It is NOT a schools job to social engineering society, it is there to provide society with the tools it needs to form its self.
To educate is to expose someone to new ideas, ideas that they never heard of. If they exposed the children to things that they already knew, it wouldn't be an education. To learn about the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution is exposing students to new ideas, ideas that they probably never heard of. You can't make educated decisions based on reality when we are told a bunch of lies. Sometimes there are things that we may not agree with that are still a part of the real world. We might need to teach our children how to discern between what we what to incorporate into our lives and what we don't. I'm not sure that keeping our children sheltered from reality is a good idea. For example, we don't want our children to be exposed to criminals but they need to know that they exist so that they can know what to do if they are in a bad situation. We can't shelter our children from everything but we can help discuss and guide them through the difficult times.
