- Vienna Wildlife Photography Vlog: Wild Hamsters, Ground Squirrels, and more!
In this video, I take you with me on a 4 day trip to Vienna, showing you the urban wildlife that lives in the city, including the wild hamsters that are thriving in the Viennese graveyards, and the endangered European ground squirrels (otherwise known as souslik). This was my first trip to Vienna, and it is safe to say that I need to go back again soon!
A big thank you to Yasmin for taking me to see the ground squirrels and shooting a couple of the behind-the-scenes clips of me with them. If you would like to watch her film on them, you can check it out here - www.yazzellis.com/ground-squi...

Thank you for visiting Vienna and showing our nature!
Wow! I live in Vienna and I see these humsters everywhere. But I didn't know they are endangered species! Thank you so much for your work. I really enjoyed watching this 🫶💕
If you listen closely at 2:47 you can hear a Common kestrel shouting in the background. That's most likely why the hamster disappeared, they see them from quite far away and are very quick to hide (for obvious reasons). Vienna has a pretty health population of falcons, including Peregrine falcons and you can occasionally spot larger bird of prey as well.
I just spent 14 minutes of my life watching a vlog on squirrels, hamsters, etc...never in my craziest dream did I ever think I would do that! Such amazing work! You're the best Roxy! 😊😊😊
Haha thank you! Hope you enjoyed it! I had no idea Vienna had quite so much wildlife to see either and I only saw a fraction of it
the ground squirrels are SO COOL
They are sooo cute~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
Thank you for watching!
The Ground Squirrels are such amazing little characters. Fully understand how difficult it can be to remember to vlog whilst your taking images it's always a difficult balance especially if like me the photograph comes first. Great video Roxy, thanks for sharing, cheers Keith
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and can relate to the difficulty haha!
Roxy I truly love your videos and the quality of the content that you share with us. You are an inspirational person and watching what you do makes me want to do it myself. Thank you for this Roxy 😊❤
Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re feeling inspired to go see wildlife for yourself too :)
Now that's the kind of wildlife I like - cute animals (no horrible spiders and slug stuff). The hamsters in the cemetary (didn't know hamsters could live in Europe and eat candle wax?) and those cheeky ground squirrels (sort of meerkat-like). Great job.
Haha cute animals are definitely most people’s favourites. Spiders have their place too though! All are special and unique :)
I love the serene vibes of your vlogs.
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoy them
Just discovered this channel, thanks for doing this, few get to see what you are filming. This is a nice relaxing and informative video.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
This is such a wonderful video, Roxy! I love it ☺️🙏🏼💚
Thanks so much Dan! I’m glad! So great to hear from you 😁✨
Us two at the start of this!! So cute! ❤
Amazing!!
Thank you!
Cool - looks like fun photography 👍😀
It is! My happy place out with my camera
Brilliant vlog. Who knew cemeteries were a great place for spotting wildlife. Did you have to get permission to film/photograph there? Fascinating that the Hamsters eat the candle wax to sustain themselves in the harsh months. Also the ground squirrels were amazing to see in that capacity, could tell you enjoyed that experience, but then who wouldn't, lol.
No, because I was just there for a holiday / fun, not for work. There were lots of other photographers there too :)
Thanks a lot for this amazing content
So nice of you, I’m glad you like it!
Really well made video and enjoyable to watch 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm a beginner photographer based in Vienna currently!!! Have made several trips to the Zentral Friedhof to capture deers and squirrels! Loved your vlog ❤
That is awesome!
I'm also from Vienna and I really love to go to the "Heustadlwasser in Prater". There you can photograph kingfishers quite well but you should bring time and camouflage if possible and need to be very calm and not moving if you want to get a close up shot. If you are happy looking at them with binoculars or more distant shots you will see them at least 1-2 times if you go early in the morning until around 10. Thats when they get less active usually. Also wanted to go to the ground squirrels but I couldn't figure out where they live yet 😅
It is always fun to see your home country from another perspective. I did not know hamsters exist in Austria
Haha got to get out and explore your home more!!
This video reminded me of a show I use to watch as a kid, “The World of David the Gnome”, in the world of small creatures
I’ve not heard of that show, but it sounds great!
😍🐿️💚
🎉❤
Maam your photography and videography are really amazing .anyway Can you tell me how long you have been doing this photography ?
Thank you! Yes, I got my first camera in July 2018, so 5 years now :)
6:53. Battle scarred hamster.
❤LOVE YOU MORE THAN ALL THE SQUIRRELS IN THE WORLD❤
❤MOTHER NATURES NEVER MADE ANYTHING MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU❤
Where did you find the ground squirrels? I live in Vienna but i have never heard anything abot the spot where you can find them.
It’s not safe to disclose the location of wild animals online, especially those that are already critically endangered thanks to how humans live their lives. But hopefully if you live in Vienna you can go out on some wildlife excursions and find them pretty easily :)
Its dangerous to watching on your videos 😊
😍😍
