- If you're in the Bay Area, come see this 18x6 split-flap display in person at Code:ART - a FREE public art exhibition in downtown Palo Alto --- October 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2021 --- 5-10pm
This display is one part of an interactive art piece titled "I/O" and was built by an amazing team of volunteers including myself, and led by Ben Flatau.

I think this is the largest build of my splitflap project to date! The core mechanics, electronics, firmware, and software are all open-source: github.com/sco...
This is the first large-scale test of the new "Chainlink" electronics system, which is based around a dual-core ESP32 to control all 108 stepper motors via 18 Chainlink Driver PCBs. This display is also using the new Chainlink Base as the central controller PCB, which provides up to 5 high-current power channels (3 are used in this build) with independent voltage/current monitoring and load-switches for fault detection/cutoff.
I would love to see a terminal output on this one
I love this so much. Reminds me a lot of Andreas Gysin's work with custom displays like this. Keep up the amazing work!
All I can say is WOW
0:34 - oh wow... you are/were in my home town. Fun. :)
This is so satisfying
wow! what have you spent ? Amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is mind boggling. Props to the creators!
I'm making one myself, its 25x6 but uses one motor for each row
Well done!
I’d LOVE to see something like Wheel of Fortune on this.
Awesome! What are the estimated costs? 🤔
they sound so satisfying. Good job, Instant sub!
0:38 when de impostor is
That is FUN!
I wish I had known about this when it was on display!
Very nice
is there a build video of this thing or the individual displays
I am in love 😍
Absolute money.
Amazing design!
you're really cool :)
Linux users have just found their perfect display
Do you have a "how to" for this specific config?
I do all my work in vim in tmux in a terminal. I could use this as a display! (Though I'd prefer to have at least 80 x 20.) ☮❤🌈🧘🏽🕉☸☯
how difficult would it be for someone with 0 woodcutting and electronics experience to build one
Me: what time is it?
Split flaps: Five to Ten Pm
Oh I would love one of these #wishlist
ここが京急蒲田か~!
I FUCKING NEED ONE
Is it weird that I want to play a rougelike on this?
I would build one of my own, but I don't have an electrical engineering degree, a PCB manufacturing plant or an industrial laser cutter.
I don't have any of these, but the guide is straightforward!
Imagine playing Tetris on this
use it as a linux terminal
gusts think it a gun
I want to see bb run on this! :D
