Which one is a better fit in YOUR camera bag??
Got a used A1, happy with it.
I don't need a flagship camera. I cannot afford one either, nor can I truly justify spending $5K or more on a camera. I "suffer" with a couple of A7III's.
@@Nateinthewild I’ve been saving for 5 years for the 1st camera to be announced with global shutter! The iii is my last and final camera purchase. I’m old and retired; and as such, I can’t claim any need, just want. I’m enjoying this new realm of photography.
Having owned the original A1 and the a93 I heartily agree with you. When I had the A1 I loved everything about it but when the a7r5 came out I coveted the improved ergonomics and so I purchased an a7r5 for my landscape work and an a93 for the field sports work that I do. With the a93 I admittedly rarely used the higher frame rates. It would possibly be different if I was doing BIF professionally. I LOVED the ergonomics, the new screen, the pre-capture and the AF of the a93. And I had the a7r5 for landscape work. The beauty of the A1 II is that it has the things I loved about the a93 and the a7r5. 30 fps is enough, probably more than enough, for me. 50mp is more than enough for me - I don't need the additional 13mp of the a7r5. So now I can have all that I need and even want without the occasional complexity/confusion of two bodies. No if Sony would get on the stick and ship my order which I place on 11/25. ;-). (Also, I don't do video and I don't do anything needing flash.)
Bought the a9iii shortly after release and even after the release of the a1ii I have zero regrets about the a9iii.
I subscribed just now because of your rad shirt. 😎🤘🏼
Thanks for the review Nate! I ordered mine last month and can't wait to receive it.
The A9III is a beast in low light and has no banding with LED lights. I still have my A7RV high resolution needs. The A1II is quite literally what the A1 MK1 should have been. To be honest for a $6.5k flagship camera that can’t shoot at least 20fps mechanical for live entertainment conditions is a slap in the face to professionals. Personally Sony still doesn’t have a true flagship camera. If the A9III had a 30mp sensor it would be the sweet spot.l for sure.
For sport photography, I think the A9 III is unbeatable.
I completely agree.
Indeed. The only issue i have is insects and birds due to the lack of MP
Truth
Well presented. People do tend to take slight differences in specs & measurements and exaggerate them perpetually until that’s all that’s ever talked about. In real world, these little differences in things like peak DR are all but never noticed. Cameras these days are all comparable image quality wise, so it’s best to make decisions on other factors
just picked up an a9iii for runway fashion, and a GFX 100ii for portraits! my perfect combo
Great vid sir
Thank you sir!
Nice comparison.. I'd get the a1 II for sure since I shoot mostly landscape. Fwiw, I think the Nikon Z8 and Z9 sensor readout speed might be at least as fast if not a tiny bit faster than the A1/II (but probably close enough there would not be much difference it real world usage). Hopefully we eventually see higher MP global sensors with little to no downsides.
I want the "a 1 11"
Have you ever tried to get a photo of a "Humming-Bird"
Is there a specific reason why most of the talking head clips are just 15 FPS?
The part where I'm talking to the camera? They are 24fps, your connection must be lagging.
@Nateinthewild You can go through it frame by frame. Every frame is displayed twice for each actual frame. If you uploaded in 24p then its 12 FPS. Didn't you notice that yourself?
It's 100% not on my end. I have no dropped frames and as I said, when going through it frame by frame ever image is spread over 2 frames. It also just looks really stuttering.
@Nateinthewild 0:48 that's just extremely chopped up.
@@TheTempic Hmm interesting, it's just for some segments and not others. Seems to be an upload error on TH-cam's end because the export on my computer is not showing that. Hopefully it doesn't detract from your viewing too much.
@@TheTempic I noticed this too. It was super weird at 1440p. I switched to 4k and it solved it. But I don’t know if it was just timing or not
Great comparisons. The thing is, i see used A9iii around $4600 and obviously, no use A1ii on the market yet.
And you didn’t even touch on the flash capabilities of the iii. The iii is the entrance to an entirely new world of photography!
Saw the shirt, instant 👍.
That thumbnail makes a strong case for the A9iii. I shoot a sony A1 and thankfully haven't had problems with rolling shutter due to the subjects I shoot, when it happens with bird wings it hard to tell.
Well hopefully you watched beyond simply the thumbnail :)
I'm more than happy with my old A7R2 😀
I just want to see my dogs zoomies face at 120fps
Purchased the a1 II and had issues with it when using the 200-600g lens. I couldn’t get a sharp picture, excessive noise at any and all iso settings and the auto focus was slow, wouldn’t lock on and had front focus. Lens firmware was up to date. I didn’t have this issue with any other lens I used. Sony just kept telling me that I didn’t know how to use a telephoto lens. Ended up returning it. I’m sure it had something to do with the lens, but for that price, I wasn’t taking the risk!
I thought I was alone in this (with 200-600 lens), but am seeing the exact same problem. I upgraded to 2.0 software a few days ago and it seemed to be better at first, but then took >250 pics yesterday and not a single one was in focus. 100-400 lens was demonstrating the same problem with 1.0 software but I haven’t tried it yet with the 2.0.
@ I’m hoping once I get my replacement I won’t have this issue. B&H took the camera back no questions asked and I will be getting a new one once they are back in stock. 🤞🏽
A1II paper launch, ordered mine 5 weeks ago and still not delivered. When calling the store they say they have no indication of delivery date
Ordered mine early January and I feel like I shouldn’t expect it until March-June at this point. Wild for such an expensive camera.
@@midicronica1 it's crazy, I think only day 1 buyers got it by now
Thanks for info. I do wildlife but cant afford either one of these. Im currently using the a7iv. Do you think with the A1 used price coming down that it would still be a better choice then the a7rv? thks
If you do a lot of action shots like birds in flight, the a1 will be better, if you mostly do still images, you might be happy with the smarter subject detection on the RV
I chose the a1 myself.
Many of my clients complain that the Videos shot with new generation SONY alpha cameras cause more eye strain leading to puffy and swollen under eyes. Videos shot with SONY ZV 1 cause absolutely no eye strain but rest of the newly launched alpha cameras cause severe eye strain. SONY should try to fix this problem. We understand SONY wants its footage to look cinematic but that seems to be the cause of the problem. Hope SONY CORP. takes this concern with good spirit.
Sincerely curious: What do you think is the cause of the eye-strain? The ZV 1 footage is the exact same format as the rest of the Sony cameras.
@@Nateinthewild Seems like slower read out speed of the sensor, difference in IBIS MECHANISM, way the multi metering works, in some models the lack of low pass filter and the phase detect autofocus when used with WIDE focus area are some factors we found were causing this. We also found that the standard knee and the slope settings along with the focus fall off are set in a way to try hard to give "CINEMATIC LOOK" which also lends to the problem.
I’m starting to do sports photography, do you have any tips or info of where to get media passes or credentials? I really want to take pictures at pro sport events.
You have to work your way up, or know someone. You aren’t getting in as an independent photographer.
A1ii has a crop in 4k120 unlike the a9iii
This is not true, the A1 ii and the a9 iii both have APS-C mode for video, but neither of them have it for 4k/120.
My pockets arent that deep, ill stick with my canon r50 for now 😅
11:34 - He bought two Sony A1 II. You're welcome.
Just get a Z9 or a Z8 🤣
Cameras that are worse in every way? Great suggestion! 😂
@@NateinthewildWhaaat? Did Sony finally put Raw and ProRes in these new cameras? - and oversampled 4K from 8k too!?! Wow! My faith in Sony is restored 🎉
