One of the most touching moments I saw at a concert happened when Karla Bonoff opened for Jackson Brown. She received a standing ovation for this, her closing song and was called back for an encore. Unaccustomed to such a positive response, she broke down into tears.
I’m curious if you know, how did La Charreada become the default track for Canciones de mi padre that everyone reacts to online or tells people to listen to? As far as I know, that album did not have any singles, or if it did, La Charreada was not one of them. So why does that specific one get so much notoriety? I almost never hear anyone talk about the other songs on that album other than maybe La cigarra
Karla is a great songwriter - Linda’s recorded several of Karla Bonoff’s songs, including three on the 1976 album Hasten Down the Wind ("Someone To Lay Down Beside Me", "Lose Again" and "If He's Ever Near"), and "All My Life", a 1989 duet with Ronstadt and Aaron Neville. Bonnie Raitt has covered her song “Home”.
Unlike so many disposable performers today, artists of the 60`s, 70`s & 80`s were making music for the artistry, not to get rich or have their 15 minutes of fame. They were true musicians, with true visions, who had long careers and devoted fans that would anxiously await the newest release of their favorite artists` next albums ... not just some catchy ""song of the summer", where fans are only interested in downloading one or two songs, and then just want more of the same. Past artists liked to experiment and grow with different sounds. styles, genres. They would have been bored just doing the same thing/same song styles forever, or until their fans got bored too, and stopped listening/buying. I love Linda's different styles ... the woman could sing the phone book and make it sound great. In fact one of my favorite Ronstadt albums is called "What`s New", a collaboration with famed bandleader/arranger Nelson Riddle, released in 1983, and made up of traditional pop standards from the 1930`s - 1950`s. Linda said she wanted to rescue these beautifully-written gems, from being relegated to instrumental elevator music versions. Both Linda`s manager and her record label were very reluctant to take a chance on this kind of music, from their client, who at that time was considered one of the top female rock vocalists. They finally gave in and boy did she prove them wrong, with the album going to the #3 spot on the Billboard Chart for 5 consecutive weeks, behind only Michael Jackson`s "Thriller" and Lionel Richie`s "Can't Slow Down". It remained on the Billboard Chart for an incredible 81 weeks total, and was certified triple-platinum (3 million copies) in the US alone, with global sales topping 5 million! The album`s title track single "What`s New" would be great one to start with, if you feel like branching out on Liinda`s amazing and varied catalog. Also she looks gorgeous on the cover, reclining in a pinkish/purplish, lace ballgown. ☮️ Steve (KanTexCali)
There's a song on an early album Linda did and the name of the song is "Birds".....it's a very emotional, sung from the heart of a break up song that Linda puts her soul into. And by the way it was written by Neil Young so check it out.
Linda was an incredible interpreter of songs. Not a writer. It's cool that she chose to showcase the writers on this album. A lot of writers ended up with contracts after Linda did their songs. She helped bring Warren Zevon to the attention of the world.
Generally true, but she wrote some of her songs. In fact, she wrote "Try Me Again" on this album, and I think it is fantastic. She didn't ever perform it in public because it was too personal - it is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard.
Written by the great Karla Bonoff, who does an excellent version herself (with a great solo by Waddy Wachtel). If you want to explore Karla, try her version of the old folk ballad The Water Is Wide. One of the prettiest things you'll ever hear. James Taylor on harmony and Garth Hudson of The Band single-handedly rehabilitating the reputation of the accordian. Gorgeous. I am fortunate enough to be headed to see Karla in concert tomorrow night.
I love your appreciation of Linda Ronstadt. I strongly recommend that you react to her live performances whenever possible. She’s just amazing live. 🌺✌️
Thanks for this. My absolute favorite of all Linda’s albums. I also played Karla Bonoff’s self-titled album, which included this song, until I just about wore it out. A wonderful songwriter. Linda knew how to find the great ones.
One of the greatest female badass rock vocals is Kiki Dee's hit "I Got the Music in Me". Nothing like "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". She does it all - Soul, Rock, Folk, and everything else. Listen to the Live version. It sizzles.
One of the most beautiful songs ever, done so incredibly by Linda. The original, written by Karla Bonoff is beautiful too, and here she is singing background vocals. Linda recorded a number of her songs.
Karla Bonoff was a member of the group Bryndle along with Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards who played Piano and Bass on this. Kenny was also a member of Linda's first group, The Stone Poneys
So beautiful...I can't believe I have never heard this song before...so thank you for introducing this to me. I am so very familiar with her music. I must have been sleeping that year😉 Always love your content and reactions.
Hearing her sing Blue Bayou is nothing short of incredible, the range of her voice was so beautiful and the amazing thing was when she gained a little weight her voice was even more dynamic then ever, thank you Salvo for sharing such a great talent like Linda with all of us.
Beautiful, but sad song exploring the lack of true connection in many modern relationships Of course, this song is from 1976, so things have not really changed much.
It’s a great album, her version of crazy as the first time I heard that song which led me to Patsy Cline’s version, I think A, let’s listen to covers video would be great, the original, and maybe somebody’s remake, if I like a song I’m always curious who did it? Who did it better? Who did it awful anyways always an interesting video.

Linda is a better singer than Karla Bonoff, who wrote and also recorded this song. But I still prefer Karla's rendention with Waddy Wachtel's driving guitar backing, which it gives it more of a rock vibe.
There is a live version of her singing this that is even better than this version. It is part of the live Rockpalast concert from Offenbach, Germany. th-cam.com/video/Wpokrmp_h7M/w-d-xo.html
Just a reminder everybody join me on a live stream this Friday, February 16 at 7 PM Eastern standard time. Hope to see you there!

Karla Bonoff is the best.
Going to see her tomorrow night. Still doing it at 72.
Love Karla so much. She never got the acclaim she richly deserved if you ask me.
We’re here to discuss Linda, not Karla
@@evanhughes1510 Karla wrote the song.
Linda Ronstadt is the greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.

Linda has so many layers that never end. She never wanted to be put into one category.

"Good-Bye My Friend", I believe.
Everything Linda touches… or should I say sings… is golden! Beautiful
Oh, Linda, Linda! So beautiful! I so loved seeing & listening to you!

Cannot wait when you get to the trilogy of 1980's albums by Linda Ronstadt and bandleader/arranger Nelson Riddle.
She knocked it out of the park with Nelson Riddle...just fabulous...❤️🎤🎶

She also co-wrote LO SIENTO MI VIDA. A very beautiful song.
Her recording of Desperado kicked the Eagles' career into high gear.

"That 'll Be The Day" was a big hit from this album. It is a cover of a big hit by Buddy Holly from around 1959.

this was my favorite album as a teenage girl in the 70's
The whole Hasten Down the Wind album is worth a listen.
Find, watch and experience the live version. I believe it was a concert in Germany.
Should watch the live version from her 1977 concert from Atlanta, She is usually even better live
Killing it on Linda. Need to react to "Love Has No Pride" Live if, possible. That's truly Prime Linda.
Another great song by Linda... great reaction, too. Have you heard of or reacted to La Charreada? It's amazing. Such a talented woman.
Yes he did
Ok, darlin', I love this album. Very moody. And her voice. Man.
"That'll Be The Day" was the hit single off of the album and be the one you'd be most likely to hear.
