The Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone situation reminds me of Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett last year in Best Actress. Emma Stone is like Cate Blanchett for Tar with everyone saying this is the performance of her career and Lily Gladstone is Michelle Yeoh for Everything Everywhere all at once. I think that Lily Gladstone is going to win best actress

    • @rebeccag8589
      @rebeccag8589 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

I can definitely see the parallels! But there are some key differences too. Michelle Yeoh is much older and has a much larger body of work than Gladstone. And there was so much love for Everything Everywhere All At Once, it swept. That doesn't seem to be the case for Killers of the Flower Moon. Oppenheimer is more the film to beat overall (although obviously not in this category). There is definitely more support in different categories for Poor Things compared to Killers of the Flower Moon.
Gladstone does have a good narrative though, and she did a great job (I just personally think Stone was better and just given more- Gladstone more of a supporting role), critics love Gladstone, and this seems to be the only place Killers of the Flower Moon will get something, and I can understand wanting to give it something.

Lily Gladstone will win, not because of the merit of the performance, but because of the historic nature of the win. Emma Stone clearly gave the better performance by far but will probably not win due to the color of her skin.

Here's an idea moving forward. In order to allow the best performances to win, not just those being pushed for virtue signaling or other reasons, there should also be a category based on strongest narrative. Andra Day's performance from The United States vs. Billie Holiday did get enough buzz a few years ago to pick up a Golden Globe, but nothing further - and her story (as with the Billie Holiday story) is worthy of being told in a way that KTOFM is getting exposure. Last season's push by small but numerous precursors to bring Michelle Yeoh into the forefront appears to have prompted the Lily Gladstone "campaign" - both good performances that were not, however, singularly responsible for the greatness of their films like Blanchette and Stone in Tar and Poor Things, respectively. Campaigning, even going back to Weinstein's time, has put a bad taste in many people's mouths; this has been cited as a reason why there is less trust in the process of picking a winner and perhaps a contributor to less attention and ratings. Adding a narrative category would allow for respect to return, while award winners from all backgrounds can also win. Just my two cents.

    • @minavamp2811
      @minavamp2811 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

yes they both have the narrative to drive, yeoh being first asian to win best actress, and gladstone being first indigenous to win an oscar of any kind. both stone and blanchette had already won an oscar . however, gladstone has been sweeping the critic awards that yeoh didn't. my feeling is that gladstone will sweep critic choice, bafta, sag, and oscar. this year all the 4 acting categories are so much more predictable than last year which were the nail biter for actor, actress, and supporting actress down to the oscar.

CCA are more of a joke. Most voters don't even watch the nominated movies. Grace Randolph did a heart breaking demonstration by streaming the voting process. They vote in categories where they haven't seen any movies, they vote for trailers, they vote to shape the future of the industry... Rarely the vote is legit based on merit.
I follow all movie awards, love them, but for the CCA - boycott! As if it makes any difference 😔

Right because everyone thought Angela Bassett had this in the bag after winning the Globe and CC. No one was willing to accept JLC, was gonna win. I knew she was winning before globes happened and when she won SAG, EVERYONE dismissed it as a fluke. Until she sweeps SAG and bafta the Oscar is not hers. Monique won SAG and bafta, so u cannot compare Da'Vine Joy Randolph to Mo'Nique until she wins BOTH precursors

I’m really hoping to see Oppenheimer win big throughout award season. I know that Golden Globes aren’t always the best at showing who will win the Academy Award in the end, at least not like they used to, but the fact it won 5 of the 8 nominations at the Golden Globes as well as how well Oppenheimer has been received by critics definitely gives me hope the film will do well, especially for Nolan, RDJ and the score. I’m hoping Murphy will get more major Best Actor awards, but Bradley Cooper is there and likely will be throughout the entire season. Thanks for the video Brian, hope you’re doing well. Take care!

im pretty sure one acting category, i believe supporting actor, will be a tie
many always complain about Golden Globes wanting stars on their ceremony, but Critics Choice is the same. they always do the tie to have big famous people onstage (IE Lady Gaga/Glenn Close) and what better would be that Gosling and RDJ, which is probably the most competitive category
Lily and Da'Vine have won pretty much all the awards, they have the support and its a big movie, people root for them. i think Cillian has also won too much to not win; so the one category thats more divided is sup actor, and they will probably split it

I guess live-action films centering on girls' coming of age don't get to be iconic, however good they are. (How many people have heard of The World of Henry Orient?)
Where development of and interest in female characters are concerned, Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan are polar opposites. Nolan will win this year; that's close to a certainty. But Gerwig's time will come, and I hope I'll be there to see it.

Hear me out, I think there is pretty strong evidence against Lily Gladstone winning Best Actress at Critics Choice. This mimics, almost exactly, last year’s Actress race.
If last year, Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett were pretty much tied for critics wins and the Critics Choice absolutely loved Everything Everywhere and still didn’t give the award to the actress who had the stronger narrative - both with the representational and star power factors. Then, why am I to believe that this year they’ll give it Gladstone for a performance that has failed to get much traction with film goers, in a film less loved, who might be the only award the film gets, that doesn’t have that strong of a narrative and is still nearly tied with Emma Stone’s critics wins?
Just doesn’t seem to work for me. I think an acting and screenplay win for Poor Things seems quite logical, and a good package for a phenomenal film!
    What do you think?

