Hey Mickayla, I asked you to show when you plant your seeds and to take me along the way until it’s time to plant them outside and when you are doing it. I would like to THANK YOU for doing this. I really appreciate it. I will be tuning in to see how everything grows and your greenhouse.
Just started my peppers egg plants and onions! My seeds are in the basement too. On two metal shelves with heat Matt’s and lights. We have a well that runs to a sump pump in the basement and it has a connection where we hooked up a hose so I can fill a bucket and mix in fertilizer before I bottom water. I used to up pot things but it made it hard to judge how much room I actually had, so I’ve reverted to just starting things in the size pot they’ll need before they’re planted out
I have a small yard so I 100% call myself an urban gardener. Last year I got four 4x8 beds from Vego and love them. I grew so much in the beds. so easy to put together and everyone that comes into my yard comments on how nice they look.
This is a very interesting seed starting system. The domes make easy work of watering until the plants germinate, but they will come off as soon as germination happens. I’ll be interested in how your peppers progress using these planters. 🤞👍
I am sooooooo excited to start this season ! I really hope season will be good because in Belgium, 2024 was all rain & gray sky 😢 i barely harvested some salads Finger crossed !!
Oh yes - starting seeds can be fun - it invokes freshness and new starts. Dealing with the seedlings - can - be - let's just say - challenging. BTW, the yellow door background is great. Some may ask why haven't you painted it. Answer - maybe, someday, not on my calendar. The crunching of 'freebie' planters is so satisfying - just so long as it doesn't happen while you trying to use them again for the 20th time. It doesn't fail me to notice, that while they may be 'free' - they're cheap plastic; they break (well, yea), and that plastic may end up in your garden, the compost, or a landfill - ok, end of eco-rant. Potting soil - garden glitter. Well, let's see how the new equipment works out. The product and concept seem fine. Your presentation was - here it is, a backyard demonstration. All the Best - Happy Planting!
The water will wick up the soil if you fill the bottom tray full enough. I sometimes use one of those pressure sprayers that you use to spray pesticides outside
The Vego seedling tray setup looks impressive! We have 3 of their raised beds we used last year and like them a lot. Previously I built 3ea 2ft x 8ft from wood. Still use those too but the Vegos are nicer-looking. Last fall when prices dropped we bought 2 more raised beds. We can share some pointers if you go that route moving forward.
I'm still a ways off from starting seeds so this video is helping to keep me sane for a bit 😅 when do you normally transition from spraying to bottom watering? When they start to pop up? Thanks!
@@clairef6592 once their roots start to reach the bottom! Usually you can start to see them poking out at the edges and bottom, but definitely once they have their first set of true leaves they’ll start needing the bottom watering

I love ALL Calico Cow Acres videos!

Very informative video. Love seeing you so prepared and excited for the growing season. ❤

Looks like a great system.
Invest in one of those handheld weed sprayer tanks that you pump up the pressure and then alley your seeds trays with that, save your hands.
@@leslierubbert7886 I do every year and they always break on me! I gave up on them 😭
Great video, thanks for sharing

@@lesliesmith7312 I’ve tried those and love them - BUT they break every single year on me and I got sick of buying them lol
