When asked about my all-time favorite artists, Marlena Shaw is always in my top 5 female vocalists along with Nancy Wilson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole (RIP). I have been a Marlena fan since Ratzo and the Ivanhoe in Chicago. To experience her in person is musical heaven. I was glad to hear her cover of California Soul on a Walberg movie 10 years ago and a McConaughey movie 4-5 years ago keeping her relevant and exposing her to a new, younger audience because her talent is undeniable. Did I mention I am a big fan?

I would really love to see a movie about her life, that would be awesome
I just adore her, to death. And my folks were big fans of hers...so that meant, I didnt stand a chance of NOT liking her...because her music was constant in my household. As a little guy, raised in Wash/DC, I would hear her music a LOT on 96.3 WHUR. My guess is that she performed at the old Howard Theater, all those yrs ago..and thats the reason why her music is loved so much in DC..and she used to perform a lot in DC, when she was in the States. She usually ended up at Blues Alley in Georgetown or Constitution Hall. Last time I saw her, was in San Francisco..cant remember the hotel in Union Square, but I barely got tickets, because she sold out in less than an hour. And she was aobsolutely incredible.
Omg Marlena Shaw I love you so much, for over 20 years & I've only seen you once! Please play l.a. again, once we get over this all this corona business, ....
