Don’t give up the great fight. You have to be in it to win it. The Kimberly’s look like paradise, so serene n beautiful which is Abroginial’s heritage and pride to keep it that way.
WOW, I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I’VE SEEN THE COMMENT SECTION UNLOCKED. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE THE KIMBERLEYS ARE, I WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT WILL BE RUINED BY SOME BIG OIL RIGS & A HUGE OLD PLANT THAT APPARENTLY WILL ONLY BE A PIN PRICK IN COMPARISON TO OTHERS IS JUST A FANTASY IMO. IT WOULD HAVE A HUGE IMPACT & NOT NECESSARILY FOR THE BETTER. I FEAR FOR THE PEOPLE LIVING THERE.
Those people will never see the money or change in their lives or their generation's to come. The developer has only one thing on his mind BIG BUCKS 💰💰💰 in his pockets.
Instead of destroying what little of the amazing lands we have left, we NEED to invest more in alternative sources. We are intelligent humans and know the destructions are for profit - to feed greed! Keep up the fight!
I feel for the people that have to make this decision. It is easy for people that have basic necessities to go home to to pass judgement on the choices that the people on the other side of that chasm make, me included. I sit here in my Florida home placing a grocery order from my air conditioned living room enjoying a beautiful Saturday off from my job. I am sitting here watching this thinking what a shame to even consider anything that might have even the remotest change of destroying this amazing place! I would imagine that I might feel differently if I had children that I couldn’t feed or get educated, much less run down the street to the doctors office if they were ill. I pray that a solution can be found that meets both the needs of the aboriginal people and the preservation of the land.
As a Queenslander with no knowledge of the WA government setup - I don't trust their Premier. To have us believe there is NO environmental impact is practically impossible.
8:45 WAS THAT BEER????!!!!!!!!! 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅🤣😅😅😅I REALLY LOVED THE WAY SHE HID THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All the way from South Africa!!! How on earth can we destroy such beautiful place on earth.... please save the Kimberly for our next generation 🙏🏼🙏🏼🇿🇦🇿🇦#Kimberly
It's always those heavenly places 😌 how the heck does anything precious and highly commercial has to lie underneath such a place. You never hear a trillion dollar discovery smacked right at the heart of Sahara. All there is are something right in center of the Arctic, Antarctica, the Amazon, the great barrier reef. The world is awfully unbelievable and only greedy businessmen who happen to be extremely influential leaders are to blame.
Mining has already failed Aboriginal people. The people of the land near Tarago NSW were driven from their land to die whilst a copper lead zinc mine ruined that environment for millions of years to come. Queenstown Tasmania. Look around to see the resources you own go overseas for them to pollute you more
Barrow island was pristine too , carbon capture has failed miserably ,it's still in operation despite non compliance of its environment protection policy , there's no such thing as clean gas
To say that offshore natural gas mining will have no impact on the Kimberely is an outright lie. It will defintely have an impact- how big of an impact is yet to be seen. This is a real tricky situation for the locals. To support the mining would create much needed jobs- but at what cost? Its a pandora's box that cannot be closed once it is opened. I would encourage locals to think of alternative ways to make money- ecotourism is a great alternative!
It aldo seems that it is okay for him to exploit the area with fishing charters and building the facilities for people to stay, but not anyone else. Sadly if you want to protect something like that, you protect it from everyone, not just some.
I think the Aboriginal people should draw up a Lease on the land the gas co wants to build on with the terms of payment of rent to the people written in detail. There would also be a termination clause added in the event that the gas plant does have a negative impact on the environment at any time. It will be just like in Africa when the oil companies moved in and make billions while the people benefit nothing from the oil taken from their land.
Yes I agree that it is unspoiled and beautiful but those same people from the cities are quite happy to have all the cons of modern life not understanding or wanting to face reality that they are part of the problem....do I see any of them not driving around, electricity used etc...etc... One cannot enjoy life as we know it without being a responsible as the people who destroy it as we are the one destroying it.....even the Aboriginals living in the outback want their cake and eat it... I know I was there....
Actually, great changes are being made on an individual basis. People do care. Don't let corporations and billionaires pass blame onto those with no say in the 2%ers greediness.
Despite how much technology has been improved, a propose gas plant, is going to alter the beauty and pristine environment. Hope they will improve the life and education of the Kimberley.
What a beautiful place! I don't know what the best answer is, but if industry does end up digging in there, I truly hope the aboriginal people are treating nothing less than fairly.
Haven't oil/gas companies and governments learnt from the amount of environmental catastrophes that have happened and how they have walked away with little to no consequences. Australians put your foot down.
They know they just don't care.... Example is Bayer continuing to say round up is safe for environmental / animal wildlife. These mega corporations don't care.
Government and those who think money is god never look down the slippery slope. It will not stop with this single plant, no matter how ecologically friendly it is. EDIT - But, as usual, money will win out and the aboriginal will get none of it.
Right, they r going to get these ingenious people to be experts on an oil station in the water? No,they will bring in the experts from out of the region.
Funny that this guy had house there, use a boat with an engine , wear clothe and so does the woman....I mean come on as I said let's save it and have the pipeline going to Geraldton or perth but stop the BS about caring...in the end you both care as much as it affect you....
That environment is definitely worth fighting to preserve! Much respect to the righteous souls out there
Having spent weeks in the Kimberley I can tell others who haven't, that it's like being on another planet. It's a truly beautiful place.
Awe, I sure hope it gets protected.....so sad to think it could be plundered. Beautiful
Corporations will say anything, to get what they want. Once you give into them there's no going back.
This video was from 2009 and the project was abandoned in 2013. So 10 years later, what's the situation there now?
Broken promises giving false hope to indigenous people. Leave the Kimberly and the inhabitants alone
Ok I will.
Don’t give up the great fight. You have to be in it to win it. The Kimberly’s look like paradise, so serene n beautiful which is Abroginial’s heritage and pride to keep it that way.
What a privilege to witness this beautiful and amazing place.
What a beautiful place!
60 min AUSTRALIA is the BEST flow TV have to offer ❤☮️🙏
Prayers for the preservation of the Kimberly.

