If anyone's curious, when he shortens the length before the bends in the copper wires, he's using offsets. Electricians, plumbers and pipe fitters know. You shorten the length before a bend based on how much length the bend will take, takin into account the diameter of the material being bent. The world will miss this man.

Excellent info. Lighting could be better :). Great points about the bend radius. With the help of this video I just made my first 3 clover antenna with the original di-pole that came with my Wizard X220 and old tv coax cable (1mm copper wire). Haven't tested it yet, but I'm still pretty proud of it. Thanks!

Another great video JC. To get the solder flowing onto the copper wire you need to use some flux. $2 from China will give you a container that will last a lifetime. The flux cleans the metals and prepares them to receive the solder. Same principal with solder wick, that is copper braid impregnated with flux. Flux is the solderers friend. Dave

Thank you for making such an informative vid! I've just built my first cloverleaf antenna(minus the sma connector) and it turned out pretty good. The sodder joints were pretty sloppy, but still looks good for my first build. Question concerning the link to the 90 degree SMA connectors...They're not like the one that you used in your video. Does it matter???

I have a question? If you mount the antenna on the bottom (upside down) does it change the polarization? The reason I ask, every time I mount a RHCP antenna on the bottom, I lose gain but when mounted on top ( pointing up, paralleled with RX RHCP) I increase the range. I have a shielded GPS module on top and the FPV RF interferes with it.

Silly Putty, Playdough and clay would be a good option too right??? Also something called Milliput which is a resin used by woodturners to strengthen cracks in wood as they turn it. It's pricey but it dries like a steel without the steel. Just saying. :-) Great video.

If you use wire cutters like that are usually on wire strippers, they'll cut it nice like scissors. The diagonal pliers you used to cut are more of a pinch.

After you make an antenna, I'd like to see you use an antenna meter to test them for accuracy at the desired band. Maybe compare yours to the commercially made antennas too.

Hello. I think the angle is more tham 90 dergees between short ends beacause you want to overlap 17 degrees top parts to lower parts.

Hi Blue Falcon, good video. Cheers. I'm just doing a mod on a Hubsan 501s drone I have to get better FPV and I bought some mushroom antenna (Boscam Cloud Spirit) fitted them and now I dont get any video. I removed the new antenna and fitted my panel antenna back and now I have video.
When I check continuity of my panel antenna its open circuit. (no wores joined)
When I check continuity of the new mushroom antenna... they are short circuited, just like the ones you made. i.e the loop comes out from the centre wire and get soldiered to the shield wire, so at the connector end if you multi meter it you get a joined connection.
With the mushroom antenna I dont get video, with panel antenna I do... any ideas????
    cheers Matt

Is there something one can do to influence antenna gain? Or do all clover leave antennas just have similar gain and thats it? same with linear antennas, can you increase the gain somehow in an omnidirectional antenna?

    52.93mm u say???....gonna have to try one, I've been making them 51.6mm, 2 bends on ends of all 3 @ 12.9mm. Suggestion: Cut a straw to 52.93 or 51.6mm and another @ 12.9mm or 12.8mm
Then just use straw upright, put your wire in,, flush cut, and ta-da, 3 (or4) pieces of wire the same length, then drop the 12.9mm straw over your just-cut pieces, grab wire flush, top of straw with flat needle nose, and make small bend at the 12.9mm on each end of the 3 wires, then roll middles with 18mm round dowel to curve. Then for RHP drop down the right hand side of pre-shaped blades, Left for LHP (Do same for both R &TX antennas), toss the SMA out for the birds antenna, less leakage and less weight, just go direct hirose or ipx Strip 10mm off coax, slide down ground braid and bunch up around the coax, solder the hell outta the base and form a small dish/cup made of the braid and solder, solder your bent down, right hand legs to cup, and the other ends onto center conductor of coax....

hey there! let me point out one thing which that fancy antenna didn't work, its because the radiation pattern that you get out those irregular shaped antenna is basically cutting their own lines of magnetic flux, which is not producing any gain, plus i think you didn't really match the impedance at transmitter with antenna, which is really a very bad practice and who do you just order any material from amazon? you need to consider material parameters in Designing parameters, to get best impedance matching and get the maximum power to be transmitted and get best efficiency ! hopefully you would take this in a learning way and not get offended by this comment! for the next time please try to include material thickness, dielectric constant, material conductance etc in design parameters and don't randomly order from amazon! thank you!!!
