I am making a lot of closed lidded jars for gifts. I am doing a lot of collaring in, and this video should save me some time and improve my work. I learned the six point and full choke incorrectly. I rewatched those two parts your demonstrated several times. I love all your explanations about what causes twisting and how to fix it. I learned so much. Thank you!
Thank you for your teaching. I am 85 and still producing mostly mugs. 16 yrs I still need to return to basics. I am still considered an advanced student.
Hey there omg it worked it worked it worked great, so much quicker, made biggest ever bell pot and no ripples in the clay, used 2 kilos of clay my biggest ever pull . Just angling my hand like you said and the six point collaring made all the difference.
I have always like your videos , You take the time to show how things are done in such great detail, not just rambling on to show us that you can make a piece, I just started in 08' and you were /are my inspiration, thanks for the great stuff
Very useful I'm going to watch this again and again and again. I'm from Stoke and I've been struggling to make bottle kiln shaped vases , I think this will help a lot.
@@EarthNationCeramics cheers mate bank holiday here in England so got the kiln on and in the shed trimming pots , just in for a cup of tea , watch your vids then back out.
Thanks. I personally like the amount of scribers I have and the little community I have. Small but strong. But it doesn't hurt for people to share my videos
You are easily my favorite pottery person on YT. Your explanations & demos are so clear and easy to understand for a noob like me, you crack me up, and you've already helped me quite a bit in the first month of my first pottery class ever--yesterday I managed to throw a decent cylinder thanks to your video on that. Finally decided to leave a comment after noticing your shirt in this vid because it's become obvious to me that you're a Mega Man (and retro gaming in general) junkie like me...that figure on the shelf above your kiln was the first giveaway. (Was legit confused for a second, I thought YT's algorithms were playing some trick on me when I saw a thumbnail of a kiln + MM.) You ever think about dressing up your kiln as Heat Man?! 😂 I'm a Mega Man speedrunner (not a great one, mind you...but still better than I am at pottery presently lol). By the end of my current class session (3 more weeks to go), you know I intend to have an E-tank made! From one Blue Bomber fan to another, thank you so much for your content, it's truly appreciated.
Donte, can you talk about your wheel setup sometime. I noticed the rather large sponge on your left between your wheel and your water. Is your table a custom made piece?
B mix is a very standard clay that most people who are beginners use. There's a grog and a no grog version of B mix but I personally prefer darker clays. if you're asking because you might be starting out and you want to know which one I would suggest I would suggest the beam mix with grog as the no grog is a little bit closer to porcelain and porcelain takes a little bit to get used to
OOOO I have always needed an explanation regarding twisting/wiggles inside when I'm trying to choke and/or collar and TADA here it is.
this is not at all what Mistress thought it was but cool!
I love the waist in the pot. Thank you soooo much xxx
“Your moms fav” is absolutely diabolical 😭
Found the video on Tumblr Ahah getting famous there
Dude, you are so helpful, and know exactly what to say for me to understand. I immediately saw a difference in my work following your video.
+1
Thank you. I can watch your videos all day! I enjoy the calmness and the slight innuendos 😂 and learn something at the same time!
Seen the title and immediately went to the comments
So I've been doing ceramics at University for about 3 years now, and you just taught me something new with the 6-point choke. Thanks man

I try real hard not to lie to you guys and to just speak from experience.
I mean, if I wasn't already subscribed, the video title would definitely make me re-think watching. Who am I kidding? I would still click 😂😂😂😂

Awesome video. I had my first try at collaring/choking tonight in class with limited success. I’ll try your tips out when I practice tomorrow.

Absolutely THE BEST TEACHER!!!!
Her: like being choked.
Donte: I'm a potter.
Her: and?
Donte: I know how to choke four different ways.
Her: collar me now!

If you go to the intermediate playlist in my channel we're actually talking about making bottles right now.

Thanks for the tips Donte! I've been rockin' gourd vases lately. It's quickly become my favorite shape to throw. :)
This is a ton of information. Thanks for getting into the details. I’m saving this video for review. I can’t wait to apply what you taught here.
my partner asked me to start doing this but I don’t know how pottery is going to help in the bedroom
Really a helpful and informative video. Thank you.
I’m into that;)
It will be nice if you demonstrate how to throw the end piece. Thanks 🤗
This is so helpful as I have lots of problems with twisting and now I know why! Plus, you said doodoo. 😉
Hi guys, where can I find the thin white sponge that he has on this video? Does anyone know? Thanks
It's a sponge sold by mud tools corp.

What is your favorite clay to use on the wheel? B mix ok?

I don't think this is very "advertiser friendly".
One day, I will throw without a splash pan like you. Until then #muddypants

Muddy pants lol
"We gained a whole inch by only choking one time!"
