I did it, I love the sound and the actual "grainy" feel of it too now. Seems like I can somewhat feel the drag instead of just hearing it. Fantastic modification, thank you for sharing!
You have done it again Victor, this was exactly the information i needed. On "2021 buyers guide - ultralight reels" video i told you about my European 2020 Legalis LT and that reel don't have ANY cuts on spool for acoustic so the already quiet drag sound of LT reels is even more quiet on that Legalis. You can hear absolutely nothing.. So thank you again maestro for this video, i will tighten the spring just a bit and i will remove a little bit of grease so the trade off won't be that much of a deal
I think theres very few people in the world with the knowledge and attention to detail you have of these reels. Daiwa needs one of you in every department. From start to finish. I think they would produce much better reels.
It took longer than expected to tune in and keep the tail end perfectly balanced not too outside not too inside, finally got the best sound, thanks a lot
This was very informative. I like mine as it is but seeing the mechanics behind the pitch change is really cool. Friction would certainly change how loud it is while it's clicking. I can also see how if you went to far that tip would protrude too far out to clear the rim its made to slide back behind. It would probably pop out of those slots before long. I think it's funny how you have found a way to change that addictive clicking sound we all love...lol. Victor, how funny would it be to mic that thing up and play it over a PA system out on the lake....lol That would be priceless.
This drag clicker system is so much better than the cheap Shimano reels. My nephew used my Sienna and must have got it a little wet in the salt water and the little spring mech on the spool corroded and was not recoverable, I had to cut the little thing to free up the spool. So now its sitting in the rod rack, usable but no audible drag
I just adjusted the drag on my daiwa caldia 2500 following your guidance and it sounds much better now. And yes, there is a fine balance here between the loudness and roughness. I opened the thing too wide at the first try and while it sounded great afterwards, it felt extremely rough. I could feel every click where the metals bit each other. Then I managed to narrow the gap slightly and got the balance right. So thank you sir. You made me a happy man. BTW, is there a way to adjust the drag on Shimano Ultegra reel too? 🤣
Good video Victor.....I am sure you know you can buy an aftermarket setup for that. I thought of doing it at one time but my days of tinkering with reels is over....old eyes don't work as they used to...LOL.
Nice video Victor, I was waiting for this one! I’ve tuned the drag on some of my Daiwa reels. I also stuffed up one or two and ordered spare leaf springs from PLAT. If you’re going to do this I’d suggest ordering a few back up springs in case you get it wrong.
pretty. comfy. but just a normal blank and cheap guides. Im not saying its bad. I love pretty. But don't expect it to feel any different from any other $60 rod in bassproshops
Thanks for the tips Victor, have a ballistic fw going to do knob and spool bearings upgrade but will throw this in the mix. Free play on my reel knob really noticeable you can actually feel it. Any idea on size of handle shims? Going with hedgehog 4 bearing kit. Have to watch your upgrade video again! Thanks and nice catch!
Question: do you think that closing your drag and leaving it like that during storage is harmful? My friend says he opens his drag when he puts away his reels.
if you are a bass angler and you tighten your drag all the way for the crazy hooksets - then i would loosen it up before storing for the winter. The drag discs are either felt or carbon and you are compressing them and then the drag doesn't feel the same any more. But, on ultralight reels, where the drag is very loose anyway, you don't need to do that. I have never loosened a drag on one of my reels for the winter, because my drag is always very lose , even when i fish for carp. However if u fish with tight drag, i would agree with your friend.
@@ifishcatfish thnx for the explanation. I have never done it and I’m not really taking good care of my reels. The drag on my Fbs, FL and Vanford start to “lag”. They sometimes take a swim too. Since the beginning of this year I’m a prostaffer and now I have to start acting as an example haha. Thnx for the info komrad!
@Kolev No, the drag knob and washers and the downforce are the drag system not the clicker pin alone. Nor does the clicker pin have any effect or contribution to the drag operation.
yeah, that precisely is the tradeoff i was talking about in the video. U sacrifice some smoothness to make it louder. If you try this, do not make big changes. Open very little and try it first.
Very excellent video. You can also find steel wire and carefully make your own. Also, your video presages the popularity of some of the tackle you evaluate. It was difficult to find the Legalis after your 1st video. You also know how hard it is to find the UL Presso after its Video. The KUYING TS642UL is now out of stock. You viewers take you seriously. You should do a Let's Go Brandon T-shirt.
The Let's Go Brandon shirt has been in my amazon page for quite some time, i just didn't want to advertise it : ). But i hope people find it! And yes, i saw the rod got sold out. And once again i don't get a dime :) . Thanks buddy
did you use pliers? I mentioned that it is very important to use fingers to the legs of the spring remain straight or round. If there is a kink or imperfection it may prevent the spring from working properly. It is important to preserve the original shape. Still, on a ultralight reel it is unlikely to get a failure.. but on bigger reel and stronger fish - maybe
thank you... shimano and daiwa are just being pain in the ass that's all. shimano drag sound slightly better but not by much. their engineers probably get away easy telling their boss that drag smooth cannot sound good. they should try a little harder.
I did it, I love the sound and the actual "grainy" feel of it too now. Seems like I can somewhat feel the drag instead of just hearing it. Fantastic modification, thank you for sharing!
yes, you can FEEL it. If you want to SLOW the drag, check the ifishtackle antisurge drag grease. You will be able to COUNT the clicks on the drag

