I have a Blue Dunn fly, I bought at Gemco in roughly 1976, I'm STILL fishing that same ass fly! it was in one of those old round divided plastic cases that are sectioned like a pizza. It held a blue dunn, royal coachman, mosquito, a bee and some other yellow fly. I still have three of the set, in my collection of hundreds of flies. The blue dunn used to be killer on crappie but no crappie in my area for about 3 decades now. Weird, bluegill have no interest in it.
Thirty years ago, I picked up two matching ugly stick combo sets. My uncle was visiting Maryland from California. We went out in my boat into Chesapeake Bay. I still have them stashed in the garage. Wonderful rods to fish with. 🛥
I still remember the Kmart commercial for them, they showed them being beaten and battered. rolled up window on the tip, sticking out the boat and getting snagged on the garage door as the boat pulled out, and they played the old dun, dun, dun dun dun, tune. Ill try to find it.
Every time I make the drive out to that old tackle store, I imagine myself as a kid, bunny hoping up the curbs, jumping off the driveway sides like mini ramps. Going around the bus stops, pulling out my Thomas Guide to see the way. Noting each interesting place on route, scanning the people ahead to see whether I see any shady ass foos to cross the street and avoid. Points of interests, such as storm drains, minnow filled ditches, frogs or crawdads, railroad tracks I could later locate on my T.G. and see if it was possible to jump a train up my way and hobo ride down to my destination. So much went on between point A. and point B. that to experience this on your own as a 8th grade boy of that era, it something that fills me with great energy, happiness and wonder every time I recall it. There were no cell phones, I didnt have no stinkin debit card, no real funds to speak of, no water bottle cage on a bmx. canteen baby, strapped to my belt. Thomas guide, sandwich, a ding dong or twinkie in my backpack and peddle my ass across the land. TIME OF OUR LIVES!
@PHARRAOH ... That's freekn AWESOME. Kids nowadays have no idea what a Thomas Guide is, if you asked them... they'd think it was an app. HAPPY THANKSGIVING...
Very nice. I’ve been getting back to my roots of fishing the last few months feels good. We should plan a couple day fishing trip soon. This is Chris Campbell you got my number.
Nice I have the KENCOR model sp4-2v 4’ 1-4 line. MAGNAGLAS made in California, USA. Bought it from Turner’s and signal Hill when I was going to Long Beach city College for welding way back in the day.
Yeah, the guy made them in a storage unit, i watched him wrapping one for me. He was one of the first to use Fugi eyes. Towards the end. He was selling off tons of blanks. I see them for sale on ebay now and then. Last time I saw an SP3, it went for $400! Super rare rods. In the parking lot of that Turners, used to be a Thai teriyaki place, 5 star. The owner use to deliver to McDonald Douglas when I worked there. So many memories attached to that c area! I still frequent it, and Turners to this day. I guess I'll never be able to let go
@ yes sir my stomping grounds for 45+ years. I have that little Ken core sitting right next to me only been fish twice and its whole life meant priceless to me. I plan on taking it fishing here as soon as I get my license.
see the details for info
