This soundtrack, Papillion, Alien, and Planet of the Apes are my personal favorites among the many soundtracks from Goldsmith.

We are fortunate that Jerry Goldsmith shared his gifts with us.

Brilliant score...and the main theme so haunting. Very redolent of the Old West - you can hear the wild and the wildness in every note. Fabulous score - and historically pretty accurate as regards Earp and Holliday.

The problem with real life is there is no background music. Epic score of a violent time.

I have watched this movie on Encore twice in recent days, for both the music and the actors.

The Edge was 1997. I lived in Alaska 16 years, and that theme captures the height and panorama of mountain wilderness like no other - not even as well as Edelman and Jones Last of the Mohicans score.

I remember this movie was on TV some time in the early '90s, and I remember being grabbed by the track starting at around the 6 minute mark, which was titled "The Painted Desert". It made me go to my local record store and order the soundtrack. I listened to it a lot, then gave it away to a friend. I'm glad it's posted here. The melodies still haunt me occasionally, and it's great to be able to check in with the score here. Thanks. :-)

Why composers in this country, since the 17th-18th century, cannot come up with something halfway descent without the aid of making something for the movies? Hard criticism? Think about why the radio stations only play the old masters, unless one or two things from Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and Scott Joplin.