    • @jurney3478
      @jurney3478 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    • @rafaelsolimene5350
      @rafaelsolimene5350 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

@@jurney3478I never said she doesn’t have a narrative, I said she has a WEAKER narrative than the one of Michelle Yeoh last year. That is true, since Michelle Yeoh had three qualities to her campaign. Number 1: representational - first Asian best actress winner. Number 2: resonance with the public. Number 3: overdue factor - a person who’s been doing great work is finally being recognized.
Lily Gladstone, great as she is, only has one of those atributes working in her favour - the representational one. She’s very young, so it rules out the overdue factor. And, sadly, her work isn’t being talked about as much as Yeoh’s last year.
And yet, with all of Yeoh’s qualities, she still lost Critics Choice to Blanchett. So why predict Gladstone if she has a weaker narrative in a film which isn’t stirring that much conversation with audiences? Though you are right Stone doesn’t have a narrative, neither did Blanchett, but that didn’t stop her from winning, did it?

It happens many times in critics choice awards that actress who wins golden globe for motion picture drama, also wins critics choice for best actress. So i think lily gladstone will win critics choice awards. But cant predict anything because exception is reese witherspoon who won golden globe comedy musical and critics choice for walk the line.

Someone pointed out that Barbie’s CC nominations are sort of padded by categories that Oppenheimer isn’t eligible for like Best Song, Young Performer, Best Comedy etc
In terms of major award noms it’s actually pretty even with Oppenheimer. I personally found Barbie to be extremely overrated so outside of the technical categories I’m hoping it doesn’t win too much

    Orginal screenplay:
    The holdovers✔
I think if they give best supporting actross and best actor to cast of the holdovers.
    Must give the holdovers...best screenplay.
Becase that mean the film big contender...so they must give it chance in seasion to contunue combation.
Past live... right screenplay...but the story old fashion.
    May december..great story..bad screenplay.
    Barbi..feminst story.
    Air..they dont make succsus.
    Maystroa..bad story and bad screenplay.✖✖✖
I conceder maystro the badest screenplay..in all seasion..the film have no story.
    Best supporting actross:
    Devine joy randlof✔
    Her acting so right.
She supporting but her role with parsional story.
And she act drama in comedy film.
    And het coustume so righ.
    +
    Dneail brocks✔... she good.
    She in comption with her.
    In color purple.
    Emely blant...
Good acting but small short role..if she win will be surprise.
    But i prefer to watch
Davine joy randolf or daneal brocks win... becase they make good acting and the role have story.
When emely she dont show us story in her role.
    Jullian role..
    Nothing new in her performance.
And she act in bad screenplay...and they write her role wrong..she must be leading role...and she act it...but they let her support when all the story about her.
Sooo wrong...they make nattaly leading role...she ask about het story..dont show us.
    The film combletly wrong.
    Jodi foster...
    Good acting...but funny.
If she was in film or not nothing will be defrent.
Davine ✔and brocks✔ more important role.
    Best actor:
    Between ( pual jiammatii)✔ and ( colin marphy ) ✔
They win golden globe...for comedy and drama.
And i think they face each others..in critics.
That will make us know bow will win when they mix it in same category.
    Who will win.
    Leanardo de caprioo
    Was funnh in tragedy film.
So he dont be drama actor and not be comedy actor.
    So he dont get careness.
    Bradly cooper:
    Bad..bad..bad..✖✖✖
    Whre the story...
    He lost in role
Bacase he all film dont find story to act it...he make good make up and fisical change...and he try to make effort in performance...but useless with weak role.
If he win will be suprise.
    But maybe win.
    Best supporting actor:
    Robert downy j✔✔✔
    And
    Charles milton ✔
    Best actross:
    Lilly gladston✔...and emma stone✔
They win golden globe..in comedy and drama.
So they will mix it in same category.
What i like it in lilly gladsone..
She only one make right performance in film
She make tragedy acting..in tragedy acting.
The actor and best supporting actor and diroction.
Make comedy style...they try to be funny in acting and picture...that wrong..so they ignor them.
    Emma stone
    She leading role...
    More gladstone..
    Gladstone look like supporting.
But gladston role more important than emma...
Becase she make real biopic historical story.
    So gladston ✔
    Carry moligan...
    Same bradly cooper
    She dont get role.
She just try to make performance to make film have something.
    No role..no story.✖
Past live and anatomy of fall...
No surprise if one if they win
Past live great acting..but story from black and white.
    Anatomy of all...
The story same crime programe...but with weak resion to crime.
    Barbi...just funny for teenger.
    No sense she win.
    Best diroctor
    Christover in oppinhimer✔
And alxander nollan in the holdover✔
Becase the diroctir of oppnhimer so searies.
    And the holdovers ✔✔✔diroctor
Show us the place naturaly and so honest...and he mix drama with comedy in good way and he direct the performance so right.
    The killer of flower moon
Bad color and so fake places and so bad embody historical places...and the diroctor make film light...that wrong.
    Maystroa
    I like diroctor
    He make film so classic.
    But the story...
Make diroction...foucus just about in beaty...of places snd make up...and face and fashion of this era.
Barbi...funny and bad color and same old diroction..they use the tiqnical wrong.
    Poor thing...
    Fantazy fake diroction.
When watch the film...they use computer in it.
    The story and acting better.
    Best picture