Every Australian should be there from all parts of the country to stop this greedy gas giant from destroying this beautiful place
Finally we can have a opinion on this channel. Another great watch
It's truly a beautiful place 😍
Thank you 60 minutes fo showing this to the world. Save this pristine environment
worth fighting for! agreed
Keep up the good work, you never let your fans down with great entertainment 😎
Glad they fought them!
They call it a mere "pinprick," but it only takes a pinprick to start a giant leak.
When Barnett said " It is a pin prick in a vast landscape," I think he was talking about himself. JS
BIG OIL, BIG GREED. What a beautiful place, I do hope and pray it is protected from such greed.
Instead of destroying what little of the amazing lands we have left, we NEED to invest more in alternative sources. We are intelligent humans and know the destructions are for profit - to feed greed! Keep up the fight!
Just because you can doesn't mean you should! 😢
Hopefully ❤ he can keep the national beauty without ruining this part of world too
PROTECT THIS FROM THE PROSPECTORS AND GREEDY
We humans have destroyed so much for ever
Let’s hope you can save the Kimberley from greedy developers what a beautiful amazing place.
Keep up the good fight 💪 👏 👌
It wont be a 'pinprick'!
Oil companies have time and billions. It's unfortunately a matter of time for them

Now that gas plant is considered … they want to help the people. Is this not zoned as protected as national park?

