    Another great video Cody! I love how detailed and thorough you are in everything you do because I'm the same way! I have several older rusty tanks that need to be treated and I'm really looking forward to seeing the end results and possibly trying out these same products! As always, thanks for sharing and have an excellent blessed day and weekend brother!

    Im in the process of prepping my tank to put in a liner. I can get the rust all off, but drying it without having flash rust come back is very frustrating so far. After 10 mins with a heat gun theres plenty of rust thats coming right back. I tried with compressed air too, and still got flash rust pretty quickly. Might try the shop vac method like you said. Maybe flash rust is just unavoidable?

    I have lined a few gas tanks, 2 of them turned out great and I had one that was a complete fail. I should have stayed with the process that work on the first 2 tanks. If you have a system, stay with it.

    Steel wool around the inside of the filler neck! This is the closest area to any humid air on the outside! The air comes in, to replace the fuel consumed, and deposits its moisture right there! It is very important to have a 100% clean surface there! BTW; Use those plastic funell tube thingy, to protect the coating from being scratched when fueling up.
    Thanks for sharing this video! Many tanks will be saved, if people do it this way, in stead of all the other methods with vinegar and citric acid and so on. Phosphoric acid is the treatment that will last over a longer period of time. 👍

    Best Drying device fir me is low pressure paint gun. It's awful as a painting device but it blows lukewarm air at a high flow/velocity. I guess it would be the perfect tank inside dryer!

    i used a tapered cork for the gas cap, when sealing i used WD40 Gel on the petcock screws and fabricated another stopper out of cork for the mainflow of petcock. i didnt let the tank dry completely or i didnt let the rust blast created good enough etching so i am reducing it and am stripping the previous coating. some parts did a better job with adhesion than others so its gonna need another strip and once im finished with that im gonna do the steps again in order and seal it up! i sat with my tank for 2-3 hours with a blow dryer

    Best way to dry is a hair dryer just blowing warm air through the tank.

    Why don't you just hookup your wet-n-dry vac hose blowing in your tank all night instead of a fan.

      I suppose you can do this a few different ways. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just what I chose 🤙🏻

    Automotive "Iso-Heet" in the yellow bottle is a great way to remove moisture from the tank, and it evaporates almost immediately. Just poor it in and slosh it around and pour it out, done in 5 minutes. No surface rust. I used in when I sealed my tank with Red-Kote and the sealer is still perfect 3 years later.

    One of the least looked forward to jobs on any old bike, I'm hoping this clears up some DIY's questions about clearing up those crusty fuel cells.

      Exactly. Whenever I look at an older bike to buy as a project, I take a powerful small flashlight to look into the gas tank. If it’s rusty… I walk.

    What about using some kind of aggragate in the tank while etching? Bunch of old nuts and bolts, screws, etc

    • @qivarebil2149
      @qivarebil2149 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a chemical process only. Those nuts and bolts will only scratch away the protective layer of zinc phosphate deposited by the reaction between the metal and the acid.
