    I enjoy your perspective on perspective. Thanks for showing the examples that help us to see the difference between the snap shot and the photograph that is "a little bit better." You always seem to present such practical advice. Thanks for your efforts.

    This is exactly my problem: impatient companions resulting in travel snapshots. Your video is a good reminder of getting closer or finding other angles without letting your companions wait too long

    As ever, Ray, thank you for giving us these tips on creatively taking a picture....Now, if only I can remember to use that knowledge instead of grabbing a snapshot, well I think I might come back with some good pictures. "it's not what you see, but how you see it"...my mantra.

    Ray, this video is spot on target! When preparing for a trip, I used to get all excited about the possibilities of images I was going to make on the trip. Only to be frustrated and disappointed ultimately. In my experience, non-photographers have absolutely no patience for photography. None.
    I finally adopted an new attitude. Now my plan is to keep it simple with one camera and one lens (35mm equivalent). I try to work the subject just a bit, as you recommend. If I can get some time away from my companions for myself during the trip, then great. Time for some artistry. Otherwise, it's about the trip, not about my photography.
    By the way, I limit my equipment with a purpose in mind: in the continuing battle between FOMO (fear of missing out - not having tons of photo stuff with me to cover every contingency), I avoid the "tyranny of photography": having to haul and fuss with all that stuff, suffer creative frustration and disappointing results, and even being left behind by my fellow trippers. Free at last.
    Your video nicely presents a practical way to bridge the gap above. Thank you.

    A good discourse Ray and a reminder that we all sometimes shoot a little too wide particularly on vacation.
    I often make landscape photographs with longer primes therefore forcing one to isolate a subject.

    Thank you for this! I have a kit lens (which is zoom 16-50mm) and a 35mm prime lens. What do you think I should use more?

    • @VisualArtPhotography
      @VisualArtPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JP. Either lens will work but obviously you have more flexibility with the zoom lens. The idea to fill the frame is easier with longer focal lengths and 50mm is a little longer than 35mm. Good luck.