Am I the only one getting strong Crocodile Dundee vibes with these two???
All the way from South Africa!!! How on earth can we destroy such beautiful place on earth.... please save the Kimberly for our next generation 🙏🏼🙏🏼🇿🇦🇿🇦#Kimberly
Just please don’t let the Chinese get near it.
Yes True and the Government
Gas drilling is the cleanest and mostly clean energy
That's great. Just do it in areas that aren't a special area. It'd be like some greedy corporation wanted to do this in the Amazon

"... Red brick views & broadband speeds of city life" good line.👌
*So glad the project was abandoned and this beautiful part of our country remains untouched by corporate greed*
Save the Kimberly, don’t sacrifice it for gas exports.
Ever since I saw the first Dundee movie I have wanted to go to Australia. Hopefully the Kimberley will be saved from those who want to pillage it.

stop the greedy.
Love 60.min.Australia👏🏻💞🇦🇺💞🥰💞🇦🇺💞👏🏻
I Love Australia 🇦🇺💞💖💞🇦🇺
I’m so glad they did
Thank you so much. Have a good weekend 👍
Think about what the American Indians got for America. Where are they today?
Mic Drop 💯💯
Tara has a point! Those poor Aboriginals have no choice because, in reality, they are not prepared to face the destruction of their beautiful land.

This is a pin prick in vast land. Yeah i bet they said that about the Amazon
The only way you do the least damage by doing no daMAGE TO BEGIN WITH.
Why does man always have to ruin Gods Gorgeous creation, leave the Kimberly alone
11:27-11:33 APPRECIATE YOUR HONESTY 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

What a silly comment!!! You can't compare a few tourists with the giant industry trying to move in, you can't be serious!!
Sadly, the need for oil and gas will be in such desperate demand, no place will be Sacred.
Amazingly! Leave it as it is❤❤❤❤
Don’t let them destroy the land it’s all about money for the mining not about keeping the land beautiful
Who trusts Colin Barnett! 😂
Unspoiled Beauty. 60 minutes
The natural world is not shrinking but growing, even in China and India. More nature today than in the past 300 years.
Im not even australian but that place is worth fighting for 👍👍
PROTEST TO PROTECT NOW
Extractive industries can be managed for minimal impacts. Yet there still are areas which should not be altered with existing technologies.
Beautiful Australia ♥️
It might start out as a pin prick on the environment. It will turn into a meteor crater. I pray this doesn't happen.
I think the Aboriginal people should draw up a Lease on the land the gas co wants to build on with the terms of payment of rent to the people written in detail. The Kimberley ABORIGINALS have Land Rights so why are Foreigners Trespassing on Private Property?
Why even risk it? What if a minor incident would cause permanent damage? The scientist interviewed said if it happened it's be ruined forever.
Beauty of nature. 👍
I loved living there for a year but oh heat wow
12:12 well said Tara!!
Yes I agree that it is unspoiled and beautiful but those same people from the cities are quite happy to have all the cons of modern life not understanding or wanting to face reality that they are part of the problem....do I see any of them not driving around, electricity used etc...etc... Don't use the native population to sway ppl! They are the ones who kept the land and didn't spoil it!

Love this
Once upon a time, well this story will end badly so sad
I'm against the drilling for many reasons.
The presenter looks like princes Diana.
Keep Kimberley just how it is

The guy is totally right "Dinnercooker", they will take it all and they go down the drain.
Where's the audio of this? No sounds.
Woah they let people comment??
It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out when they want to build wind turbines and solar panels in the area.
Wow!
Big Business,Big Government can screw up anything
You can build a lot of bottleshops for a billion dollars
Our people...that word is a scam🥱
The premier is seeing dollar signs all over.
Great place for drilling, mining
How do we get in contact with Peter Tucker to visit. Much love from Kenya 🇰🇪
Isn't it a old news ?
Government and those who think money is god never look down the slippery slope. It will not stop with this single plant, no matter how ecologically friendly it is.

I wander what happen to the kimberley today ? ❤️ Fr. 🇵🇭
Has ALF from home and away started to get into activism?
No impact he says....I say bullsh#t , and this won't help the locals at all.
Funny that this guy had house there, use a boat with an engine , wear clothe and so does the woman....I mean come on as I said let's save it and have the pipeline going to Geraldton or perth but stop the BS about caring...in the end you both care as much as it affect you....