I think daiwa is more interested in people who praise the reels they already have : )
It took longer than expected to tune in and keep the tail end perfectly balanced not too outside not too inside, finally got the best sound, thanks a lot
longer than expected indeed. But for 7 years no other brands have moved up their game. Its daiwa and shimano, and the sahara is too deam heavy
Wow dude you are the random TH-camr thats helps in an special problem, the sound is now crispy and nice thx

Yeah, i tried to highlight that in the video, not to go too far..
What is a PA system?
@@ifishcatfish Public Address System it projects sounds & amplifiers them..
I got right to work. Revros didn't need much, but the Exceler saw a benefit in amplified sound. Thanks for the informative tutorial.
Glad it helped!
Just did it and IT works! Better sound! Thanks for the tip!
Just did this to my Fuego and then compared it to my Exceler that I have yet to do. Night and day difference! Doing them both right now!
Perfect!!! Best man on TH-cam
bro on a long life this thing will get quiter because the more it runs and the more it get to it's original form
Awesome, thanks. Minor adjustments are best, “measure twice, cut once” as carpenters say.
Not bulgarian carpenters. Bulgarian carpenters say 'god dammit, 3 times already i cut this, and it is STILL short!'
@@ifishcatfish Haha!! you can get away with telling that joke
A loud clicking drag is nice to hear my shimano saragosa 10000 sounds so nice

This is what im waiting for thx victor 🤟
take it easy with this!

I know... But i tried to say in the video to take this EASY and do very small changes..
You are a drag fan 😁👍
audio. I am audio fan : )
Now the real question... Can you add a clicky to the bail open? A big pet peeve of mine that it's silent
Everybody's got some fetish.. : )
@@ifishcatfish all of my other reels do, just bothers me that my 2 daiwas don't
I would also guess that 300m of braid on the spool will sound different to 200m of mono in terms of notice dampening
Maybe a machine can detect that difference but there is bo way You can detect it
Thanks for the information
Thoughts on the TFO panfish rod? Specially the ultra light models?
pretty. comfy. but just a normal blank and cheap guides. Im not saying its bad. I love pretty. But don't expect it to feel any different from any other $60 rod in bassproshops
What is your thinking on removing the special grease on the felt washer that Luvias has on its drag ,is that a good or bad idea?
bad idea. The drag on the luvias is perfect
Big ups

Bruh should I pick shimano stradic fl 🤔 or buy daiwa reel ? Because my budget range is around stradic fl price
Yes!

Great!won't this tuning stop the rotation of the spool unnecessarily
@Kolev No, the drag knob and washers and the downforce are the drag system not the clicker pin alone. Nor does the clicker pin have any effect or contribution to the drag operation.
stop it? I don't think u can stop the spool. But obviously there is more friction, otherwise you can't make it louder..

It’s just too flimsy to begin with, bad design daiwa .
Its not working on my kix caldia 4000 custom....😑😑😑
how is that possible? If u did it, u have more pressure, if u have more pressure clicks will be louder
