. Not so much at the bottom though 😆- Trevor
The same thing happened when I went to the top of Mount Tai in China. It was sunny and 90° (32°) at the base of the mountain but cloudy and about 60° (16°) at the top.

I live in puerto plata,I glad you guys spent a great day exploring the city, about the luxurious antique cars, those are tours, you can pick em at the ports they drive you around the city and el malecon, about the colorless sign its couse puerto plata literaly means silver port, right there in front of the foretress of san felipe there is a amphitheater, they make pop, folclore, clasical music concerts there but also popular artist presentations, dance routines and people use it to go and do exercise, the little boats at el malecon are part of a old fishing labor union, they have special permit from the goberment them there. about the mountain you can also get in a excursion to walk it down in a hiking group with a guide there are a lot of rivers, springs they also sell alcohol in several places and there are old fashing households so you can see how dominican houses were back in the 1950-60, the trip is like 3 hours on foot but you can also rent a four weel.

P.S.: Creepy fact: In 1992 a flight from Cuba crashed on the side of the mountain. According with the investigation they were trying to take a look at the city before landing. 😓😓

I so look forward to your videos, DT. Just got back from where you had filmed at Coson Beach (spending the winter in LT. The beach is so quiet, I let my little off leash for a bit and she loved it. The cool river water flowing into the ocean is a delightful experience. Btw, when you were in LT, did the motorcyle traffic/noise annoy you? I have been living in centro and I am now moving - crazy.
Coson is so nice right!? The traffic in LT is it’s biggest problem in our opinion. We luv that place but it does get to be too much at times - Trevor

The chocolate factory is yummy too, definitely "Pirate booty". Mt Isabella is usually clear in the morning. Anna, definitely check out Olivia's in Cabarete for the best hats on the Island. Any good restaurants you would recommend in PP? We are going into Puerto Plata to the dentist, supper and check out the Christmas lights today!
I think the other cruise port you refer to is Amber cove which is owned by Carnival Corporation so all Carnival Corp ships go to Amber Cove.

We lslso have the old cars, we just did not use it as an atraction before, but people are asking to bring them out. BUT SINCE WE HAVE MODERNS CARS WE DID NO NEEDED TO RIDE THESE ONES. THAT IS THE REASON WHY YOU NEVER SAW THEN OUT.

Did you walk to the cable car from the historic area Puerto Plata or drive? I am actually going there next week.
How far a walk from town square to the cable car? How long does it take to walk?
Actually, you have the cruise ship ports reversed. The one behind you in the video is the newest one, Taino Bay. The older one, Ambar Cove, is a couple of miles farther.
Plata means silver so it may be why the sign is not colourful like the others.
Is the cable car $10 round trip or one way?
Porto Plata means silver harbor hence the silver cube city name.
